Hi all,

Just wanted to update you all and say that I might have the mod in an alpha state by Xmas Eve.

So far, Ryo is spawnning onto the bike instead of Nayouki's motorcycle.

For now, I have not been successful in implementing the above mentioned method to get the bike unlocked for normal gameplay.

I am working within the very little time I have so its taking forever.

It will be released here first in the form of a hacked iso and special save file.

I am aiming to make it work in both NullDC and official hardware.

Once I have it completely stable, I will upload a video to my youtube channel.

What was the issue with the banana discs? I too was looking to get some for the same reason, but i don't want to if it's not going to pan out. Of course you have to buy a 50 pack and they're pretty pricey. Where you using IMGBurn? I've heard some programs don't support the overburn you need to write it on the disc.

Sorry I can't help much, just looking for some clarification.

Hi All,

I am going to look into making an 80min CDr version of Shenmue 2 Full English Speech Mod without downsampling.

I have a feeling that Sm1th's project could be truncated a bit down to an 80 min CDR.

Big thanks to Sm1th for his awesome work!

Any thoughts?

I dont think the humans file goes under any type of CRC check, so a half assed file should be loaded into memory with no issues.

As for dummy data in the humans file, yeah i think its possible. I believe we can dump the humans file and then re-create it we should be good.

I know there should be a way to do this without even touching the audio files.

Ill be working on this more over the next couple of days and report back.

RELEASE: Shenmue Forklift Mod (Very Messy 0.1Alpha)

Hi Everyone,

As promised, here is my first test release of the Shenmue Forklift Mod.

It will place the forklift race in Dobuita allowing you to drive around.

What works: Forklift in Dobuita
What doesn't work: NPCs, Clipping swap, Unlimited Timer.

NOTE: THIS IS A VERY EARLY BUILD. IT IS MESSY. IT DOES NOT REPRESENT WHERE I AM IN DEVELOPMENT CURRENTLY SO DO NOT HATE ON ME.

Only constructive criticism will be answered.

That being said...

Enjoy the mod. I am currently still working on the mapinfo FORK injections to make a more cleanly developed hack.

How To Use:
Grab a dump of the beta Disc 3 of Shenmue 1. Check the ShenDream release of Beta 0.4

Place D000 contents into /SCENE/03/D000
Compile and boot cdi/MDF/Whatever
With no memory card inserted, use the debug menu and supply the following variables:
CONTINUE = OFF
SCENE = 03
MAP = D000
ENTRY = 99

This will start the forklift race in a broken Dobuita with MA00 clipping.

This only allows you to explore the map during the forklift race. Game becomes unstable after race.

I am releasing this ONLY because certain individuals wanted me to.

I am not in favor of releasing half assed work BUT for this I will make an exception.



How this works.
This is purely just a map swap with a bit of hybrid data injected into the mapinfo file.
So pretty much, it is Dobuita and the forklift map fused into one, with some custom locations for the forklift calls.

BUGS:
* Dobuita and the Harbour assets are loaded together so you will have weird results with the rendered buildings.
* This contains the clipping metadata for the MA00 map so you cant explore too much without further modification of the mapinfo hex representative code.
* If you load entry points related to Mark's Training, the game will crash. Sometimes NullDC crashes when this happens too.


How To Install Mod:

Mot of my stuff is fine. Idiot on the 3rd floor left their water on and fell asleep drunk. The water collapsed the ceiling on the 2nd floor. Water poured out of my ceiling on th 1st floor. All dripped on my copies since they were on the table under the wet spots.

I tore that guy a new one.

Stupid asshole wouldnt even apologize. He was such a dick to me so now I am cracking his wireless to do some man in the middle attacking fun :)

So far:
I made a selfbootable cdi of disc 1 that is only 890 MB.

In my first test, I ripped a lot out just to get the base game.

Ripped:
German, French, and Spanish localization files
Arcade games (wont be ripped in release version, this was for testing)

The next process:

Pull out beta Aberdeen map
Pull out unused character models
Create symbolic links for redundant files and map assets << Not sure if the DC can even handle this.

Those three steps alone should pull the final cdi down to hopefully 80 mins or lower.

