A new converter for Shenmue geometry including textures

Hi,

cleaning up the basement I found my old Dreamcast and started to play Shenmue (I never finished it in 2000).
It made me think about the engine and suddenly I was in the middle of writing a reader for the geometry files to export them to a documented format. Using the knowledge already collected I made good progress and I'm ready to give a first preview.

http://spole.cebix.net/TravelAgency.jpg

The prototype exports the MT5 models to a Blender compatible Collada import file (.dae).
All the object hierachy is preserved, it´s possible to move individual coke can, tables, ...
The texture maps are UV mapped and automatically converted to png files.
Right now only triangle strip primitives are supported.
All the objects are exported as opaque using a single material. Further reversing is necessary to handle the materials in the right way. Handling of flat shaded, Gouraud shaded and Gouraud textured objects is also lacking. Transparent and punchthrough texture nearly work.
For the sake of a good screenshot I manually added transparency to the scene.

Some objects are turned on and off depending on the gamestate (Coke can closed/open).

Here are the binaries for Win7 (64bit).
To get things running first download http://spole.cebix.net/Unpacker.exe and http://spole.cebix.net/MT5Converter.exe .
Unpack the PKF and PKS files using 7zip.
Run Unpacker on both files.
Unpacker.exe MPK00.PKF
Unpacker.exe MPK00.PKS
Call MT5Converter on the model file
MT5Converter.exe MAP.MAPM map.dae
Import the map.dae file into Blender and add a camera and lights.

Source will follow as soon as the program is more feature complete and stable.

Enjoy!

Yokosuka Photo Tour

Hey all, I've put together a little photo tour of Ryo's hometown Yokosuka. I spend a little too much time browsing google earth daily, and they have a really interesting feature which shows photos of an area displayed over the map. None of the pics here were taken by me, I've collected them from Panaramio, the website used in this feature, and arranged them in a similar way as presented in the game. The captions I use are my own interpretation of what it looks like and not necessarily what it actually is. Put on some music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1Am9xYC7nk for the walk, & let's take it from the top.

Cheat Codes for NDC, CodeBreaker or Action Replay

These codes will work for nullDC Cheater or Action Replay, on the NTSC version of Shenmue I (all discs) . They won't work on PAL discs, but I'm working on getting some more PAL users. Some codes work only in certain areas, and others seem to work randomly some times and not at others.

If you have any codes you've found yourself, please post them here and I'll add them to the list. You might be able to find codes that do other things by editing some of the existing codes, so good luck on your search! Most codes can be changed by editing the last string of numbers. For example, from 00000001 to 00000002 might cause the code to do something else.

Inventory and Menu Cheats

Money: 01220A38 0000FFFF - (Tens of thousands of Yen)
More money: 01220A39 0000FFFF - (Millions of Yen)

Tokens +: 01220A3C 0000FFAA - (Even more tokens)
Turn off Music : 002303CA 00000000 - (To get this to work, turn on inside haz res, then go into the yard, then go back inside, and then JUMP to Dobuita. After that, all music will stop, including during cutscenes.)
Walkman Continuous Play: 002171FD 00000000 - (Lets you play your walkman while walking around. Great cheat!)

Combat

70 Men Defeated Count: 01225820 00000050 - (Adjust the number of enemies defeated. Can bring out the bosses early. Use 0171BC01 00000050 if this doesn't work.)

Move Mastery: 01225A95 00000003 - (Masters one of your moves so that it changes the animation. Chance to master others.)

Skip all Dialog: 01223E83 000010BC - Makes all dialog pass by in a flash without needing to press any buttons.

* Codes marked with an asterix are still unpredictable, and could use some more research to find better codes, and to nail down exactly what the listed codes do, more predictably.

Most Wanted Codes!

