Re: Unpopular Opinions

Who said thus Thread would be fun? Somehow these ridiculous posts make me angry :D

That's kinda the point. Hopefully stuff like this can be a small reminder how selfish we can be. To the point of getting angry because someone doesn't believe what I do instead of simply asking why and potentially learning about another point of view.

But its mostly just to troll people incapable of such detachment.

Also I never realized how much of San Francisco hippie mue_26 was by reading his posts before. Go ahead and attack the government, the media, the medical instrustry and corporations all you want. I've got no problem with that, but porno? Evil? Have you not seen Maria Ozawa?

Re: Unpopular Opinions

lol. I was pondering something similar recently. How horrible the world would be, for me at least, if slavery had never happened. Almost all the music I live-by would never have existed. Everything from jazz and hip hop to all the great rock bands and soul singers. Then my thoughts immediately turned to how racist it would come off when I tried to explain it later.

Re: Unpopular Opinions

'Man Made' Global warming is bullshit. I'm a former president of the science club and I say this. There is no serious science behind the greenhouse effect, unless you think CO2 can block light rays, if that's the case, car exhaust would have a shadow. The reason why the icebergs are melting, and how there are less snow caps are because it's still a thawing process from the last ice age. I don't know why this is so hard to comprehend. I think the higher powers of the European and communist countries are promoting control of CO2 to take down the US economy. Notice how militant environmentalists are about it? It's because they have been conditioned to act that way, and that's by design.

I'm glad to see we have the President of the science club on the job.

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

To be fair, here's a list of RPG cliches you can use to counterbalance statements made on the previous page.

1. Sleepyhead Rule
The teenaged male lead will begin the first day of the game by oversleeping, being woken up by his mother, and being reminded that he's slept in so late he missed meeting his girlfriend.
2. "No! My beloved peasant village!"
The hero's home town, city, slum, or planet will usually be annihilated in a spectacular fashion before the end of the game, and often before the end of the opening scene.
3. Thinking With The Wrong Head (Hiro Rule)
No matter what she's accused of doing or how mysterious her origins are, the hero will always be ready to fight to the death for any girl he met three seconds ago.
4. Cubic Zirconium Corollary
The aforementioned mysterious girl will be wearing a pendant that will ultimately prove to be the key to either saving the world or destroying it.
5. Logan's Run Rule
RPG characters are young. Very young. The average age seems to be 15, unless the character is a decorated and battle-hardened soldier, in which case he might even be as old as 18. Such teenagers often have skills with multiple weapons and magic, years of experience, and never ever worry about their parents telling them to come home from adventuring before bedtime. By contrast, characters more than twenty-two years old will cheerfully refer to themselves as washed-up old fogies and be eager to make room for the younger generation.
6. Single Parent Rule
RPG characters with two living parents are almost unheard of. As a general rule, male characters will only have a mother, and female characters will only have a father. The missing parent either vanished mysteriously and traumatically several years ago or is never referred to at all. Frequently the main character's surviving parent will also meet an awkward end just after the story begins, thus freeing him of inconvenient filial obligations.
7. Some Call Me... Tim?
Good guys will only have first names, and bad guys will only have last names. Any bad guy who only has a first name will become a good guy at some point in the game. Good guys' last names may be mentioned in the manual but they will never be referred to in the story.
8. Nominal Rule
Any character who actually has a name is important in some way and must be sought out. However, if you are referred to as a part of a posessive noun ("Crono's Mom") then you are superfluous.
9. The Compulsories
There's always a fire dungeon, an ice dungeon, a sewer maze, a misty forest, a derelict ghost ship, a mine, a glowing crystal maze, an ancient temple full of traps, a magic floating castle, and a technological dungeon.
10. Luddite Rule (or, George Lucas Rule)
Speaking of which, technology is inherently evil and is the exclusive province of the Bad Guys. They're the ones with the robots, factories, cyberpunk megalopolises and floating battle stations, while the Good Guys live in small villages in peaceful harmony with nature. (Although somehow your guns and/or heavily armed airships are exempted from this.)

I like both RPGs and this list so I hope you'll enjoy it as well.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Marijuana decriminalised in Washington state

Possession of marijuana has become legal in the US state of Washington, a month after voters opted for decriminalisation.

From midnight (08:00 GMT) anyone aged 21 and over was allowed to carry up to 1oz (28.4g) of cannabis, but smoking it in public will remain illegal.

What states will follow? or will this be quickly taken back amid concerns from old people and dopey religious drones? More importantly, is Spokane safe from all of these unrelenting refer smoking ruffians?

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

I voted against that shit. Besides, it still illegal to sell it, and that whole it will make the police focus on other stuff is a crock of shit too. The police came on the news right after it was passed and said it in fact makes their job a bit harder now. And no the state won't make any taxes on it, that was a lie too.

I would do it if I had a medical problem that it helped, but that was not illegal in the first place, one of my neighbors has a prescription for it, I think its for his back.

Of course it makes their job harder. Now there are slightly less people available to rope into the legalized slavery that is United States prison economy. The sentences for petty drug crimes are ridiculous and any overseer enforcing such nonsense should be ashamed of himself.

Re: The video game music of 2012

^^ Journey's music is indeed beautiful. I didn't mention it because I still haven't played it. But strangely enough, that's the main thing that makes me want to play it.
That's probably kind of weird, isn't it? Wanting to play a game because it literally sounds so good.
Well, either way, your post has reminded me that I need to play it, so I'll probably grab it up tomorrow when I'm at the store buying The Walking Dead game for my brother. Might even get the soundtrack, too. Just looked it up, and unlike most soundtracks for western-made games, they actually came out with a physical cd release.

Erik Satie, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel walk into a bar. The barman says something in French and they respond, but I don't speak French so I don't know what was funny about that.

Nobuo Uematsu is at a retaurant being served. The waiter walks up to him and ask how he's enjoying his cut of meat to which he replies: ステーキだね。

Thank you thank you. Don't forget to tip your waitress.

Re: What movie are you watching right now?

I'd recommend watching Whisper of the Heart if you haven't. It's my favorite of the Ghibli movies.

http://i.imgur.com/amG2Q.jpg

I'll certainly be giving that one a shot. I've only seen Castle of Cagliostro, Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service & and Arrietty up to this point so I have a lot of holes in my Ghibli story so far. I'm probably gonna watch Laputa tonight and, with your recommendation, Whisper of the Heart sometime shortly after.

Pale skin was valued in Japan even before Perry came in and turned the place upside down. It doesn't have anything to do with Europeans aka "white people" and its a bit arrogant for white people to assume everyone wants to be like them. Even though it often is true tee hee.

Also Rita Ora is very cute. Especially considering what I usually picture for Eastern European women.

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

Funny thing is, they've pretty much done that very thing in the past. I remember in Maximum Carnage on the Genesis and SNES, the end of the first stage actually dictates that Spider-Man get his ass kicked , all for the progression of the story. So no matter how well you play, there's no way to actually win at that part.
I feel like I've seen it elsewhere too, probably during the 16-bit era again, but I can't remember where exactly.

I can't even remember what the title of this one is (I just know I found it while looking up From Software games on Gamefaqs), but I like the style of it. Just a good old 90s cartoon style that you never see nowadays. The purple dragon looks a helluva lot like the one at the end of the volcano dungeon in Wonder Boy in Monster World too, so that just makes me like it even more.
