Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

Pix'n'love managed to get the authorization from Sega to make a wonderful official Dreamcast book. Only available in French. And damnly expensive (80 euros for the Shenmue or Sonic special edition).

Yu Suzuki Interview: Champion Boxing, Shenmue [ENG]

I've posted up a translation of an interview with Yu Suzuki that was published in January by Famitsu.com to commemorate the release of a new games collection by Sega that has ties to some of his old arcade hits.

In it, Suzuki gives his feelings towards Champion Boxing, and also talks briefly about Shenmue III, revealing how the Dreamcast console is playing its part in the development.

Re: December 2017 is fastly approaching!

Speaking of delays, I have just read in Twitter some user asking Cedric if Shenmue 3 is still set for release in december and he confirmed it again.

Forklift Loop Glitch Explained

I've wanted to make this topic for a while, because every now and then, I've noticed some people have come across this particular issue, and did not know what the problem was, or how to fix this glitch. I hope that this topic helps anyone who gets stuck doing the same forklift route every day, so that any players with this issue can correct their route and continue the game as intended. On the flip side, this can also explain how the glitch works for people who would like to utilize it, for whatever reason.

When you get to the part of the game where Ryo gets the forklift job, there is one day of job training, and five official days of actual forklift work. On the second official day, you are tasked with taking the crates that are near the Harbor Lounge over to Warehouse #3. What is supposed to happen is that you get a cutscene sometime after lunch, while working. The problem is, this is the one day where you can completely bypass where the cutscene trigger was placed, causing you to have to repeat the same route the next day. This is the reason for why some players are stuck doing the same thing every day, with no progress in regards to the story mode. Below is a map explaining how the route is supposed to work;

https://gyazo.com/8dbbc7bc050c9fad063b618c7890af54.png

As you can see here, the trigger for the cutscene is between warehouses #4 and #5. If you go around the corner near warehouse #1, you miss the cutscene, and therefore have to do the same route the next day. This is where the forklift loop comes from. On all the other days, the cutscene trigger is in a spot that can't really be bypassed, because it's usually placed at a chokepoint where the player can't skip it. On this day, they placed the cutscene trigger at an avoidable location, presumably as a design oversight. As a result some players, few as they may be, are stuck on this day without knowing exactly why.

Hopefully, this helps explain it for anyone who is stuck, or will be stuck at this part sometime in the future. If you did it right, you should trigger a cutscene where the sailors start harassing you again, which results in you having a fight in warehouse #3.

If on the other hand, you actually want to use this glitch for whatever reason (maybe to earn more money), then you know how to bypass the cutscene trigger, so that you can pause progress on the story.

I hope this topic helps either way.

Update 2! Video 2 on The Harbor!
https://youtu.be/6sMqic_P02g
Hi Everyone.

I recently went to Japan for vacation/business and decided to take a trip to Yokosuka for some research.

Big thanks to Switch for showing me around :D

We took many photos of The Harbor and Dobuita Street which you can find below! We took lots of video footage too which will be uploaded at a later time to my Youtube channel.

It is amazing that even in 2017, Shenmue still is an accurate representation of Dobuita Street!

If you want to travel to Dobuita, feel free to PM me any questions you may have!

We ran into another Shenmue Fan who made a blog out of our visit here:
https://oninokokoro.wordpress.com/2017/04/04/%e6%a8%aa%e9%a0%88%e8%b3%80%e5%b8%82%e3%81%ae%e3%80%8c%e3%81%a9%e3%81%b6%e6%9d%bf%e9%80%9a%e3%82%8a%e3%80%8dyokosuka-citys-dobuita-street-%e7%a5%9e%e5%a5%88%e5%b7%9d/

I spoiler tagged each section of photos since there are 90+ photos in total!

Enjoy!

Re: Genesis games in Shenmue 3?