Camera boundary vanishing (stop objects vanishing when they go slightly off camera. True widescreen!)
Ryo model swap
Fuku model swap (swap fuku's model OR fighting style to let us fight with anyone)
Train anywhere (A switch to set the "train here yes/no" dialogue as active)
Hidden raffle prizes (?)
Fast movement (move faster. Or perhaps fight faster?)
Hack NPC spawns (make any NPC spawn in Dobuita, for example)
Jump to location (jump to any specified area when you exit one)
Retro Hazuki residence outside (like it is in the memories custcene, with the falling cherry blossoms)
Passport online menus (fool passport into thinking you're connected to the internet)
Hidden phone numbers (make any call connect to hidden numbers or conversations?)
Endless 70 man battle (enemies re-spawn? Might be impossible)
Switch battle ID numbers (to start any battle you want, possibly?)
Spar with Fuku again and again (should be pretty easy to find)
Stop mandatory bedtime (a code which prevents the auto bed-time and lets you stay up all night)

You can get null DC cheater by searching for it online. This program is in German, however, so you might need to tinker around with it until you get what all the buttons do. You'll also need to rename the cheater .exe file to match the name of you nullDC version .exe. So for example, my nullDC executable is named "nulldc," so I had to rename the cheater to "nulldcCheater." Remember to also click "trainer is aus" to turn it on once you've added the codes. Any further questions, just post here.

Alternatively, all of these will work on CodeBreaker or Action Replay.

RELEASE: What's Shenmue Dobuita with No Clip Mode

NOTE: THIS IS NOW INCLUDED IN THE NEW EXPLORE MOD!
http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=47464

Hi Everyone,

I am proud to release this next mod in my continuing adventure on opening Shenmue for anyone to explore.

I have converted the What's Shenmue Dobuita map to have no clipping or boundaries so that it can be explored without NPCs stopping you.

How it was done:
I spliced the What's Shenmue Dobuita map with the Beta Shenmue Dobuita map.
I removed the clipping from the map using Giorgio's technique and spliced some hex code from Beta Dobuita into it.
I then migrated the What's Shenmue textures and files into Shendream's Beta 0.4 Release.
I then encapsulated all of the textures locally into the map folder that should have been global textures. This was to reduce the difficulty of applying the patch.

How it works:
Download the map files provided.
Put them into any Beta disc in the following directory: SCENE/XX/D000 (For best results, use disc 3!)
Compile the disc with whatever you want (I prefer Bootmake and Binhack32)
Load the map from the debug menu without a VMU inserted.
Continue = OFF
SCENE = XX (Whatever Scene folder you had it in)
MAP = D000
ENTRY = 00

Who to thank:
Giorgio: I used his no clip mode technique
Wude: For teaching me a long time ago about how to swap maps
Shendream: For the beta release
Shengoro86:  For converting the texture files and hex reps to make this work in the Beta release.

What to know:
This is a spliced map. Its not 100% perfectly representing the Whats Shenmue map. Thats impossible with the way it is hacked.
I will actually be making a newer version of this mod that is going to run on Whats Shenmue itself so we have a more accurate map to look at.
You may encounter freezing. Trying to train your moves or buy capsule toys freezes the game.
I will be making a walk-through video shortly detailing the changes.

Enjoy!

OUTDATED: Shenmue Exploration Mod V 1.2 UPDATED

THIS IS NOW OUTDATED. PLEASE USE V 1.3
http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=48928

Hello.

I am proud to announce that the Shenmue Exploration Mod has hit version 1.2!

What is it?
This is a mod of Shendream's BETA release of Shenmue 1 Disc 3.
This mod allows you to walk around most areas without clipping. This allows you to walk through walls and most objects.
It also contains playable maps for Dobuita in Whats Shenmue, Beta Yamanose, Beta Sakuragaoka, and Wish Road!

Why?
I made this for my own purpose but I wanted to share it with everyone. I always wanted to go wherever I wanted to when inside of shops and stuff. It was also made as a framework for my upcoming bike mod.

How?
Each mapinfo.bin has been hacked to remove all clipping data.

Who?
The original clipping method was developed by Giorgio.
The beta maps were hacked by Wude.
The Beta itself was released by Shendream.
The grunt work was done by me :)

