Re: Final Fantasy

Yeah awesome picture but due to the very strict rules of the hosting company we would risk the site getting a boot to the head. Unfortunately, as its a really nice pic. =/

Re: Old School Dojo-ers

Strange memories on this nervous night at the Dojo. Ten years later? Eleven? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era—the kind of peak that never comes again. The dojo in the early 2000s was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run… but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant.…

History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of "history" it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time—and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened.

My central memory of that time seems to hang on one or five or maybe forty nights—or very early mornings—when I left the dojo half-crazy and, instead of going home, surfing at Ryos place or some random shenmue websites, not quite sure which turn-off to take when I got to the other end (always stalling at the admins, too twisted to find neutral while I fumbled for some reasonable post)... but being absolutely certain that no matter which way I went I would come to a place where people were just as high and wild as I was: No doubt at all about that…

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Shenmue 3 forum, then up the SEGA forum or down General.… You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning.…

And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.…

So now, less than ten years later, you can go up on a steep hill in the dojo and look back, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

I think that's also the one used for the in-game photos

Re: Rare Shenmue II DC video?

Don't give up hopes for a miracle. Tech has advanced every day since. So much pioneer work in Shenmue, sure SEGA licensed the CRI middleware for sound and video compression, but from todays view it is crazily expensive and time and resource consuming to write everything from scratch, the game engine, music formats and so on. Today you just license a 3D engine and add mp3/WAVE music and that's it. They even had to puzzle and trick a lot to have it fit on 4 GD-ROM. I think every day it gets cheaper and easier to make Shenmue 3.

I had given up hope on Duke nukem a decade ago. And then suddenly a miracle happened. Why not for Shenmue?

Re: Something from Shenmue you want for real?

I used to wear the same model timex watch featured in the game. I can tell you it's overrated, the alarm works on metal pins in the face which sometimes works, sometimes didn't work. I used to use it to time when my laundry would be done with a cycle to go to the laundry room to retrieve them. I do like Timex watches, they are overall, very affordable and reliable. But this one in particular isn't exactly a home run. I am currently wearing this timex watch, but I have a collection of various wristwatches as it's kind of a fetish of mine. :P

http://www.timex.com/watches/intelligent-quartz-fly-back-chronograph-t2n700za

I'm surprised that nobody said the motorcycle... :-o

I got 2 of these. Not sure if yours was faulty, but for mine the alarm worked fine - just imho the sound was a bit of low volume. Like when i am drunk or stuff i simply wont wake up from some 30 second low volume beeping. But besides that it worked just like in the game for me. The battery really lasts like 5+ years, just like in the end the luminescent feature would lose much of its glow until the battery is replaced. Still a nice all-day watch but take it off before going scuba diving or stuff. The very fine sand of Ibiza still is stuck in one of my 2 models. Otherwise they are really general purpose.

Re: A Wude render on Wikipedia?

Not impresive.
Wude's renders should be in the official Shenmue's videogames boxes

And large professional prints should be framed and shown in museums and exhibitions.
Okay maybe not super realistic, but that they got to Wikipedia in the official article kinda is a big honor. I guess it speaks for wude's renders if the wikipedia authors pick his pictures because they feel they belong to the most iconic and beautiful pictures representing the game.

Shenmue 2 renders are not out of question. Just provide me with a nullDC memory card file that has a usable disc 4 save (Beginning of guilin prefered). I lack the time to play through the whole game to get a capture. I am also not that good playing it on the keyboard.

THE CHEMIST!

Taken from Wise Mans quarter Chemist shop.

The Arcade came out a bit glitched. Dart machine texture is broken and Vending machine is empty. Also some smaller glitches.

Re: Shenmue 1080p

Thanks Wude, superb save game.

Okay so here's the first snapshot of floor 2F of the Big Ox building...

http://www.tankraider.com/userup/1331135328.jpg

Still some smaller glitches in it. Interestingly the bodies have no reflection... that's because there is no reflection. Due to the programming technique this rooms floor is not reflective as it looks but rather semi transparent and there's an exact mirror of the room below it. No lighting/material adjustments yet in this shot.

Does anyone have a savegame AFTER the annoying dou niu fight? I'm especially bad at the QTE anyways but with a keyboard i don't stand a chance at all.

Woke up around midnight. Turn on the TV. Its actually like 8 am. Simply forgot to adjust the clock to Japanese time. Opening the fridge. Hot dog and beer. Hot dog goes into the microwave, beer gets opened immediately. Its cold outside. 7 degree celsius. For Tokyo that is quite low. Turning on some music. Tom Jones - She's a lady. Re: I think this website used Master K's work

Lmao, well kinda accident i guess. I think they just wanted to show a "screenshot" of Shenmue to underline the article, my fault that i made that pic so much in-game alike. Well no claims by me, since imho all props go to SEGA/AM2, without them there would be no master K renderings at all. But yeah kinda funny since it's the 2nd case i know where some webpage reports about Shenmue and accidentially displays one of my renderings as a "screenshot". Well i take it as a compliment XD