Hello.. This is a Picture for the Dreamcast Game 'Yu Suzuki Game Works'

https://www.video-games-museum.com/en/screenshots/Dreamcast/2/36332-menu-Yu-Suzuki-Game-Works-Vol.-1.png

I have looked extensively at all the game files of Shenmue and Shenmue 2 and comparied them to Yu Game works. This game was released shortly after Shenmue 2, but the Emulation files for;
Space Harrier: Shenmue1
Hang On: Shenmue 1
After Burner: Shenmue 2
OutRun: Shenmue 2
are EXACTLY THE SAME FILES !.. Which logically means that Power Drift ' should' be in Shenmue 3
(But since it will be created in Unreal Engine theres no reason that all of the games shouldnt be in Shenmue3)

There is clear evidence that After Burner was originally planned for Shenmue 1, and I suspect with a deeper understanding of the Shenmue 'FirstRead.bin' file that it 'might' be possible to switch one of the other Arcade games with PowerDrift to work ingame BUT each game has its own specific emulation and its certainly not a copy and paste job to play any megadrive/genesis game.

The only games that would be featured in Shenmue3 will be the ones Yu created and has total licence of, which I suspect doesnt include Virtua Fighter

Tekken dev requests guest fighter ideas - let's give 'em one

Tekken's Harada has recently asked on Twitter for guest character suggestions - likely as baseline research into Tekken 7 DLC.

https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/853769649447608320

We all know about Harada's reverence for Shenmue and Yu Suzuki thanks to that amazing interview Switch graciously translated for us all on his blog, so a swell in suggestions for Ryo being a guest character in Tekken is likely to be noticed and taken seriously.

In regards to the fighting style differences between Tekken and the Virtua Fighter-lite system Shenmue uses, the Tekken team appear to have been very faithful with mixing in the gameplay style of Street Fighter when they included Akuma into baseline Tekken 7, and hopefully they'll do the same again with Ryo and have him control quite like he should if he is included.

WHY THIS MATTERS IF YOU DON'T LIKE TEKKEN/WANT RYO IN TEKKEN

It raises the profile of the series and its characters, which is nothing but beneficial to Shenmue III or future instalments. I'm not much of a Tekken person either, but I see this as an opportunity.

Shenmue fans are great at mobilising and making our voices heard, so why not throw our weight behind this to grab Harada's attention?

Sega E3 Product Categories

Probably nothing to go crazy over, but was checking out Sega's E3 page on the E3 website, and they appear to be entered into 5 categories for the event.

- Product Categories (5)
Free-to-play > PC/Windows
Role-Playing > PC/Windows
Role-Playing > Sony Playstation 4
Role-Playing > Xbox One
Strategy > PC/Windows

Role-Playing is a fairly specific category, and Shenmue HD would obviously fit the bill for that, especially on all 3 platforms aswell, since it would be a port i'm sure they would look to push it on PC and PS4 obviously, but why not Xbox One also...?

Obviously, other games they could be showing off like Valkyria Revolution and Yakuza Kiwami, you could also say fit that category aswell...but still just thought it was interesting enough to share.

Here's the link if you are interested :) -

EDIT: Hmm, just discovered theres another section for Atlus / Sega, and here they are entered into 103 different categories...again some pretty interesting and specifc stuff! Making me extremely excited :D!! -

Re: Shenmue Dojo Twitch Channel - schedule & discussion

Ok, first off, sorry for the blips over the past 2 weeks. I know they were supposed to be (arguably) the best episodes that we will have done so far, covering Fangmeis Birthday, and of course the duck racing. Unfortunately, my ISP here had other plans, and despite thinking i was on the best (and most expensive!) package, it turns out not necessarily so. I currently get 70mb download speeds, and 5mb upload speeds. Thats more than adequate for me, however the problem has arisen when we moved the start times, and 9pm is still within the "peak time" threshold. Its because of this, that the screen started juttering after the 1 hour mark, with OBS dropping frames like crazy, and the reason for this is because my ISP only allow up to a 2gig upload threshold per hour. They do have valid reasons for this, in particular to prevent P2P sharing and other illegal activity, but the issue is what about the rapidly rising amount of uploaders to the likes of Twitch and Youtube etc. who are doing perfectly legal activities.

So my ISP also have a 200 "gamer" package where they have promised me no traffic management restrictions or thresholds. Its a little bit more extra a month (of course it is) so ive went ahead and ordered it. The alternative was to move the times back to what they were which first of all, doesnt really suit myself with working a full time job, as well as the numbers and response to the new times have been very positive. Anyways, that hopefully will take care of any issues we have had, and the times will stay the same for this weeks stream and we will see how we get on.

Re: Review The Last Game You Beat

So... My summer Car. You cannot really "finish" the game, but I have been playing the game enough to be able to write a brief review, I think.