Which areas can I free roam?
Here is the list: D000 - Retail Dobuita
JD00 - Retail Sakuragaoka
JD01 - Beta Sakuragaoka
JHD0 - Hazuki Residence
JOMO - Ryo's House
JU00 - Retail Yamanose
JU01 - Beta Yamanose
MFSY - Harbor
MKSG - Old Warehouse District
DYKZ - Nagai Industries
DURN - Lapis Fortune Teller
DTKY - Maeda Barber Shop
DSLT - Slot House
DSLI - Bar Linda
DSKI - Global Travel Agency
DRSA - Russiya China Shop
DRME - Manpukuken Ramen
DPIZ - Bob's Pizzaeria
DKTY - Antique Shop
DKPA - Nana's Karaoke Bar
DJAZ - MJQ Jazz Bar
DGCT - You Arcade
DCHA - Ajiichi
DBYO - Bar Yokosuka
DBHB - Heartbeats Bar
TATQ - Tattoo Parlor
JABE - Abe Store Candy Shop
MKYU - Harbor Lounge
YDB1 - Hazuki Basement
D001 - Wish Road
D002 - What's Shenmue Dobuita NEW TO VERSION 1.2!!!!!!

How do I use it? Just like in the original beta release, you can call these specific maps up with the main debug menu.
For the shops that are closed when you go into them with the menu, just use the 4th player controller debug menu to set the time in the game to a time where the shop is open!

Are there bugs?
Yes! Like all arcane Shenmue hacks, bugs will exist.
-What's Shenmue Dobuita has a soda machine that is fused with the retail soda machine. (This is easily fixed)
-Ryo's House is completely broken and invisible.
-Random textures disappear and pop in when you are walking through walls. (This is normal and cannot be fixed.)

NOTE: You cannot play through this as normal!!!!!! It is disc 3 AND the maps are hacked to the point where the normal game will not flow and cutscenes may not trigger. It is for exploring only!

What can I play it on?
Confirmed working on NullDC, DEmul, Reicast, Chankast, and actual DC hardware via CD-R or GDEMU.

Re: RELEASE: Shenmue Exploration Mod V 1.2 UPDATED

I just had a thought , would it be possible to explore 'Shenhua's Intro' area ??
It would be cool because the area is HUGE!
http://s14.postimg.org/9sb1zp2pr/HUGEINTRO.png

There are also minor differences to the Hazuki Residence in LanDi Introduction, but since these are stored differently within AFS files and are technically just used as animation cutscene sequences It would be understandable if it wasnt possible but if anyone can figure it out it would be you

Thankyou dah'ling
x

lol im already working on this for Version 3, which is in development.

The quick answer is yes to both the intro scene and the beginning. However, the process to get them to work has not been fully tested by myself and may result in crashes. At the least, I could get a freeroam camera in them.

Re: Shenmue, character models, locations etc.

Yes I used 3rd Ripper, you can get "all" the geometry from Shenmue 2 using it, specially with"little" maps like this one. Or Man Mo temple.

It helps that during one of the in game custcenes with Shenfa the camera pans out allowing to capture a huge portion of this map. Anyway I used 8 different rips to complete the surroundings, and the inside house.
Placing Ryo at different positions is key to capture everything.
For example the outer ring(background image) isn't missing geometry like in the shenmue1 maps it is only modeled what will be visible.

Think of any cutscene with camera pans and then you have a great chance of getting an easy rip, as an example, Worker's Pier, The Yellow Building and Dragon Street should be easy to rip too.

The hard part is fixing the geometry proportions and make it fit with the other ripped segments to build the full Map, it is possible but very time consuming.

Re: Shenmue, character models, locations etc.

Thanks reecekun, I managed to make it work, everything is perfectly aligned (take a look at those big boxes)

http://i.imgur.com/vv7KRQ6.jpg

But blender is the shittiest program I've ever used, I hate it too. Also, no matter what if I use blender I lose all the textures, so it is useless to me, because retexturing everything againt takes longer than manually fixing the geometry. ](*,)

Hoping fot the 3DS max script

Re: Shenmue Modding Knowledge

In order to rip NPCs properly I'd like to find a way to spawn them and then freeze their movement completely , so I can rip them from multiple angles and recombine them in 3d.
I just accomplished the first step of what you want/described. Then, it is easy to remove the textures working as a ground/floor underneath the character's model. Optionally, it is also possible to remove the skybox (and make it appear like on the area when you are fighting the 70 Mad Angels, that is a black/void skybox).

In the future, I will provide publicly the modified MAPINFO.BIN of the Area 0000, and also (I'll try to provide) a program (with a GUI) to make the changes, of what model you want to load, automatic.

