Re: Yakuza series

Weirdest thing here: I tried the demo for Kiwami 2, and was thinking I was going to be ridiculously overcome with nostalgia and ear-to-ear grins... but it just didn't really happen. Seeing everything in the newest engine just doesn't really do it for me like I thought it would. Turns out the origin...

Re: "My money!"

In the beginning of Shenmue II, did anyone else spend 499 yen out of 500 on buying up figurines before leaving the starting area? It's not yen, is it? Been a while since I played, but I'm pretty sure he'd converted his money to HK dollars at the beginning of the game. Also when I read the title for...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts (Read OP Before Posting)

Thanks for the recommendations, and keep them coming Probably one of the most interesting and unique games I've played this gen is a little sleeper called Echo. It's stealth, and I'm not sure how you feel about that, but the mechanics are a good deal more individual than the genre usually aims for....

Re: DC Cinematic Universe

Complaining that they look by-the-numbers is at least a little funny, since these are essentially based on some of the old comics that created the numbers to begin with. I mean, how do you even do an Aquaman movie that looks anything other than how this looks? If anything, it just looks about as ri...

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe

For me personally, Civil War was exactly what turned me off completely from Marvel comics back in the day, and I haven't bothered reading any since (it all sounds pretty shitty nowadays anyway). Just such an obvious shock-value ploy all around, from making Tony Stark the "bad guy" so to s...

Re: Official Gaming Music Topic

Such a Chrono Cross vibe off of this one. Which actually might be more than coincidence; while I was looking for it, I stumbled across a concept video from before the devs had actually started the game, and it was set to the opening music from Chrono Cross. Not sure if it was the devs who put it th...

Re: Shenmue 3: It's not too late to fund! (Video)

It's possible that urging people to donate more might work a little better if you actually explain yourself in text. I make it a point not to click on random videos myself. And a forum is a place for conversation anyway, not just randomly dumping your videos and expecting anyone to listen. Literall...

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe

So Ant Man and The Wasp was pretty damn great. Miles better than the first (which was good to begin with). It obviously isn't really of the same scale that some of the Marvel flicks are, but it's a good story, a proper followup to Ant Man's appearance in Civil War (god, that feels so long ago now),...

Re: Fun With Screenshots (post yours)

So the steam version of Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is actually a bit of a remastered HD version. Got it months ago, and at first it felt like just a port of the old game but with widescreen support. Nothing particularly special. But the devs kept working with it and patching it, and as it is now.....

Re: Random Shenmue HD Thoughts

Anyone who's struggling with why expanding the cutscenes from 4:3 would be so difficult should try playing with the widescreen settings in an emulated version of Shenmue for additional context. When something isn't "on-screen" during gameplay, the game isn't fully rendering it for what I ...

Re: What Song Are You Listening To Now?

I just ordered a book of Dick Dale guitar tabs, and I'm pretty sure this is in it. Always been one of my favorite tracks from him. Not like I'll be able to learn the whole thing out of a book, but it'll be fun to mess around with some of the basic licks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt0NCpSwPHY

Re: Japanese Music

So ever since I found this band (a few posts above), I've been hoping to see something of them live; their recorded sound is so thoroughly mixed and mastered that I wondered if they could actually make it sound anything like that at a show. They put up a couple live videos on their channel the othe...

Re: Yakuza series

Oh, pft, for some reason I completely forgot the guy in the game actually did have a mole. Thought I looked it up to re-check, but I guess I missed it some how. But yeah, would have been cool to see some hint of a shared world, but strangely the Japanese seem less inclined toward that stuff than we...

Re: Yakuza series

BTW, any less obvious Shenmue references in Yakuza 0? I've only seen the "You Game" arcade signs on Tahei Blvd.. I swear there's an homage to Yu Suzuki in one of Majima's sub stories. He resembles the leader of a cult Majima has to infiltrate. See if you agree when you get to it.. Eeeehhh...

Re: 100 GB! S3 is not going to be small

Uh, yeah, it's not gonna be that big. Compression of all files into the final game package is one of the very last things that happens in the development process. They haven't done it yet, so that 100gb figure is completely tentative. I know that's already been said, but it feels like everyone is s...