I brought the game on a whim a few weeks ago, after binge watching Robbaz's videos of the game , and I unexpectedly fell in love with the game pretty quickly. This game is basically an ultra detailed life simulator game where you build a car. You play as an 18 year guy in 1995, whose parents are away from home during the summer and apparently they task you to "fix" your uncle's car. The car is literally a big pile of parts, and you have to put everything together, starting from the engine block. The game requires you to tighten every nut and bolt (you also have to choose the right wrench for the screws), and tune the car properly so it can run. If you do not follow a guide, this makes the game extremely difficult, but ultra rewarding when you get the car running for the first time. I spent an entire real world night putting the car together, like I started before the sun went down and when I finished the sun was up for a few hours. I'm sure I was playing for about 12 hours, but the time went by so fast. The car even wasn't completely finished (I didn't put on the doors, exhaust, dash, and other misc parts that wasn't needed for the car to start), but I did get the car running, which was SO satisfying. After you get the car running, you can drive it around to test it out, or bring it straight to the shop so you can get some guy to inspect your car, and if you pass, you get your license plates. If you drive you car around without license plates, the cops will chase you down if you see them, but they are not too hard to avoid in the game. I didn't even get my car inspected until I accidentally came across the shop for the first time.

You can also do various jobs to get money for upgrades and repairs for your car. Your main job is to drain septic tanks, and the process is as detailed as you expect it to be in a game like this. You have to get the hose out, attach it to your truck, dump it in the tank, and turn on the hydraulic pump. There are also other ways to earn money, such as picking people up from the bar, brewing booze, and delivering lumber. The atmosphere of the game is pretty great, and you can tell the game is a real labor of love. Oh yea, the game is also permadeath by default so if you get in a bad accident, or someone runs you over, your save gets deleted and you have to start all over again.

The negatives I have to say about the game is that it is basically impossible to play unless you have a steering wheel controller. You spend the majority of your time in game on crappy dirt roads that cause your car to veer in crazy directions if you go slightly off-road, and usually gets stuck or flips over. This is mostly because that the dirt roads have a sharp drop-off, and the terrain is very low poly. Going off road wouldn't be so dangerous if they doubled the polygons of the terrain and made things smoother. Also you live ultra far from town, so expect at least a 15-25min real life drive to town to buy anything, or pick up junk you order in mail. You can take a more direct route to town using the boat to travel through the lake, though. You also cannot save unless you are near a toilet so if you are in the middle of nowhere (like 75% of the map), you are going to have to travel pretty far just to save and quit.

Overall I think I would give the game a 7/10. It is an ultra satisfying game, but I don't think I'll continue playing the game after I die. If the terrain wasn't so terrible, I would probably give it a 9/10.

Re: Archive of Shenmue Passport content?

Heya guys, Falco Girgis here. I'm the lead developer of the Elysian Shadows RPG on Kickstarter and I'm the dude from Adventures in Game Development on YouTube.

I've been in contact with an admin here using the Shenmue Dojo YouTube username about this icon restoration endeavor. You might not know, but as part of developing Elysian Shadows and our cross-platform SDK, I've developed a massively-cross platform VMU emulator (ElysianVMU) that will allow people to enjoy Dreamcast-specific VMU content on any device... For example, if you bought ES for steam, you can connect remotely to your iPhone running our EVMU app and it will be used as an additional screen with full filesystem support and even the little beeps, haha.