Before it takes even longer... Here is the modified MAPINFO , for the above mentioned need: https://mega.co.nz/#!WcJSBIBb!QE6WbUClzA3eP6uKn7IOqKTZH3kXxKKZOe35k_m8Wfc - Go to SCENE/01/0000 and replace the old MAPINFO with this one.

Instructions:
//Nozomi Harasaki is used as an example.//
- Change (the 1 reference of) HRSK to the ID of the Character you want to load.
- Change (the 2 references of) NZM_M to the Model Name of that Character.
- Change (the 1 reference of) NZM_F accordingly. The "_F" part means this is a reference for what Face to load.
//Look in the first post for the link to "Characters Names/IDs/Models".//

Notice: It can only load models that their name ends with "_M".

Turn Ryo to the left and you will see the model that has been loaded.

A GUI program may be made in the future, but probably only if a way will also be found to load models that their name ends not with "_M", that is also for models that their name ends with "_L", "_S" et cetera.

Re: Community Projects Random Thoughts

Hey, we never requested it, but thanks for sticking Shenmue Gaiden. :)

Personally, i think the community section is too clustered. I think we need more forums to archive and promote projects/videos/interviews etc properly.

I'd personally have as the following

Shenmue 1
Shenmue 2
Shenmue 3
Community Projects

Other forums

Shenmue Mods (Bike mod, Unreal mod, Isos)
Shenmue Fan games/apps (Shenmue Gaiden, Gang edition rpg, android apps, etc)
Shenmue Podcasts (Axm, James, seganerds, segabits)
Shenmue Events (Monaico, Hyper Japan, Meet ups)
Shenmue Video Series (Adam Koralik, James, External Dragon, HC Gamer, etc)
Shenmue art/renders (Wallpapers, Esspiral, Riken Productions)
Shenmue interviews, etc (David Deville, Gaming media etc, Biscay, Suzuki etc)

That may seem like a lot and maybe it could be compressed more, but the point is it would uncluster all the great content that is lost in the community project section and other shenmue forums. Jame's / Adam koralik's videos are a perfect example of this. Im sure more people would comment and a discussion would form when they release new content, but as soon as their thread gets knocked off the top, it gets lost in the 100's of other shenmue related topics.

Only specific topics continue to get exposure. Shenmue 3 Kickstarter, Shenmue 1080p, Shenmue Gaiden, ISO Threads, etc. Everything should be fully embraced in my opinion. So much great content, but too much congestion to enjoy it all.

I personally would love to visit the dojo, press on a "Shenmue Video series" forum, click on a Adam koralik thread or Shengoro thread and enjoy all their videos in one place, rather than searching the forums for individual pieces of content. Same goes for everything else i mentioned. (interviews, games, mods, Events etc)

It would also make it easier for guests and newcomers to have a more enjoyable experience.

Just my thoughts. Would love to hear you guys opinion on the matter.

RELEASE: Shenmue 2 Explore Mod Disc 4 BETA

Hi all,

Here is the first public release of Disc 4 of my Shenmue 2 Explore Mod.

http://i1159.photobucket.com/albums/p622/shengoro86/cave_zpsdshj8rhq.jpg
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why release a BETA?
To give you all a taste of what is to come.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Areas Playable with No Clip Mode:

-Languishan
-Shenhua's House
-Stone Pit (Cave)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do I use it:

-Grab the save file you need from the save files provided
-Put the save in the NullDC folder
-Boot up CDI
-Launch game
-Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issues:
CDI is oversized. Only use on GDEMU or USB-GDROM on actual hardware
Can possibly crash on a console.
I removed Doors but they are not needed in these areas

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special Thanks:
Bluemue - For the info on the FLDD -> REGD sector
Ilducci - For the tutorial on Shenmue 2 notebook hacking
Giorgio - For giving us no clip in S1
Wude - For showing me how to do explicit mapinfo hacks in Shenmue 2
Sm1th - For making the PAL Eng Speech Discs which I used for this release

IN PROGRESS: Announcement: Shenmue 2 Explore Mod

Hello Everyone.

As some of you may know, last year I began releasing special versions of Shenmue 1 called "Shenmue Exploration Mod".
http://www.shenmuedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=48928

This mod was a solution to my own undying need to see all of the locked away and hidden areas of Shenmue 1 in game.

