I prefer your trailer theory.

The shot is too tight on the house to be a nightfall scene on that specific place but why not?

Re: Kickstarter Update #65: Dev room update

^ Besides the polished aspect of the village, that's the contrast quality that really amazes me although most of the credit highly goes to Epic. Shenmue on Dreamcast (especially Shenmue 1) had a remarkable contrast also so it's no surprise there's a continuation here.

Re: Shenmue - 360º Panoramas

Hi,

I installed LiveViewRift but my Rift doesn't recognize it. Your links doesn't seem compatible either as there is a black screen in the VR emulation window.

Webvr.info instructions didn't work so I had to download "WebVR Plus" to make your Corfu panorama working on Nightly Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mozilla-webvr-enabler/
The panorama is perfectly smooth.

Re: what resolution will you play shenmue 3

I highly recommend the Iiyama Prolite X4071UHSU monitor to Shenmue fans:
39.5", low input lag, 4K, quality MVA display, 8 bits+FRC and blue light reducer for only €509 in Amazon France while Dell sells the same size for €1000, Philips €700 and Wasabi $600. Truly a bargain.

Re: Missing chapters in Saturn version?

Last chapter was actually in the Saturn version with Ryo using the power of the mirrors to time travel into the future as he did to enter the Shenhua's city of Qing dynasty into the past. but Yu then rewrote completely this version. You can watch the sample here from the NHK archives:

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

The morphing is likely just a stylized effect. Morphing was pretty fashioned at the time. Moreover, even a bird face could have been used onto the Ryo's one then the morphing would have still worked.

Ryo CGI on Shenmue posters is the real target render. Even the Shenmue Online artists did their best to match it for their cinematic. That's the Ryo the fans want, and YSnet obviously knows. Of course, they have the freedom to change slightly his facial features to fit their emotion expression purposes and keep themselves below the technical constrains.

Despite the Centrale's mosaic, the problem is still there. Our model is closer to a realistic Street Fighter 5 than a truly sequel of Shenmue II.

Interestingly, Shenmue I & II was sometimes an odd mix of highly realistic and slightly-manga characters. The most radical design was the bookstore girl in Shenmue II like if they literally snapped a woman face and paste it on a 3D model.

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

How do we know this character was designed by Miyawaki? Not saying it wasn't but the drawings don't look like his style at all.

Indeed, Amir (who had talks with some Shenmue III devs) said that several charadesigners are working on the project, I believe he meant 2d charadesigners. Althought that doesn't alter the initial argument.

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

People who aren't satisfied with the model, can you elaborate in detail why? Most of the posts I've read were "It doesn't feel like Shenmue" or "It's too cartoony"... I'm trying to understand why people would think so, and the only thing I can see is the skin shader being a little plasticky... That's pretty much it. And that is something that can easily be improved.

The face, proportions, and clothing are fine. The overall design is 100% the Shenmue I know and love. They translated the design from concept art to 3D model incredibly well. He is supposed to be this weird, overly muscular character with a creepy smile, I can't imagine him looking better than he already does in 3D. This bodes well for the rest of the characters, I say.

People already made some good explanation in the previous pages. Someone said the issue is that the model was the biggest character he's ever seen in Shenmue. I think he's not so far from the truth.

http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/shenmue/images/6/6b/Renyan.png/revision/latest?cb=20160301085900

Don't you find these characters thinner than the new model? Me, yes and it's disturbing because these guys are supposed to be literal beasts in Shenmue II !

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

Please people, have faith. Realise that a screenshot from the development environment will look completely different from the compiled game, remember that we don't know where or when this character will be introduced, remember that the game is still in early development, but most importantly remember that Shenmue III is REAL!

I personally match all the points, I still think Shenmue 3 will be a great game, I watch and rewatch the E3 reactions pretty regularly just for pleasure and all the stuff but it is not contradictory with noticing points that we think odd.

The model itself was not updated since January so its general aesthetic is likely to be definitive. If it's not the time to judge (not the game, but only parts), so I think we can close the forum until the demo. Peter will probably appear to say, we're here to support the game, the team, to be literal fans. If you really want to help Suzuki, so follow Himuro's initiative, keep donating, address motivating words to YS Net, defend the project from the disinformation on the web or whatever.
You will likely think that my statement is unfair, impolite or harsh, that you're already doing all this stuff but you're close to doing the same thing with people who disagree with the prevailing opinion. So I don't see where the Dojo or members attitude has something to do with this. Calling toxic, bullshit or disgraceful a substantial number of posts in this thread is a very enigmatic statement for me.

Re: Why is Shenmue I better than Shenmue II

Those who feel nothing special regarding Shenmue II, how can you be hard-hyped by Shenmue III?

I mean, contrast between Chinese and Japanese cultures is as wide as the distance between present and the time we'll get our Shenmue III trailer. Since the saga is known to be mainly a journey in China, we are likely to never feel Shenmue I vibes again.

Re: YSNET officially announce the delay of Shenmue 3.

Best news since the Advanced Free Battle announcement.

I feel a bit disappointed for Biscay and the other related actors though. The delay seemed to be inevitable, I hope their trust has not been abused by the project ambition.

You always manage to find something negative, don't you? :P

Do you think Cédric would rather have a rushed, half-baked game which may sell poorly instead of a polished, well crafted Shenmue 3 with better chances of selling well? (especially if Shenmue HD comes out by the end of the year)

I prefer the expression "considering all the possibilities", even the hard ones. :)

Trust will be important for Suzuki's next projects (including Shenmue 4) and delay is a joker that should not been used twice. Announcing the game for 2018 from the very beginning would have been preferable for everyone, especially since Yu was already complaining about his lack of time last year. But I believe they had their reasons.

I remember an interview of Biscay where he was asked about the potential Yu's over-ambition regarding the budget. He's aware that giving Yu too much freedom is something not to do. But at the moment, I do think like you that everything's good. Let's turn our full attention on Shenmue remasters!

Sorry but it's another communication fail in the long history of Shenmue III campaign fails. And it's not a question about pessimism as I can read above.
The CM job is to explain more what you supposedly need to anticipate any fog, even the foolish ones. I don't know why the team just didn't put a few-words reminder about the business part. It's easy to criticize people to forget the previous update when you are a Shenmue over-obsessed fan. The only real tools here are the media.

A German publisher, a Monegasque co-funder of a game mainly fanned by people from the West, developed by a team in Japan with likely many foreign outsourcing studios that will try together to replicate authentic China and insert some nostalgia for the fans into an universe which already felt nostalgia in 1999. In a game like Shenmue, stare makes 80% of a character identity. So I would respond the eyes. They looks too manga for me and that destroys everything the character he was.

The proportion head/body seems not ideal as well but I'm still not sure.

But if I have to admit a point, we're closer to something very solid indeed.

Re: New Screens + Note From Yu via Playstation Blog

Sega decided to make Shenmue to face Final Fantasy with an avant-garde RPG form. You hardly give a man +40 million budget for the sake of a down-to-earth revenge story. So the Chi part was likely to be the core of the story at same point.

There's plenty of literature who introduces the supernatural with proper subtlety. Chi seems to be a complex concept with solid and fascinating background. I'm sure Yu has in mind good ideas drawn from his highest passion for Chinese culture while the gameplay keeps the same base up.

All things considered, I concede that the sword part had some weirdos but I remember having no big deal at the time. Maybe we'll get some rational explanation further in the story.