I've made it my personal mission to make EVMU THE number one emulator for the platform and have gone all-out OCD with implementing a billion features, emulating everything perfectly, and supporting every platform ever. Right now it's in open beta, but it pretty much supports everything and does a WHOLE lot of stuff I've never seen other emulators do.
⋅ Supports the Japanese BIOS packaged with the Katana SDK, so you can emulate the whole system including clock and filesystem mode.
⋅ Insanely accurate LCD emulation, including emulated refresh rate to accurately reproduce pixel ghosting effects and also the grayscale effect that a lot of very advanced VMU games used to create the illusion of multiple shades of black.
⋅ Variable resolution, shitloads of resolution modes.
⋅ 100% accurate buzzer support. Every emulator I've ever seen has half-assed the square wave generation. EVMU is so accurate it even reproduces the VOLUME of the wave, because the VMU does not output every wave at the same volume.
[*}Export feature for VMS icons and eyecatch graphics.
⋅ Save/load state
⋅ .LCD File support for playing animations made with the DC Animator tool
⋅ .DCI Nexus support
⋅ FULL filesystem support, meaning you can load raw .VMU flash dumps of an entire VMU image with game AND save data.
⋅ VMU-to-VMU connection emulated over IP (mate chaos over the internet, lmfao) and even serial, because we're planning on releasing an adapter for connecting physical VMU devices to EVMU.
⋅ Built-in assembler/disassembler and instruction-set reference for developers and disassembling VMU game code to reverse engineer it.
⋅ External USB controller support. Even support for the analog stick. Haha.
⋅ Emulates the "Low battery" signal of the VMU, which can be toggled on and off. Certain games actually give you special screens and notification when your batteries are dying.
⋅ Turbo Buttons
⋅ Speed Up/Slow Down Buttons
⋅ VMI/VMS Header file dumps

The only other big thing that I still need to do is represent the filesystem in a GUI similar to what DreamExplorer is doing. The filesystem itself is already fully emulated and allows for access even remotely. I'm hoping to convince some Dreamcast emulator authors to integrate with EVMU over IP for the full DC/VMU experience.

We're working on a project home page right now, but we have a thread with Dropbox links to downloads and feature requests and bug report discussion here:
http://forums.elysianshadows.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&p=91659#p91659

In the Dropbox folder, there should be builds of the latest commit available for Windows, MacOS, Ubuntu, and the Raspberry Pi (because why not?) with more coming soon.

Any way, the point is that I've invested a bunch of time into loading and displaying the VMU save file icons in EVMU. I want to help with this endeavor, and I can add any kind of feature that can help facilitate this process or make your lives easier.

The "dump-to-PNG" feature does fully work for icons, but it's only dumping it as separate PNG images for each frame. I am actually internally constructing the full animation with proper timing for my display... Is it the animated GIF format you guys are hoping to use? Are they animated? What can I do to help?

Also does it use the "eyecatch" extra graphic? Apparently some games have a higher resolution special "eyecatch" in the VMS header that is displayed in the detail view in the Dreamcast BIOS file manager... I have implemented the ability to dump these eyecatches, but I don't know of a SINGLE Dreamcast game that uses them, so it has never been tested... the image output could be garbage, and need a little debugging... Anybody know of a game that uses them?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts (Read OP Before Posting)

Leaving now to go pick up this Horizon Zero Dawn. Apparently it's a good game...

Know what I loved about buying this game, is that I walked in and seen that the retail price for this was £49.99, but the amount of preowned copies was firstly ridiculous, but even more ridiculous was the fact that they were charging £45.99 for a PREOWNED copy.
I didn't even lift a case off of the shelf of my local GAME store, I walked up to the counter and asked for a copy of Horizon Zero Dawn. The guy said sure, walked over, and began flicking through the drawer... Ya know where they take out the game disc and a manual of a PREOWNED copy. I filled with anger watching him do so, and when he came back to me I just stared into his eyes and with venom, I said, "I don't think so, I want a new copy". His reply was, "oh you don't want a preowned copy sir? It's 4 quid cheaper. Could get you a pint mate"

I just lost it. I said firstly sonny Jim, I don't drink. Second, I want my money to go to the people that actually make the game, and not you who have already sold a copy and are looking to completely rip off the developers by peddling preowned games at almost full price!

His look of disgust was priceless, I think he was the manager too but I didn't give a shit. He sulked out the back door, one of them doors with a key code, and got me a sealed new copy. I understand it's getting harder for game stores to stay in business, but the preowned culture is disgusting. I always buy games new, to make sure my money goes to the people that actually made the thing.

E3 2017 - Games, dates & rumors

https://68.media.tumblr.com/3eec02683f29eec3fa5ce4c9f87d61bb/tumblr_opa4696siH1vilcqco1_500.jpg

Here we go, its that time of year where we start the journey towards the worlds biggest gaming event of the calendar year, the Electronic Entertainments Expo 2017. This year seen the show floor opened to the general public for the first time via purchasing tickets from the E3 official site. I myself was tempted to go, but i decided that ive spent enough money the past couple of years, and i would only want to attend the press conference which, lets face it, is a nigh impossibility unless you know higher ups for each company.
Another huge sell for this years event is the first year for "new" consoles from almost all of the major players, inclusing the PS4 pro, Nintendo Switch, and we can look forward to lots of information regarding the Microsoft Scorpio console due for release later in the year. All in all, this year seems to be set as one of the biggest E3 events yet, so lets break it down.