Thanks to Giorgio, we had a solution to do so, which I then implemented into a full release.

Well today I am happy to announce, with the help of Bluemue's recent post and my own research and development, I am working on a Shenmue 2 Exploration Mod !!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the details and release schedule:

Key Details :
- Dreamcast only (for now)
- Based on the Sm1th 99 min version of Shenmue 2 (CDI)
- Will use an array of save files instead of a debug menu (sadly I could not port the debug menu into Shenmue 2)
- Will work on actual hardware (99 min disc only or GDEMU/USB-GDROM) BUT the target is Emulation ONLY due to hardware overflow issues I saw in my first explore mod.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release Schedule :
**Due to the mass request on Shenmue 500K, I'll do disc 4 first so we can fully explore the cave and Shenhua's house/surrounding area

-Disc 4: Guilin : Mid-November
-Disc 1: Wan Chai : December
-Disc 3 : Kowloon : When it is done
-Disc X : All areas on 1 disc! When it is done, and yes I can actually do this thanks to S2's universal containers :)

This is a LOT more work than my previous explore mod, so bear with me. A lot is going on in my life but I want to get this done.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will update this thread as the releases come out.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special Thanks :
Giorgio : For figuring out the clipping sectors in Shenmue 1. Without this, the original mod would have never happened.
Bluemue : For figuring out the S2 FLDD sectors literally a day before me LOL
Wude : For teaching me how to correctly firefuck map files in Shenmue 2 (miss you dude)
LanDC : For building my interest in Shenmue hacking
Yu Suzuki: For designing Shenmue in such a way that we can do this without breaking the game.

Re: Is there a Charcter Swapping/DiscBooting Shenmue 2 Tutor

I am not trying to make physical discs just CDI images that will run with NULL DC

The original source files are from GDI's that I used jc-gdrom-explorer-v1.6 to extract the core files and ip.bin which works for Shenmue1 but not Shenmue2
If you don't need a CDI, can you just use GDIBuilder then? You provide it with the folder of extracted/modified files, along with track04.raw and track05.raw, it will create track03.bin and track06.bin for you and update a .gdi file if it already exists in the folder. In other words, make a copy of your GDI and use GDIBuilder to overwrite the tracks in the existing GDI.

Yes, it's possible to do what you originally asked (creating a CDI of Shenmue 2 bootable in NULLDC) but it's more complicated than Shenmue 1 because you need data in both the 1st and 2nd session of the disc. I'm not sure if there are any tools that will help you do it all in one step. I can give you complicated instructions that require using 3 different programs and hex editor to build a working CDI manually, but based on your needs it sounds like building a GDI would work fine?

Re: Announcement: Shenmue 2 Explore Mod [In Development]

Languishan is now hacked.

I can't believe how big this area is compared to the others.

Re: Announcement: Shenmue 2 Explore Mod [In Development]

Here is a new video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jijzf4imZU4&feature=youtu.be

Looking forward to this release! I'd do this all myself but it would be just for my own messing around and I'm glad that you take the time to pack this all up in one nice relase. I'd just say it would probably be easier to work on Disc 2 instead of Disc 1 as there are more open areas that Ryo can enter (like Beverly Hills Wharf).

I also captured some Guilin footage with today, with active doors. That's going up soon.

Thanks Blue!
Yep I managed to redo Shenhua's house with active doors but I prefer to just walk through them :P

NullDCCheater codes for Shenmue 1 & 2 [PAL]

Hello everyone. Using the program nullDCCheater I found codes are responsible for the collection of toys, moves, tokens. That will help you gather all of the game to the maximum. Now you can not use any codebreaker and so on.

Re: Shenmue 1 and 2 widescreen hacks Dreamcast

New code to decrease clipping when using widescreen:

Shenmue v1.001 (2000)(Sega)(PAL)(M4)

021EF370---7C1EF400

Big thanks to user Esppiral http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/widescreen-hacks.58620/page-18

edit: Just tested on my dreamcast. The character clipping is gone. The enviroment clipping is decreased by 60-70% I would say.

Re: Shenmue Modding Knowledge

The "Analysis of a simple MAPINFO" really doesnt show me how to edit the co-ordinates of the HRSK item [...]

Here is the relevant excerpt from the analysis:
AKIR

14 00 00 00 = value? or points to offset 108 (from F4-107 there are 3 words...)

