Tekken dev requests guest fighter ideas - let's give 'em one

Tekken's Harada has recently asked on Twitter for guest character suggestions - likely as baseline research into Tekken 7 DLC.

https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/853769649447608320

We all know about Harada's reverence for Shenmue and Yu Suzuki thanks to that amazing interview Switch graciously translated for us all on his blog, so a swell in suggestions for Ryo being a guest character in Tekken is likely to be noticed and taken seriously.

In regards to the fighting style differences between Tekken and the Virtua Fighter-lite system Shenmue uses, the Tekken team appear to have been very faithful with mixing in the gameplay style of Street Fighter when they included Akuma into baseline Tekken 7, and hopefully they'll do the same again with Ryo and have him control quite like he should if he is included.

WHY THIS MATTERS IF YOU DON'T LIKE TEKKEN/WANT RYO IN TEKKEN

It raises the profile of the series and its characters, which is nothing but beneficial to Shenmue III or future instalments. I'm not much of a Tekken person either, but I see this as an opportunity.

Shenmue fans are great at mobilising and making our voices heard, so why not throw our weight behind this to grab Harada's attention?

Sega E3 Product Categories

Probably nothing to go crazy over, but was checking out Sega's E3 page on the E3 website, and they appear to be entered into 5 categories for the event.

- Product Categories (5)
Free-to-play > PC/Windows
Role-Playing > PC/Windows
Role-Playing > Sony Playstation 4
Role-Playing > Xbox One
Strategy > PC/Windows

Role-Playing is a fairly specific category, and Shenmue HD would obviously fit the bill for that, especially on all 3 platforms aswell, since it would be a port i'm sure they would look to push it on PC and PS4 obviously, but why not Xbox One also...?

Obviously, other games they could be showing off like Valkyria Revolution and Yakuza Kiwami, you could also say fit that category aswell...but still just thought it was interesting enough to share.

Here's the link if you are interested :) -

http://mp037jm24.mapyourshow.com/7_0/exhibitor/exhibitor-details.cfm?ExhID=Vc59qhav

EDIT: Hmm, just discovered theres another section for Atlus / Sega, and here they are entered into 103 different categories...again some pretty interesting and specifc stuff! Making me extremely excited :D!! -

Re: Kickstarter Update #66 - Yu-san on story-building

All reasonable rebuttals.

You'd hardly post them if you didn't think so.

I'm not going to tell anyone what they should appreciate most about the games, I'm only talking about objective facts, and it's an objective fact that the mysticism became more overt as the story progressed. You don't have to like it, but to be in any way surprised or disappointed at the thought of the Sword of Seven Stars playing a role in Shenmue 3, which directly continues from Shenmue 2's ending featuring the Sword of Seven Stars, means at some point you were kidding yourself about the direction in which this series was already heading.

Mystical elements are intrinsic to the game's plot. Seriously, if it bothers you then you've spent fifteen years pining over the wrong franchise, because that's just what Shenmue is, like it or not.

Guilin is the best part of any game to me

The Guilin section of Shenmue II is my favorite section of a game ever made. It's so beautiful in its contrast to the rest of the series with its sights AND sounds. The fateful meeting, the ambient music, the conversations, the easy-going tone of it, the mystery of the stone cave. I just love it so much. Watching the Game Informer video of it has been a big reminder of that. Anyone else feel similarly?

New official survey from Sega

Sega is conducting research for its mobile division with a survey about the franchises players are familiar with and enjoy.

Amongst the many listed options is Shenmue, so regardless of platform, it's another opportunity for fans to keep that name at the front of Sega's mind.

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

I personally don't understand all the fuss over a clearly unfinished character model.

Maybe this is why we aren't seeing a lot of backer updates. If this is what it's like on the Dojo I daren't even guess what the KS comments are like. I'd expect this sort of behaviour from ill-informed 'journalists' from IGN or Eurogamer, but not those claiming to be Shenmue fans.

To be honest, it's quite sad.

Ys Net Yu Suzuki can't win. Can't please fans, can't please press. And people wonder why they aren't releasing a trailer on a mostly unfinished game. It would be torn to shreds.

Very glad, they've minimised the reveal, because I want to enjoy the game as it I play, rather than it exposed in many bits in which I probably mentally put together the parts and guess the rest. Most importantly, not let the dev team be exposed to the excessive whinging and complaining which would dampen morale.