EA Play - Saturday June 10, time to be announced - Twitch Link

Bethesda - Sunday June 11, time to be announced - Twitch Link

Microsoft - Sunday June 11, 2:00pm PST/5:00pm EST/9:00pm BST/10:00pm CET - Twitch Link / Xbox Link

PC Gaming Show - no announcement as of yet - Twitch Link

WHAT TO EXPECT

EA Play has decided to have their own press conference this year separate from E3 itself, but the timing makes it part of the overall E3 viewing. From June 10 - 12, players who attend the Hollywood based event will get hands on with the next Star Wars™ Battlefront and Need for Speed™ experiences. there will also be the opportunity to play a many of our upcoming EA SPORTS™ titles: Madden NFL 18, FIFA 18 and NBA LIVE 18. This isn't all, and more will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Throughout the three-day event, EA will be providing you with detailed gameplay deep dives, competitive events and exclusive interviews with the development teams. So whether you're experiencing EA PLAY in-person or watching online, be sure to follow from June 10.

CONFIRMED: Star Wars, Need for Speed, Madden NFL 2018, Fifa 2018, NBA Live 2018
RUMORED: tbc

http://i.imgur.com/VEjDXEZ.png

Like Microsoft, Bethesda has announced its E3 2017 press conference nice and early. The company's VP of PR and marketing, Pete Hines, has noted that its event will be the same day and same time, which makes it the Sunday before the show, starting at 7pm PT.

A company tweet also confirmed that it will be on Sunday 11 June. That means it will be live at 10pm ET and 3am UK time.

CONFIRMED: tbc
RUMORED: Quake Champions, Doom VR, Fallout 4 VR

http://i.imgur.com/I4rzUx0.jpg

Microsoft arguably stole press conference day in 2016, with the announcement of the Xbox One S and, more surprisingly, its next games console, codenamed Project Scorpio. It has already announced its press conference for 2017 and it has been shifted to the Sunday before the show (normally takes place on the Monday morning). So the Project Scorpio launch event will occur on 11 June from 2pm PT - that's 5pm ET and 10pm in the UK.

CONFIRMED: Nothing official
RUMORED: Lots of Scorpio information, Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2

http://i.imgur.com/gA4DSn0.jpg

Nothing official has been announced regarding a PC Gamers show, including if there even will be one at all. I will update this with any relevant news

CONFIRMED: tbc
RUMORED: tbc

http://i.imgur.com/4OELcdg.jpg

Ubisoft always hosts its press conference on the Monday prior to the show doors opening and we see no reason for that to be different this year.

CONFIRMED: tbc
RUMORED: New Assassins Creed game/additional content/movie news, new Far Cry, Rayman Legends Definitive Edition for Switch, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Steep for Switch

http://i.imgur.com/qh4iLOl.jpg

With PlayStation's own 4K console released at the end of last year, we don't expect to see any hardware news. The company will more than likely focus entirely on the games, much to fans' delight.

Sony is yet to reveal details of its press conference, but if it follows form, it'll take place at 6pm PT Monday 12 June - that's 9pm ET and 2am Tuesday 13 June in the UK.

CONFIRMED: tbc
RUMORED: Days Gone, Death Stranding, Detroit: Become Human, God of War, Gran Turismo Sport, Knack 2, Spider-Man, The Last of Us 2, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Yakuza Kiawami, Shenmue 3.

http://i.imgur.com/v9gBCtI.jpg

Nintendo's E3 will undoubtedly be all about the Switch. It doesn't hold a press conference at the show anymore, but will more than likely host an online presentation, showing off a swathe of Switch games. Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime being particularly bullish, promising the company will deliver a "big" E3 this year. Reggie promises Nintendo will be "showcasing a variety of games", meaning owners of the machine should be getting very excited indeed.

CONFIRMED: tbc
RUMORED: Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There we go. This will be a work in progress as the coming weeks hopefully fly by. Any news articles can be posted and any changes will be made to the above list accordingly. Shenmue specific discussion has its own thread in the Shenmue 3 forum , and lets enjoy the ride!