If not then we are out of luck :)

I just got them in mail, I popped one into my PC, it says that the space available on it is 96.6Mb. Is this right at all?

EDIT: The CD manufacturer is listed as TDK Corp. the only thing written on the CDs is "90Min"

I managed to burn Project Justice onto it, it's like 726Mb. I'm overburning the disc when it says that there's only 96Mb available, before I test it, how do I know it's doing any damage to the laser, will it just make weird/more noise than it should?

UPDATE: I tested it, I played for 5 minutes and the DC seemed to be making normal noise and didn't heat up at all.
Project Justice played normally and after checking the back of the CD, these can probably store 800mb or more with an overburn, but probably not 900mb. If anybody knows any way to tell if the CDs are damaging the laser, please let me know.
Other wise these CDs are good.

I still have quite a few 99mins layin around for just trying this project out, However I'm unsure how many will get used, mainly depends on how much sm1th wants to chage/update them.

I would suggest making a facebook page for the project, just to try breathing in some more life to it, and see where it goes.

So far I have been more tests that revolve around the process in the video above. Pivoting Ryo into NPCs to adopt their animation cycles.

Its been effective so far but a lot of work still needs to be done to fool the engine into unlocking ALL of Wang's animations and triggers into a mapped player scenario.

Baby steps....

Hi Everyone,

I am proud to release this next mod in my continuing adventure on opening Shenmue for anyone to explore.

I have converted the What's Shenmue Dobuita map to have no clipping or boundaries so that it can be explored without NPCs stopping you.

How it was done:
I spliced the What's Shenmue Dobuita map with the Beta Shenmue Dobuita map.
I removed the clipping from the map using Giorgio's technique and spliced some hex code from Beta Dobuita into it.
I then migrated the What's Shenmue textures and files into Shendream's Beta 0.4 Release.
I then encapsulated all of the textures locally into the map folder that should have been global textures. This was to reduce the difficulty of applying the patch.

How it works:
Download the map files provided.
Put them into any Beta disc in the following directory: SCENE/XX/D000 (For best results, use disc 3!)
Compile the disc with whatever you want (I prefer Bootmake and Binhack32)
Load the map from the debug menu without a VMU inserted.
Continue = OFF
SCENE = XX (Whatever Scene folder you had it in)
MAP = D000
ENTRY = 00

Wude: For teaching me a long time ago about how to swap maps
Shendream: For the beta release
Shengoro86: :mrgreen: For converting the texture files and hex reps to make this work in the Beta release.

What to know:
This is a spliced map. Its not 100% perfectly representing the Whats Shenmue map. Thats impossible with the way it is hacked.
I will actually be making a newer version of this mod that is going to run on Whats Shenmue itself so we have a more accurate map to look at.
You may encounter freezing. Trying to train your moves or buy capsule toys freezes the game.
I will be making a walk-through video shortly detailing the changes.

There are also minor differences to the Hazuki Residence in LanDi Introduction, but since these are stored differently within AFS files and are technically just used as animation cutscene sequences It would be understandable if it wasnt possible but if anyone can figure it out it would be you

lol im already working on this for Version 3, which is in development.

The quick answer is yes to both the intro scene and the beginning. However, the process to get them to work has not been fully tested by myself and may result in crashes. At the least, I could get a freeroam camera in them.

Hello.

I am proud to announce that the Shenmue Exploration Mod has hit version 1.2!

What is it?
This is a mod of Shendream's BETA release of Shenmue 1 Disc 3.
This mod allows you to walk around most areas without clipping. This allows you to walk through walls and most objects.
It also contains playable maps for Dobuita in Whats Shenmue, Beta Yamanose, Beta Sakuragaoka, and Wish Road!

Why?
I made this for my own purpose but I wanted to share it with everyone. I always wanted to go wherever I wanted to when inside of shops and stuff. It was also made as a framework for my upcoming bike mod.

How?
Each mapinfo.bin has been hacked to remove all clipping data.

Who?
The original clipping method was developed by Giorgio.
The beta maps were hacked by Wude.
The Beta itself was released by Shendream.
The grunt work was done by me :)

How do I use it? Just like in the original beta release, you can call these specific maps up with the main debug menu.
For the shops that are closed when you go into them with the menu, just use the 4th player controller debug menu to set the time in the game to a time where the shop is open!

