Shenmue Poll (sponsor or not sponsor)

Hi

i made a poll so people can give their opinion, but well just open the link and you will understand i think
(please share the link on whatever Shenmue or video games related site/forum you go, i cant subscribe to all of them)

http://strawpoll.me/4684057
(the main idea being raising more funds)

http://poucopixel.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/RyoCoke.jpg

i was just thinking about a few sponsor (with high level selection)
so we could see Hyundai, Pepsi, Nutella, etc...

if i get enough vote i will transmit them to Shibuya Productions (company supporting Yu Suzuki and in direct contact with him)

i just want to get the 10 millions $ so dont hate me for that...

Re: No Japan in Shenmue 3, Confirmed.

Storywise it makes sense- Ryo is on a mission to avenge his father so he's not heading back to Japan until he's caught up to LAN Di..... And he's obviously getting caught up in a bigger purpose with Shenhua so Japan would only be a valid destination in the last 1/2 chapters which S3 isn't covering as is pretty clear after this Q & A

Re: Wasting money on smaller languages

I seriously think they should drop those German, French, Spanish and Italian subtitles from the game.

And while we're at it, drop the English subtitles too.

Too much of a waste. It should all go to game development. We'll all have to buy our own Japanese translation books or software to trek through it.

Re: Wasting money on smaller languages

I seriously think they should drop those German, French, Spanish and Italian subtitles from the game. Why would we waste our money on those small language translations

Do you realize, that Spanish for example, is spoken by more people than english? Why alienate a huge portion of potential targets?

Also your post is so selfish...

As for native speakers, yes, Spanish has more. As for people having a good command of the language and therefor being able to play a video game in it, no. English is much bigger.

Then again, how is my post selfish? I don't get it. I want them to kick out my own language as well. :)
Because you don't bother to consider those who don't speak English. Driving out your own language doesn't mean much when you speak the language it will be released in anyway.

Shenmue II vs Shenmue III

I made a comparison video with the Shenmue III Kickstarter trailer and the original river crossing scene from Shenmue II side by side. The idea to this sprung up as soon as I saw the trailer the first time. Thought it would be interesting to look at the differences. They are of course pretty dramatic.

I had to adjust the scene from Shenmue II quite a bit to get the two to run together as well as possible. Two short scenes had to be slowed down to a crawl, please excuse the framerate there.

Re: Lets remake the Kickstarter video

Omg. I had to sign up for this alone. I've been a long time lurker (and I mean very long time). Jibby's Preview 2 is exceptional.

I feel if it could be edited up with at least the video footage of Suzuki giving the main sentences describing his return to the game and how many have asked for it for so long. After that (if Jibby is alright with it) it should be mass sent to Suzuki san's Twitter feed so that he can be allowed to use it on the mainpage of the Kickstarter. It's much much better than the one they have. Huge thanks to Jibby for this awesome trailer.

Re: Shenmue I and II translated into Spanish

We've done it.

The Shenmue II fantranslation patches are now available for download, both on Dreamcast and XBOX, with a ton of decensoring and dubbing extras. I've also did a massive update to the Shenmue I translation, removing most of the limits that the lack of knowledge imposed on the Notebook and other areas.

Make no mistake guys, i'm extremely happy all this happened, and all things considered i would rate it a big success if we finish at 5millions.

I just want the best for the only shot we have, and seeing it in the hands of complete amateurs makes me furious.

Created some hi-res Shenmue logo PNGs for general use.

Hey, I was going to do some fan-graphic design but couldn't find any high res PNGs on a quick Google search. I probably didn't look very hard though tbh. So if there are already tons of similar logos out there, then fair enough, never mind. :)

Either way, I ended up making my own. They're not perfect but if you scale them down to normal web-sizes they should look ok.

I'm posting them here so people can be free to use a high-res logo however they wish. In youtube banners, twitch overlays, facebook, twitter etc.

And here's a fanart boxart I did for good measure showing all graphics together. Shows how they look scaled down.

Edit: If anyone is looking for something specific let me know in the replies. Like if you want a twitch banner at A x B dimensions with image C and the logo in the middle etc.

I made this as a christmas present for a friend, and there's lots of sega fans here so I suppose I'll include it here. Feel free to use it, or get a print of it etc. if you so wish.

Re: About the character design

I really hope so, as well, and I'm surprised they didn't just use those models for the trailer. Why make a whole new one from scratch if it looks vastly inferior? Even in the Sega Racing game, I was surprised that they had a Ryo that looks exactly like the orginal Ryo, only more detailed.

I'm not talking about the graphics, either- people always say, "don't worry, the graphics will get better because everything is really early"...Really, nobody is talking about the graphic quality. The graphics are fine! The problem is that the character's faces look like completely different people.

I don't care if it has Dreamcast graphics, PS3 graphics, PS4 graphics! But I DO care that the characters look the way they're supposed to! I don't want to continue the story if, the whole time, I'm feeling like I'm playing as different characters that happen to be cosplaying as Ryo and ShenHua.

People need to realize that character designs are important here, because it's one of the things that'll make you feel like you're really continuing the same story that you've been playing. What if, in the Star Wars movies, they had re-cast everybody in Episode 6 as different actors? In effect, it would still continue the story, and maybe still be good, but it wouldn't feel like you're watching a continuation of the same story.
All I'm saying is, characters need to look like they're supposed to.

Re: About the character design

its probably quicker to start again from scratch than trying to re-use old assests.
Sure. But that's no excuse for the characters to look like different people. If they can't use the models as they are, they should still use them as reference to build the new model's faces and make them look exactly like the way they did before, only nicer looking (ie, better skin textures, more polygons and whatnot, but still the same facial features as before).

We know what rapport system is (old YS interview)

I was thinking of an old YS interview and yeah, we know what rapport is.