Re: Archive of Shenmue Passport content?

Heya buddy, I have a surprise for you! I implemented the animated GIF exporting! This actually turned out to be a pretty sweet feature!

So I'm not exactly sure what file type "vms00.bin" is, but judging by the name, I'm assuming it's simply .vms. If that's the case, you are going to have to change the extension before trying to load it into EVMU, and I'm really not sure why the hell they are just using a .bin extension...

Once you have the emulator opened and the file loaded, there are a few features that are going to make your life so much easier.

Here's a link to the Dropbox folder with all of the latest builds:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rai7db85bqq5iz0/AAAbnQfEJpTFaHkQ8K6nP6kVa?dl=0

Recording an Animation
From the file menu, go to Tools->Capture Animation->Record to begin recording, or simply push CTRL/CMD+R.
http://elysianshadows.com/vmu/evmu_record.png

You should see the red "recording" icon, and a little message. Once you see that, everything that's happening on the VMU is being captured for the animated GIF.

Once you're done capturing whatever it is that you want, either stop recording from the file menu or the shortcut again. The animated GIF should automatically be generated and should be opened with the default program. If you want to actually view the files, they're located at:

Windows: C:/Users/YourUserName/ElysianVMU
MacOS: /Users/YourUserName/ElysianVMU
Linux: /home/YourUserName/ElysianVMU

The files should be named the same thing as the ROM image, and every new recording should simply append a number to the previous recording output.

Halt and Advance Frame
I decided that I should also implement these two, because you might be capturing a very quick/precise segment of an animation, and you want to only record the relevant frames. By Halting the emulator execution, then slowly advancing the frames until you've run through everything you want to capture, you can more easily record precise segments.

From the file menu, the Emulation->Playback menu should have the actions for both Halting and Advancing the frame, or the shortcuts are F2 and F3 respectively.
http://elysianshadows.com/vmu/evmu_halt_advance.png

Note that "halting" or slowing down the execution does NOT actually effect the timing of the animated GIF output, so don't worry about screwing up the timing. "Advance Frame" basically advanced the emulator 1/20th of a second, which is usually a single frame for a ROM. This may be only half a frame for certain ROMs, so you may have to advance twice to get a full frame.

Note that the output GIFs are EXTREMELY optimized and efficient, since the VMU is at such a low resolution and only has a 2 color palette. You can record fairly long, complex animations without the file size getting more than a few KB. I figured that the exported resolution should probably say the VMU's native 42x38 to keep the file small and to allow you to stretch/scale as you see fit later on. Didn't want to introduce any inaccuracy at the raw output level.

Note that this whole feature was developed on MacOS, but it should work fine on Windows. Let me know if anything is wrong or you run into any bugs.

Here are a few animations that I captured:
http://elysianshadows.com/vmu/shenmue.gif
http://elysianshadows.com/vmu/VMU%20Mini%20Pacman_1.gif
http://elysianshadows.com/vmu/Tiny%20Tetris_24.gif
http://elysianshadows.com/vmu/CHAO%20ADV%202_8.gif

EDIT: Oh yeah, if you want the BEST POSSIBLE TIMING, with minimal frame glitches, be sure to load the "jap_bios.bin" from File->Load BIOS along with the ROM. Without the exactly timings used by the official Sega BIOS, it's possible some frames may update in the middle of drawing, so you might see a bit of flickering or half the screen updating like this... although looking at the Shenmue animations, they're so slow, I highly doubt this will really matter.

Re: Shenmue Timex watch

For me, the real Shenmue watch is undoubtedly the Timex that the programmers copied - one particular variation of the T43371.
It's definitely not the Ltd Edition because that has the wrong wording, and too much of it, all around the ring (from every picture I've seen except a promo). So there is none of the long black section on the ring that there should be - the extra words fill it up.

Also lets be honest, writing Shenmue on it was kind of cheesy.

But putting the wrong writing on the Ltd edition was a bad mistake which I couldn't overlook.
If I owned the Ltd Ed. I'd still need to get a T43371 for authenticity.

Half of the T43371's that I've seen also have the wrong writing, so that's worth checking out before buying.
I guess the ones with the accurate writing were made earlier, so the Shenmue developers copied this, then Timex updated the watch with extra words and when people went to make the Ltd Ed. they used the update.