I suspect most of the disappointment is this model and their reluctance to show a full video indicates they are behind in schedule and won't release in 2017. To this, again I say, great. More time for them to get it right, rather than rush it out as turd and completely ruin the name of Shenmue.

We've all waited this long, whats another year or bit?

Worse is the unnecessary, in-fighting and petty squabbles mainly here, pretty toxic for any sort of community. ](*,)

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

Just to clarify my position further, I don't want anyone here to feel like they are being left out in this brief hiccup.

You all must RESPECT each other. I think all parties in the last few pages are at fault.

There will be no belittling of others opinions
No ganging up on individual members
No toxic behavior towards each other. (directly/indirectly)
No Drama, especially every time there is some form of update or no show of Shenmue

This goes for all of us. (regular members, donators, mods, staff, etc)

Im sure most of us can see where Spaghetti and darksniper are coming from. Both views are kool and make for interesting conversation.

Respect each other. We're all grown ups here and at the end of the day, we're all on the same team.

Re: Shenmue III Update #67: Developer Room Update 3

Still, being attacked for having a different opinion about the game and being told to leave is an act out of emotion and unwarranted. That's great that he's being promoted to moderator, but I still vehemently disagree with his attacks on me, and my love for Shenmue. I won't go any further than that and will not derail the subject at hand. Carry on.

If i crack your kneecaps in public with a baseball bat, thats an attack. If i type messages threatening your family repeatedly on a message board? Attack. Arguing over Yakuza vs Shenmue, and what looks better or should look like on a message forum, well...thats just a sign that you need to take a breath, open a new tab and go pull one off over some porn. Not an attack. Skip the drama fellas.

It's not? The topic is the update. We are discussing the update. Everyone in here is. I was a bit aggressive in my statement and I apologize if it offended anyone, but my sentiment that negative opinions are valid remains and he is incredibly dismissive in his rhetoric. You saying that you are making him a mod because of the "bullshit in this topic" is a bit hypocritical in that light.

I'm not going to get into a petty running around in circles with you. It's quite clear what I said. Go back and read it. Don't go down the road of, "oh well that's what it sounded like", or, "that's what you meant" with me. I said Spaghetti was being made a moderator due to the years of hard work he has out in, not just here, but across various sites promoting Shenmue in a positive light. I also said because he can conduct himself in a coherent manner, and I also said that it was because we needed more help in here because of a lot of bullshit that's been typed. Just so we are clear, definition of bullshit: hyped up posts because of negative emotions at a CHARACTER TEST video for polygon dents, and no Shenmue 3 at E3.

Clear enough? Good. It ends there.

Lurking for now, but I have not seen a single piece of this thread have anything remotely worth moderating? Why is what ChiefNeo and Darksniper says considered to be hostile and not Dojo worthy but Peter is allowed to call pieces of the conversation bullshit? I thought we were supposed to be talking about this topic without emotion, but Peter is allowed to call it bullshit. Pardon me for asking, but I'm really confused on what the line is?

Really? After the message you sent me this morning, you think you can lurk back in and mix it up? If you can't remove yourself from the boards like you said you would, I can happily take care of that for you?

I'm going to make this crystal clear one last tine:

I made it clear in another topic that there will be zero tolerance towards over emotion during E3 season, and 30 day bans will be issued immediately

We can only go by the material that has been given to us from YS Net. From the beginning the character models of Shenmue III have looked "off". The only reason why I can give you (Peter) the benefit of the doubt of calling the debate over this "bullshit" in your words is because you were fortunate enough to see some things thats the majority of us have not and that will naturally alter your opinion of what we're debating over. Still we're just going off of what we see right now.

I trust your opinion on what you have said about Shenmue III after what Yu Suzuki has shown you. If they were ready to unveil the game last year as originally intended, its clear that some serious work has been done that is consistent with what you've seen.

Either way, the only thing to do is wait and see and reserve further judgement until then.

