Re: Shenmue I or II (v. 2012)

It does look amazing via VGA, it's the only way I prefer to play.

Though Shenmue IIx also looked great via X-Box's HD component cables on a native 4:3 HD CRT. I miss mine so much.

Ahh, the good ol' days...

Re: Shenmue I or II (v. 2012)

Got a quick question to the ones who said they played Shenmue II first. Why didn't you play it in chronological order? Was it just a game you stumbled upon ,or was it a matter of availability or something else? and FYI I never played Shenmue II on the dreamcast and I was sad to hear that Shenmue II was only a Euro import, so I was ecstatic to hear that Shenmue II was on the Xbox . I'm also probably more fond of Ryo's English voice. It'd seem foreign to me to hear it in Japanese.
I never owned a Dreamcast when it was still on the market and at the time Shenmue II came out I'd not had an Xbox very long. To think for years I was contempt just watching Shenmue: The Movie..

Still enjoy it to this day actually

I know its meant to be read "Shenmuekid - sx", but i read it as "shenmuekids - x", as in you like to kiss kids who like Shenmue. Not a good thing in this day and age :-"

Pick a name to confuse everyone. Like Spokame, Yana, Mitttens, Peler, Joe Pescii etc.. Or steal an old name no longer used and become beedle'R'us or Ryudo.

Re: Would YOU donate to a Shenmue Project? (& how much)

With the Double Fine project being the only game I've ever supported on the website, I would happily pay $100-$150 for a Shenmue 3 project and less if it were a port of the previous games (though probably more if it came with decent swag)

I only spent $25 for the double fine one, as it was a nostalgic thing between me and my bro when I was young, but shenmue means so much to me (as you may know) because it means so much to us I actually would be prepared to spend more for it.

Tbh it's the only game left that I would want to come out. Street Fighter had its resurgence (and perhaps overdid it!), Monkey Island came out (new and remastered versions) and now a broken sword game has been announced on Kickstarter, what more is there?

I hope SEGA is doing something!!! Even the ports! That's progress!

Re: Studying Abroad in London

avoid any hairdressers thats does 5£ cuts and you should be fine

Lies. I got a £5 haircut every time until I was about 17 and realized that the only thing better than £5 hair cut is cutting your own hair for free! Though it's true that I just used to get it shaved relatively short, and it's pretty hard to mess that up. They were OK enough with clippers, but I'm so sure I would have trusted them with a pair of scissors.

beckham hasn't been relevant in years no one cares what he does anymore

More lies! I want Becks to be the next Batman (seriously, he has the right face for it)! Unfortunately I'm pretty sure people still worship Beckham to an extent. Have you seen how many people now have that haircut?

I have a slight question to my fellow Brits in regards to this tutorial I'm working on which focuses on British stand up comedians & how they push moral boundaries through their comedy material. I also wrote that their comedic material is reflective of contemporary British culture. Would you guys give me some insight on whether or not this is true, and perhaps the kinds of comedians that reflect this thesis? I thought I'd use comedians that are pretty popular in the UK Gervais Minchin and Izzard, but if you can give me some other ones that might be better then I would appreciate it. General Information and wisdom can help too as to how I should build on this thesis

Is it reflective of contemporary British culture? Hmm, I guess, but does "British culture" even exist anymore, at least outside of small rural type towns anyway? There seems to be so many small fragmented cultures in most of Britain nowadays, and I don't think many really give too much of a shit about "Britian", which is kind of in contrast to how many Americans feel about their nation (hence all the "America- fuck yeah" jokes).

Though I think there probably is still something of British culture in there somewhere, especially in our humour. I guess British humour is more cutting and has more of a bite to it than than the humour in other places maybe because of the "banter" culture we have over here. It seems to me that while Americans and people from other nations appear happy to just enjoy someone's company in simplicity, us Brits seem to be obsessed with the art of banter, and verbally abusing our social peers in any way we can. That's why every pub worth it's salt is effectively a training ground in the art of banter. Our banter often straddles the line just between harmless fun and genuinely offensive abuse, and some do take things too far in the name of "banter". I think this is why your average Brit has a far more sutble and often cruel sense of humour in comparison to to say American's who haven't been through the rigorous banter training that we have.

The difference is also very visible on the net, compare your average British populated forum to an American one, you'll usually find banter at a far more advanced and nuanced level on the British forums, while the banter of American forums tend to be far more unpolished and basic, and there's usually less of it. For a comparison look at the Shenmue UK forums compared to here.

While I think this is probably a part of the reason British humour is so different (better) than American humour, I have to admit that I don't really like excessive British banter all that much. while I am somewhat indoctrinated in the art form, many take it too far and banter becomes an excuse for a personal insult (indeed, they are often one and the same). It can make some British oriented forums unnecessarily harsh and uninviting.

Re: Studying Abroad in London

Becks is bloody everywhere, I find. It's hard to get away from the geez. He's either on some chatshow or at some event that makes it's way onto the news, or is sticking his groin in my face with all those underwear adverts. He also seems to have a "collaboration range" with about 100 different clothing manufacturer's. Oh, and he also has some scent they were recently advertising on TV. I literally can't escape him. It's starting to make me a bit mad, and I sometimes have a "Becks breakdown" in which I start hallucinating everyone to all have David Beckham's face.

Re: Assassins Creed Series

Brotherhood definitely expands everything quite a bit.
Most people seem to regard Revelations as being the same basic game as Brotherhood, but with a different coat of paint over it. Which is fair, to an extent, but it doesn't change the fact that Revelations is my favorite overall. The setting, characters, and visual style are all a bit more "foreign" to my eyes, which makes it even more interesting (not to say, by any means, that Rome and its surrounding ruins aren't interesting). And the actual narrative is almost more of an "Assassin's Creed meets Indiana Jones" kind of thing; while AC2 and Brotherhood are both pretty focused on the same old cliche of revenge, Revelations is all about uncovering the past. In telling a story like that, it also adds a lot of extra development to Altair from the first game, who may have seemed a bit bland in AC1, but gains a much richer history and background here.

Sorry, I know you didn't ask. Just felt like rambling. I'm in a complete AC "mode" right now. :)

ah just saw people reposting the ones from march and may.

Wonder if it'll get announced leading up to sonic adventure 2 or after. I'm thinking its going to happen though. To be completely honest, I think Jet set Radio is a bit more of a niche thing then shenmue. Think about it, most JSR/JSRF communities are just folded into other ones. Shenmue communities have been born, become popular, lost people, died, and other sites have popped up. I mean shit, the Dojo has been around and active for years. If they've tapped a community significantly smaller then ours for money, it makes sense they'll try and make a dash for our wallets as well.

Re: Now here's a question,

I think to some degree alot of us would be too critical. Especially if its gameplay related, not just graphical style.
Similarly to how true Resident Evil fans prefer the tank controls, puzzles and more survival-horror rather then the now TPS action game.
If they touched the traditional gameplay and reality aspects of Shenmue id be really pissed.
If its just graphics and it's not something drastic like cell shading or anything else way out there, if its just an improvement to look like, for example Heavy Rain or L.A Noire, id live. Id more than live at that.