So the Ltd Edition became a noticeably less accurate version of the one the developers put in the game.

Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

Okay, so here is Yamanose in a time-lapse since it was requested and because the shrine is indeed worth watching.

https://youtu.be/XHKPh-iogcE

I had to pull off some tricks to get a good look at the shrine. I simply couldn't find a spot that gave a good angle without Ryo locking on to virtually every NPC. So I used the power of nullDC Cheater to freeze the camera in place and then moved Ryo out of the way.

There's definately something interesting going on with the shrine visitors. While trying to get this video done I noticed differences in who would appear during my bunch of attempts on different days. Like already mentioned by ShenGCH, Liu-san will visit the place early in the morning. He only appears there after you've met him in Suzume Park however.
You can also see Manabu Takimoto and he didn't always appear at the shrine. I don't know how it works but it could be that the game has some sort of weekly schedule for who appears on wich days. Could also be dependent on where you are in the story.

I was actually expecting more visitors and also thought it would be possible to see the kids change shift taking care of the kitten. Since there aren't that many NPCs walking by I made it run quite a bit faster than the previous one.

Re: New Members Introduce Yourself!

Hi. Enigma here (chose the username because I enjoy their music). I’ve been checking this site for news for a while now. I was active on Shenmue UK for a bit and was involved in the #BuildingTheList collage with Stare and Sweaty a while back but have been rubbish with social media/forums ever since. My reason for joining the Dojo now is because the thread ‘Doing something nice for Shenmue III team’ appealed to me and I wanted to make an effort and chip in.

Exposition dump: I discovered Shenmue when my brother-in-law bought me the first game for my Dreamcast back in 2001. I then got Shenmue 2 on Xbox and I've loved the series ever since. My earliest gaming memories include playing Super Star Wars, Panzer Dragoon and Die Hard Arcade with my brother. I’m just as passionate about games today and I still can't quite believe that Shenmue 3 is intended to release this winter! \:D/ Anyway, hi.

Re: New Shenmue bomber jacket from Insert Coin Clothing

I do not mean to hurt anyone's feelings and I need to replay the game, but that does not look anything like the jacket Ryo wears. And $75?! #-o It mentions some thing about "inspired by", but if you are even going to make the attempt, try to make it better. I mean it is like they went out of their way NOT to do it right. ](*,)

Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

If you have a minute, please vot for the Shenmue Franchise in the Ranker.com "Best Video Game Franchises of All Time" list.
http://www.ranker.com/list/best-video-game-franchises/ranker-games

Shenmue has been added yesterday (Only video game franchises with at least 3 games in the series.) and is currently at number 88.

I don't know how popular this Ranker website is, but it would have been a shame for Shenmue not to at least appear in the list, especially now with Shenmue 3 coming and high hopes for the remasters of 1 & 2.

Thanks!

Shenmue Game Gear Box Art

Hey all!

I decided to be creative and come up with box art for what Shenmue may have been like if it were on Sega Game Gear. Why do this? I love my Game Gear and would have totally bought this. Sadly, Game Gear wasn't supported for nearly long enough IMO.

I did not create any of the art but merely put it together to make one piece. A hypothetical look at what the box art would have been like.

I had saved a Tiff that looked a lot better but Photobucket doesn't allow Tiffs. Let me know what you think. Also, I did this in PowerPoint just to see if I could.

Shoes On... Shoes Off | Shenmue Realism

The latest post on the Phantom River Stone blog looks at the custom of removing footwear inside the house in Japan (and other Asian countries) and how this is depicted in the first two Shenmue games...

Re: Manchester explosion at concert. 19 dead. 50+ injured.

I'm not even shocked anymore, it's like this is just routine in Europe now.

Re: Random Shenmue Thoughts

I just noticed that the watch looks a little bit cleaner and smoother when it's displayed in one of the arcade games.
I wonder if it has something to do with the video mode that's used there. Image for comparison is enlarged to 400%.

Seaman Remaster/New Game in the Works?!

Ok,

So, it was two years ago that Shenmue 3 gets announced after having a rather large following and hundreds of fans clamoring for the sequel and eventually having to pay for the game to even be created via crowd funding.

Meanwhile, two years later... Seaman gets backed and starts up without the need of a Kickstarter. What the actual F?