He talks about it here:

JM: I play games to do things I can't do in real life. Do you think games have become too real? If you were to do Shenmue 3, for example, would you take the same approach and make it super realistic, or would you take a different approach?

YS: The concept for Shenmue 3 already exists, so... [Laughs] The world of Shenmue 1 and 2 expanded outward. So, for example, in the original games, of all the data used for dialogue in the game, the main characters' dialogue was about 20%. The remaining 80% was dialogue by characters other than the two main characters. But Shenmue 3 doesn't expand outward, but inward. A lot of the dialogue is used for the main character and especially dialogue with Shenhua. They talk about a lot of different, deeper things. For example, and I can't say too much, but here's an example.

This is not actually in the game, but as an example to give you an idea of what I mean by deeper dialogue, when Shenhua and Ryo are at home, Shenhua will ask Ryo if he would like to drink tea or coffee and the player will select one or the other. Or, Shenhua will ask Ryo a hypothetical question like: "There are four animals; a monkey, cat, dog and bird. You are crossing the river but you need to leave one behind. Which one will you leave behind?" And the player has to choose one. Shenhua will ask lots and lots of questions like these and the answers will get stored in the game and affect the outcome of the player's relationship with other characters. It's like a personality test. For example, the person who leaves behind the monkey is the type of person who leaves their wife.

TH: That's scary. [Laughs]

JM: So it's more organic, and very contextual. Personally, I would leave the bird behind. The bird can fly across the river.

YS: It's very deep. I think it will be very interesting if it happens.

Re: How much will you sacrifice to get Shenmue 3 to $10,000

Don't worry about the Kickstarter man. You need to take care if yourself first. There's no shame at all with dropping some of your pledge. Donate what your wallet says first, then your heart will be good with that too. I fully expect them to open PayPal after the Kickstarter. So you'll always be able to contribute.

Also...you just said these words: "Shenmue 3 could not have been announced at a worse time." Stop and think about that. Man, we're freaking getting Shenmue 3!!! Don't get stressed, everything's going to be fine.

Re: Shenmue I and II translated into Spanish

This is awesome. The work must have been huge and the love for Shenmue is wondeful.

The language used is spanish from Spain. But maybe i haven't read enough, then i would like to ask something:

Does the translation for the entire game contains words only used in Spain? Or, it's adapted to a "neutral" spanish? I'm from Mexico, so, the language as you already know, is a little... different.

Thanks in advance. And again, it's a great piece of work you've made!! Congratulations!
The translation is for Castilian Spanish (For Spain). We've used expressions from Spain, yes. Though you might wanna see Jiménez García. That fellow was mexicanized.

And just to make it clear, we've only dubbed three scenes in Shenmue II and two in Shenmue I.
- Shenmue I has the prologue scene and the ending (Departure) dubbed into Castilian and Latin American Spanish.
- Shenmue II has the prologue scene dubbed in Castilian and Latin American Spanish, the Digest Movie and Huang's tape dubbed to Castilian Spanish. Subtitles are provided for those who want to disable the dubs.

Walk above Sakuragaoka glitch

This easy to perform glitch allows you to walk high above the streets in Sakuragaoka.
You'll simply need to position Ryo near the shown wall with his feet at two different heights and wait for the nightfall.

This was originally discovered by someone else but I made a video myself anyway just to show more of the area with better quality then the original did.

Re: Updated Ryo Model

Why are people refering to this as a new model? It's obviously a photoshopped version of the same model from the kickstarter video. They probaby felt they had to show something because of impatient fans pestering them with questions about how terrible Ryo (and Shenhua IMO) looks in the kickstarter video. Now I agree with this, but I don't think it should be a concern since there is no way that this is how the actual models will look. And no they don't need a clay model to get the right look, they just have to look at some pictures / old 3d-models and put some work into it, which they didn´t do with the kickstarter models.

Message From Lisle Wilkerson

We've been communicating with Lisle Wilkerson over the announcement of Shenmue III and she's just as happy as all of us that it is going to become a reality. Below is a personal message from her to all of the fans.

“Hey Shenmue fans!!! It’s Lisle Wilkerson, the English voice actor for Xiuying Hong, Joy, and Yuan from Shenmue II.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for all your undying support over the years! I have always loved running into Shenmue fans at the cons I go to around the world.

Re: I am a bit confused why the Ryo model looks so bad

If the development hasn't started yet, why they waste time redoing characters when they can recycle them, that's the point.

To show that this will look like a modern game ? And that probably would attract more people ?
But the character models don't look modern and they just look bad to the fans.

So, I am not seeing a very clear or coherrent answer half the time.

I do appreciate some of you actually discussing this and not giving a snide silly remark that makes no discussion like a few have.

I also said 3 times that I understand this is not what the final models will look like and this is just what they threw together.

The question was always why did they use these and not their high target scans that look quite good.

And to your point, if you did that? the models look even worse. I didn't do that as it seemed too easy to see how bad they look, but since you brought it up. We don't even need to see ps4 models to see how bad they look. PS3 is good enough.

who are the guys behind sh2 working with now, wish they could get these guys on the team

http://planetagracza.pl/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/the-order-1886.jpg For those who didn't play it (yes it's a bit bad) but it is a game that truly impresses more than any other in visuals in spots.

If they are trying to make them look modern then they failed. I don't think they were aiming for that, just trying to show they are working perhaps?

And finally to be fair this is also from a game that had barely started production

http://cdn.bleedingcool.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/9c22277147d60de3d15418ba31c520a4-600x338.png

Now I hope we can be friendly, I know what is going on here "final" versus "perhaps" thrown together character models. But, they do have a long way to go. They are semi ps2 models they have right now ..

Let's see how it looks next year when the game is in development and they aren't worried about this KS and things.
