Re: Latest Purchases

Just preordered these:

Been waiting a helluva long time for them to finally come to bluray, and it's nice to see them both being released in such spectacular manner.
Kwaidan is easily one of the greatest Japanese horror films ever made, and I'll take the Yakuza Papers series over the Godfather series any day.
All of it is costing a pretty penny, but as long as i just save a bit before they release, it should be no problem. Gotta grab the Yakuza Papers one quick anyway, because these Arrow Video releases are always limited editions (usually only 3000 copies), and their prices usually jump pretty soon after release.

Happy to see another interview out!

It looks like there hasn't been any full translation made yet, so I'll make a start on it (may take a couple of days).

Update: translation posted here.

Re: What Song Are You Listening To Now?

Some good old 1970's British Heavy Metal. Love the contrast between the heavy guitars and the warm and gentle voice in the beginning! :rockit:

Re: Nioh (PS4) - Onimusha meets Dark Souls

Koei Tecmo shared new details and the first screenshots of Nioh, newly re-revealed “dark Sengoku action RPG” for PlayStation 4, during a stage event at the Tokyo Game Show today.

Nioh protagonist William can fight using multiple weapons, including swords and spears. Spears have a wider range and can strike a larger number of oponents, but is difficult to use in confined spaces. Each weapon has its own characteristics such as this. Additionally, switching between a higher offensive stance and lower defensive stance will be an important element.

There will be an online element called “Chinokata Dzuka” (Bloody Sword Mound). When you’re connected online and playing the game, you’ll see the “bloody sword mounds” of players who have died sticking out of the ground. When you touch it, that player’s “Jigurui” (Corpse Deviation) will appear and a battle will ensue. You can see their name, level, and cause of death before deciding whether to summon them. Corpse Deviation battles are dangerous, but defeating the summon might earn you useful items.

William also has at his disposal a variety of “Guardian Spirits,” which can be used at certain times to unleash a powerful attack. Some also offer healing abilities. If you die, your Guardian Spirit will stay in the location you were killed, and if you don’t recover it, you won’t be able to use it again. You’ll be able to switch out your Guardian Spirit at shrines you encounter along the way.

Tecmo-Koei rep also teased a worldwide release for next year.

So there's summons, "this person died here" markers (with a twist; each time you click on the dead body of another player, their corpse will rise and you will have to fight them) different weapon stances, different weapon types with their own moveset, huge and tough as nails boss battles, heck there's even freaking bonfires (in the form of shrines). The From Software influence is real.

Re: Yakuza series

https://www.segalization.com/2015/10/23/more-yakuza-5-release-details-from-segas-live-stream/

Sega of America held a Yakuza 5 live stream today, where Sega PR Representative John Hardin and Localization Producer Sam Mullen showed a bit of what the game has to offer. Playing as Kiryu and Shinada, they showed the game’s combat, visited a hostess club, participated in karaoke, drove people around in a taxi, raced against a chicken (yes, that’s indeed in the game), … Suffice to say, there’s a ton to do in the game, and at the price it’s being sold it’s really a bargain. They also tried to give answers to questions from viewers, and I compiled a few of the answers they gave here:

⋅ Given that this is a digital release, the install screen from the Japanese retail game will unfortunately will not be present in this version. If you’re wondering why people would even care about an install screen; instead of just a static screen, the Japanese version of Yakuza 5 showed a video in the background of the five main characters of the game. ⋅ Someone asked if there were any missing songs due to licensing issues. Sega clarified that the game’s intro song will not be the same as in the Japanese version, but every other track is retained. Someone asked specifically if the song “Wild Romance” is in the game, Sega confirmed that this is indeed the case.
⋅ Other than that, they weren’t aware of any content that was removed from the localized version. While it was challenging to localize, Haruka’s comedy section is also confirmed to be in the game.
⋅ There’s no physical version of the game, neither for NA or EU. While this had already been confirmed several times, the mention of “disc only” on the game’s EU PlayStation Network page is making people think that the EU is getting a physical version. This is not the case.
⋅ There won’t be any preorders for the EU PlayStation Network Version of the game, but they’ll probably run a discount on the game in the first two weeks after its release in the EU. PlayStation Plus subscribers might get something extra (I’m not sure if this means a higher discount, or something else).
⋅ The install size of the game will be ~22GB on your PlayStation 3. This means you’ll need more than 40GB disc space available, since you also need to download the game before you can install it.
⋅ Two weeks from now, Sega of America will be doing another Yakuza 5 Live Stream where they’ll be playing as Haruka and (I think) Saejima.
⋅ They’re close to knowing the exact release date for the game, but they can’t confirm one yet. They’re still aiming for a mid-November release, of all goes according to plan.
Sam also mentioned they’d like to do more live streams for Sega games in the future. We hope they will! Thanks to Sega of America for the live stream and providing answers to the questions from the fans! Sega will be uploading the live stream to their Twitch stream archive, we’ll post an update when it’s available.

Re: What movie are you watching right now?

This was an interesting Yakuza movie. It was even cooler that it took place on Okinawa. I don't know if I liked it more because of the fact that I was in Okinawa for 6 months and it was nice to see it again in such an intimate fashion. Either way its an interesting movie worth checking out. Takeshi Kitano is as good as always.

Re: What are your top 10 most anticipated games?

Don't know how I forgot to mention this little sucker.

http://oi66.tinypic.com/rasynq.jpg

Really, really hoping this one is good. From what I've seen, the basic groove of the design work and concept is so far up my alley, it's ridiculous. The whole "Japanese juvenile delinquents" thang is usually appealing to me, with stuff like Kenka Bancho, the Kunio-kun/River City series, Crows, and other like-minded stuff.
Just need to see some actual footage from this. Still no clue how it's setup, whether it's level-based or open-world like Yakuza or what.

Re: What movie are you watching right now?

It has a few scenes that are quite graphic, but it gives a very honest depiction of what it's like in the crime ridden city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's in Portugese of course, but I didn't think that took anything away from the movie. That's coming from a guy who sees subtitled foreign games as a necessary evil. I highly recommend this one.

Re: Franchises That Were Tainted by the 7th Console Generati

Might be easier to list franchises that weren't ruined. I can only think of Mario and Yakuza.

Re: Franchises That Were Tainted by the 7th Console Generati

Splinter Cell : They destroyed everything the older episodes had cool. Disappearance of humour, no feeling from the gameplay, too fast-paced level design, horrendous HUD, no light & sound captors, annoying hollywood plots and acting. Blacklist is a good game though but I don't view it as a SC.