Right, but it's not about giving ME the benefit of the doubt. This is what I don't understand at all. All of the poeple in here moaning and complaining, are not giving Yu Suzuki the benefit of the doubt!
And on what basis does this come from? Have you seen the tests of the original Shenmue and compared them to the finished product? No. You are comparing a finished product to one that clearly has marked on the tin, "work in progress". Surely you get that now? All the negativity surrounding this update is essentially unwarranted because it's test material, and far away from the look of the finished product. We are not supposed to see this stuff, and wouldn't if it was a regular game being developed. As someone said before I seen whilst reading, YSNET cannot win here. If they show nothing, they get slated. They show test materials they get slated. How about giving them a break and some praise for the work they are doing instead of going off on one is my point.

Everyone has their own opinions, I just use the basis of the release Shenmue games to base my opinion in a more positive light, because being negative about this will get people nowhere. If anything, based on experience, you will just have egg on your face when the game does turn out to be good, and a far cry from these tech videos we currently get.

Re: Shenmue 3 & E3 2017 - UPDATE - Confirmed will NOT be at

The HD Remasters are not going to be announced at this E3, and probably ever . Hope you guys realize it before the crushing disappointment tonight...

Why do you think the remasters will never come out?

Because Shenmue 3's big moment at E3 is 2 years old, and in those 2 years we didn't get the slightest clue about the remasters being in production (not 1 leak, not 1 pic, nothing, zero), aside from some guy on Neogaf fucking about in a thread.

If Sega doesn't make the remasters during what is arguably the best period they'll ever have for Shenmue's popularity (between the KS announcement and Shen 3 release), when will they ever make them?

I understand the lack of faith from anyone. Heck I sometimes feel the same because ya know.... Sega.

But I've tried over the past few weeks to word my posts as best I can, to try and give you guys hints as to what a few people behind the scenes either know, or are at least aware of. My name may be green and I am just seen as someone who steps in when conversations go sideways around here, but rest assured that's not the case at all. Behind the scenes, I work endlessly developing contacts, relationships and try to get a feel as best I can in regards to what's happening with Shenmues future. This ranges from industry employees, journalists, and even Awesome Japan and YSNET on occasion.

I don't keep information to myself either, I also share what I find out with certain people I trust and feel should know within the community. Anything I hear ahead of time, I use to get ready from a community standpoint. Write a post and set up the mindset of how to present that. That trust goes a long way, and shows that not all of us want to run and post what would be considered a leak, on NeoGaf or to a media website. I hold Shenmue very close to my heart and that of course includes the integrity of both the game itself and it's creators.

In regards to Shenmue HD, I have tried to point you guys in the direction of positivity. You don't have to listen to me, and be as skeptical all you want, but rest assured my positivity doesn't come from a fanboy passion based on hopes and dreams alone. I take what I hear and base my aspirations on that. Whilst I protect the information and their sources on the one hand, i also try and be as reassuring as I can to you guys on the other.

I have said before to forget Blitworks. Also, it's very.... Very simply a question of WHEN, and not IF Shenmue HD comes along. It may not be tonight at Sony's conference. But it will come. Keep the faith.

Fantastic update all around, couldn't be happier.

For one the logo is perfect. Nothing more to add, but yes it's the simple things.

The art continues to amaze, so iconic. How it transitions into actual character models (final build) will be interesting to see.

Gamescom. Yes! Smaller venue, less media pressure, fitting for a title with a budget as such and more to reveal sooner. Let's set the tone for a Shenmue filled end of the year leading into a jam packed 2018. I expect presence at the bigger shows when we have a near final product.

Oddly enough, this girl in the new update looks like she's a Japanese shrine maiden, miko-chan, with the red hakama and white kimono, rather than from China.

She's too cute not to be a future love interest for Ryo.

Yu didn't come back to make a "mediocre" Shenmue follow up.

July 3rd: Tweetathon to #SaveShenmueHD

https://s22.postimg.cc/rsc09ifb5/sshd-s3style-dojo.png

The monthly #SaveShenmueHD Tweetathon takes place this Monday, inviting fans to participate by tweeting the hashtag and retweeting others who do the same. You can also personalize an AutoTweet at TeamYu.net to be released en masse during the 24-hour event. There's also a 24 Hour Live Music Stream on Shenmue Dojo's YouTube channel.

With the recent news that Shenmue III will be presented at Gamescom next month, the fan base can use this opportunity to collectively ask Sega to join Ys Net in Cologne to confirm remasters of Shenmue 1 & 2 ahead of the new game's release.
