Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

I do, and will, hate. Hatred is just as important as love, in my opinion. As long as my hatred is rational, then I can use it to better my judgement. Just as someone might spend their whole life with someone they love, they also spend their whole life avoiding those that they hate.

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

I'm so afraid of dumping more fuel on the ever expanding fire that I've taken to just abstaining from the bickering and the drama as of late. But I must say at this point that I am continually disappointed and dismayed at the threads of community repeatedly and continually being ripped out in the face of increasingly polarized opinions and my way or the high way mentalities and drama. Why can't you all agree to disagree when one view contrasts another? Why can't you all treat each other respectfully and talk out your problems with more compassion for what someone else is feeling or thinking on the subject?

Maybe it's not the Dojo. I see increasing disparity and tense, boiling over stress and anxiety in us or them mentalities and team forming in every facet of our society. Rich versus poor, Democrats versus Republicans, big corporate third party developers and smaller, struggling independent ones. Sometimes I fear our natures will tear each other apart if we don't start expecting better of ourselves.

Have you got a GIF that involves someone leaving a room? I'd like you to post it on my behalf to represent your sense of humour. Or a simple picture of an empty room should suffice. It'd probably be more accurate too.

Re: Things That Made You Laugh Today

Not like it's a sport. Sports are for athletes. Golf is what athletes do when they get old and retire in their late 30's early 40's. Golfer just play til they die. Not retire and play something else. It's the most dull thing around. Esp watching it my god like watching paint dry.

Quite possibly the most narrow-minded statement I've ever read in my entire life.

Perhaps if you left your bedroom once in a while and picked up a golf club, you would realise how difficult this 'sport' is. No, you don't need to be physically fit to play golf, but you sure as hell need to be mentally fit, as well as ridiculously talented. This years Ryder Cup was brilliant, and a great spectacle for the fans.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Online anime communities are serious business. When I saw a set of rules for one of them, I was floored. It's like quantum physics, and they even have their own store and café. Applying to be a member of the staff - which isn't getting paid, obviously - takes an actual résumé, lol.

Re: What Anime are you watching right now?

It's Leiji Matsumoto's movie about the origin of Captain Harlock, a very interesting character, like a baroque pirate in space. Some of you may recall the character made a cameo appearance in Galaxy Express 999 . It's a beautiful, epic movie, with a surprisingly human story. Meiji Matsumoto's space operas evoke a strange combination of awe and adventure, but also a kind of sadness, or the despair that freedom is too difficult for most, as it forces you into the unknown. It's like nothing else I have discovered... except other Leijiverse works. It's drawn in the same unique, flowing style of all his stuff, like Galaxy Express and Starblazers . The musical style is that odd, highly ornamented stuff from the 1970s you hear in such soundtracks as The Castle of Cagliostro .

Also, Spike Speigel is Captain Harlock. If you've seen Cowboy Bebop , then you'll know what I mean once you find Arcadia Of My Youth . I highly recommend it, if you're into that style of anime. Being old, it has a strange aesthetic compared to the bright stuff today. But it's supposed to be grainy, dark, and cavernous. The ending is especially wonderful and sad to me, at the same time.

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

I submitted a question to the 4PlayerPodcast and it got read out on the latest podcast! It's right at 90 mins if you want to hear. My question was:

Are there any games from this current generation that you would consider to be the best in its genre or could even be considered as one of the best games of all time?

I suggested Bayonetta to sort of get the ball rolling and on what they should think of. Nice enough question right? The other guys seemed to think so too, but I had a hunch Brad would have an issue with it because...he's a dickhead.

And I was right! "Best in it's genre, what does that even mean?" Um...exactly what it says Brad, no more, no less. Don't know why he has to over analyse or be pedantic about everything . He tried to defend himself by going on about how games these days sort of blend genres and that my question avoided PC games. It didn't, but I had hoped they would all understand my question was all encompassing for them to include any game released between the launch of the 360/PS3/Wii to now. Besides, his answers of great PC games this gen were FEAR and Half Life 2 . Both great games, just not released in this current gen. Silly Brad. Other answers like Red Dead Redemption or COD4 were answers I could agree with.

Guess I may as well extend the question out to you guys as well. Are there any recent games you've played this gen that you would consider to be one of the greatest ever games?

Re: This Gen is in the twilight so it's time to reflect

My favorite moment for this generation was when S2X was included in the xbox 360 bc update.

My other favorite moments where the Halo 3 midnight release, I skipped the whole line because I knew the guy at gamestop, no one noticed.

Also, I gained experience in reversing some systems during the whole home brewing on next gen.

When I flashed my 360, that's when I had the most fun.

Re: This Gen is in the twilight so it's time to reflect

For me, the 'next-generation' begins with the PS4 and Durango, and the current one will only then start coming to an end. The Wii U is to the PS3 what the Wii was to the PS2 - slightly better graphics, new controls. The new generation does not begin with the Wii U. It doesn't even really begin with the PS4/Durango. It begins when consumers show more interest in the new stuff than the old stuff, and stop buying the old stuff.