Are there bugs?
Yes! Like all arcane Shenmue hacks, bugs will exist.
-What's Shenmue Dobuita has a soda machine that is fused with the retail soda machine. (This is easily fixed)
-Ryo's House is completely broken and invisible.
-Random textures disappear and pop in when you are walking through walls. (This is normal and cannot be fixed.)

NOTE: You cannot play through this as normal!!!!!! It is disc 3 AND the maps are hacked to the point where the normal game will not flow and cutscenes may not trigger. It is for exploring only!

What can I play it on?
Confirmed working on NullDC, DEmul, Reicast, Chankast, and actual DC hardware via CD-R or GDEMU.

I had lunch with Lisle Wilkerson last week.

Hi Everyone,

Last week, I had arranged a meetup with Lisle Wilkerson (english voice of Joy, Xuying, and Yuan) in New York City.

I brought along my co-admin from Shenmue500K, Norris.

We met up just to hang out, not really for any interviews or anything like that.
I consider her a friend, so I do not want to go down the fanboy route haha.

Was a nice time.

She did tell me some cool things like her inspiration for Xuying was the character Samantha from Sex in the City.

Joy is closest to her voice, so when she laughed it was literally Joy lol.

Lisle is a great person and very fun to talk to.

I hope to see her again soon!

I dunno if I really care anymore. Shenmue was a series that never reached the mainstream. This is a youtube video for the mainstream, and they can think what they want - the fan base is big enough that the game will be made and we'll be happy with it.

The haters will move on to something else, and this will all be forgotten.

I'm so incredibly happy that he hasn't decided to end the series with Shenmue 3. Even if Shenmue 3 does horribly (which I doubt) and we're left on another cliffhanger, that's still preferable to me than a rushed product just so I "know what happens". I don't play Shenmue merely because i'm curious about the story. I play Shenmue because its story is presented brilliantly and I want nothing to compromise that in further games.

How much will you sacrifice to get Shenmue 3 to $10,000,000

Shenmue 3 could not have been announced at a worse time for me seeing how I just built a $1500 gaming PC back in May, I have 4 cavities that need to be filled, I need new glasses soon, and I have a $200 tech certification exam to pay for next week. However in order to fund the $550 dollar pledge I've already made and the additional $500 to $1000 I will drop on this KS before it ends, I have had to result to doing something I told myself I'd only do in case of an emergency; sell part of my video game collection off.

In order to cover my current pledge I don't have to sell off too much, mostly just a few CIB consoles I have and I complete Steel Battalion on XBOX. However to get an additional $500 I am going to have to start selling games off and sadly the first to go will be NES and SNES games because of how valuable a lot of them are. It pains me to do this, but it will pain me more if I let the KS go by without doing all that I can to help the project become Yu Suzuki's ultimate vision of what he wants Shenmue 3 to be.

So what sacrifices have you made or will you make in order to help fund Shenmue and get it to it's $10,000,000 goal?

Shenmue 2 English Dub Mod as .gdi (112min version)?

Is there Shenmue 2 for Sega Dreamcast with English Dub Mod as .gdi file (112min version)?

So, I will have better sound quality.

I'm running on DreamShell with SD Reader.

UPDATE: I found it! This is just .cdi files. But, it's a full 1GB Version just like Original released. I'll post a link right here.

you need the BIOS and you need it in your ROMS folder, unfortunately I cannot provide information where to obtain it.

Demul is a really good Dreamcast emulator, and unlike NullDC it's still being worked on. Although it requires a more powerful PC to run smoothly at this current stage, it's being optimised and more bugs are being fixed with every new release.

Hint: to minimise the sound-distortion bug that happens every now and then, it is recommended to uncheck v-sync in video config settings.

Note: Please don't ask me to provide any SEGA copyrighted files required to run the emulator, Google is your friend.

Please test the emulator and kindly provide your feedback of any bugs/performance issues you may find, especially with Shenmue and Shenmue II. It'd be really helpful if you could also provide a save file at the spot where the bug/glitch happens alongside your bug report.