I don't know anyone chomping at the bit to get a Wii U, nor to upgrade from their current consoles at all, for that matter. I imagine that for the next two years, it'll be Wii U, PS3 and 360 battling it out with mainly very similar games.

Let's have this topic when it really is time.

Re: This Gen is in the twilight so it's time to reflect

The Wii only 'won' on sales because of blind purchases. Nearly everyone I know owns a Wii, and none of them use it, whilst they're constantly on their PS3s n 360s. Nintendo may (have) pose(d) a threat in the "console war", but as far as games go, they're more likely to be purchased on an Xbox or PlayStation.

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

Same goes for many popular titles these days: solid genre games with adrinaline ridden set pieces that get praise like if they were ground breaking or the works of geniuses.

Just to be clear, I was never making the point that it was innovative or ground breaking in any way. It absolutely isn't, at all. It takes elements from other games and runs with them. I simply think it executes those ideas extremely well, and can't think of another game that necessarily does the same things better .
If it's been glorified by people as something completely original and innovative, then I suppose I can understand others having certain feelings against it. But that still doesn't diminish its ability to incite (in most audiences, at least) an excellent sense of excitement and fun.
That's what I love it for. Not speaking for anyone else.
And I don't generally hold hype against a game as a detractor. If the game weren't hyped at all but were still exactly the same, I don't think anyone would be arguing against it like this.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

^^ I think Dennis Miller's rapidfire-wildly-all-over-the-spectrum-of-human-thought-stream-of-consciousness humor is quite funny. I also like both beards and Bordello of Blood.

As for the debate, I don't have a TV, and don't care that much, really. I'm not apolitical, but I don't think the debates reveal much more than what we all already know. Besides, I long for escape; I am not one of those people who believe paradise is to be found in this world.

The tax issue seems like a trick. If I were running for president, I'd say very clearly that I think the problem with government today is not too much force, or too little, but the improper application thereof. Either they apply too much force where it's not needed, or too little where it desperately is. Ergo, I would abolish most taxes, but use almost the entire amount of the revenue collected to help the poor and the sick, and then use what's left over for reasonable defense. Everything else should be left up to the states. The federal government ought not be the endless moneybag of a continent-sized federation; that is nothing else but institutional bribery on a massive scale, hence our pitiful condition today.

Re: Last Game/System/Peripheral You Bought

That's special.

The first day I bought ZOE2 (which was the very day it came out) I brought it to a friend's house to play it before going to the movies later on. A few other guys were there, and one of them couldn't help but laugh every single time someone said the name "Dingo". And just because he was laughing like that, the rest of us slowly started doing the same thing. Eventually everyone in the room was laughing maniacally while I played the game (myself included) and the name "Dingo" kept being mentioned, and we must have gone on like that for almost an hour.
You'd never see another roomful of people laughing so hard while playing a game unless they were drunk or high, which none of us were. We were just laughing because someone else was.
And it was all over the name "Dingo" for some reason.

Odd memory, but good nostalgia nonetheless. I still smirk a little at the mention of Dingo because of that.

I'm loving Dead Souls. The narrative doesn't make any sense, but it's awesome nonetheless.

I'm happy to see that despite all the opinions I've read, the graphics are actually improved from Y4. The framerate took a hit because of it, but it's perfectly acceptable.

Also, the OST is much better this time around.

MiTT3NZ's advice of turning into a begging worm can make you survive, but surviving like that may be even worse than death. I guess this will be judged in the afterlife, but I really do not condone such low measures just to survive. But whatever! We should just focus on something constructive here. Ryudo, you were helped when you had a similar situation as TDA. Now that you're getting thousands of bucks and spending it on modern electronic toys, can't you help TDA? Pretty much the only thing I agree with you here. And i'd be disappointed, Ryu, if you donate "a little" considering the amount you disclosed publicly, what you intended to spend with it, and the amount that was given to you in the past.

As with TDA's situation, the only thing I can say is exhaust all your good options. Even though he mentioned he was homeless in the past, obviously he posted his current situation here hoping he'd get some help otherwise he wouldn't have bothered. Though it sort of bothers me he said he lied to his girlfriend and landlord about his current situation...which I hope he's not doing here with us.

I can't give out as much as I did in the past but I don't mind doing it when the time comes. Can be put to better use than buying $5 games, $1200 TVs, and $12 movie tickets.

I agree with you Kenny, If anyone ever gave me $500 I would be sure that when/if I ever had it, I would repay the favor in the exact same amount to anyone who needed it. My "savings account" would not see a dime until my life debt was repaid.

As for you TDA I would surely donate to help you. I've worked my ass off to get into a good position in life and I have no problem helping another out. Yes, I may have ton's of debt and things to pay for, but I can skip a weekend of eating out and sell my Resident Evil 6 to help a fella in need :)