7D 00 00 00 = points to Position

49 00 00 00 = Value, of what? (if it's a pointer, it points to offset 145)

00 00 40 C0 = value of position on the X (or maybe Z) axis {signed float value}
00 00 00 00 = value of position on the Y axis [this is the height] {signed float value}
00 00 00 00 = value of position on the Z (or maybe X) axis {signed float value}

This is the logic how to find the values:
- For example, the value (in the MAPINFO file) of the position on the X (or maybe Z) axis, is at offset 0x100 (relative to the start of the file). At offset 0x100-3 you can find 4 bytes: 00 00 40 C0. Also, relative to AKIR's reference offset, that value is at offset 0x10. Therefore, relative to HRSK's reference offset, that value is at offset 0x10 (and, relative to the start of the file, that value is at offset 0x180).

Here is a pictorial representation:
http://s19.postimg.org/bm21ffxab/tempbin.png

The 3 words underlined with red colour are AKIR's co-ordinates. And, the 3 words highlighted with blue colour are HRSK's co-ordinates.

Re: Shenmue Modding Knowledge

I do appreciate peoples help and they will be thanked when my projects are released, Shengoro I dunno what problems youve been having with the community but your motivation should come from helping the 'Legacy Of Shenmue' for Everyone not just for nice comments. A few times now I've mentioned a few things and you have said 'Ive known about that for years' just implies that you are withholding helpful information that could be fun for shenmue fans now.

Hey man sorry. I didn't mean to sound like a dick. I'm just always busy and wrote that too quickly. I apologize as now that I read what I wrote, I sound like a douche lol.

As for the hex editing, yeah it can be kind of crazy at first but it becomes clear once you do it a lot.

A few times now I've mentioned a few things and you have said 'Ive known about that for years' just implies that you are withholding helpful information that could be fun for shenmue fans now.

For a long time, I wasn't updating any of the work I was doing as it was during my primordial days of Shenmue modding. Yeah those comments I make sound shitty. I apologize for that too.

Life hasn't been too kind lately and I have just been a sour dick for the past year. I'll try to be more helpful from here on.

Re: New Unused Models

Really? So what do you want to exchange with me? besides swaping models with capsule toys that is...
Look, I dont want to sound like a prick, but if I said later its because I dont have anything to share now, sorry, I think your sentence its unecessary... besides I already shared alot of information to the community in the past too...

I asked a question , and you ignored it.
Instead of just explaining how you loaded a character from the HUMANS.afs into a blank level using the same method as I have discovered by help from Giorgio for Shenmue 1 as he is the only one who cared enough to help.
http://s19.postimg.org/mv9w54rn7/NOZBOX.png

By simply saying things like 'I wonder if its possible to etc etc' it can give other people ideas and something that starts simply evolves into something cool , by not sharing those thoughts it can stunt the growth of shenmue modding.
I dont have the technical knowlege but in my time I've had some theoretical ideas that have helped others create real tools (TRLE Community) I asked DrkRaziel to make the stereoscopic plugin for NullDC.
In the Shenmue Modding Information we have this little note:
"For more info, please see the secret Bike Mod page, if you have access ;) "

I imagine if their had been a clear database of shenmue modding information from the start we would be futher along by now, and if SiZiOUS hadnt shared his knowlege we wouldnt be anywhere.

I'm sure you have done great things for the shenmue modding community that I have benefitted from but I'm not here to kiss peoples asses, ride peoples coattails or claim anykind of Shenmue Modding Glory, I'm not trying to shame people or be a prick or make people sound like pricks BUT Its been 10 years its time for people to grow up and put their cards on the f**king table, for the sake of the entire shenmue community and future fanbase.

guys guys GUYS calm the heck down.

I am sure MZ didn't mean anything bad. No need to explode. Let's all relax and enjoy the fact that a founding member of the modding community decided to come back and say hello.

@MZ, I am going to modify the humans pointers to put her into the game to check it out. Thank you!!!

By the way, while you were gone, some of us here made a mod site with a lot of information collected. Feel free to check it out!

Hi all,

Here is some footage of BETA Dobuita, which can be found on Disc 1.

I was sitting on this for a while but some people here wanted some transparency on some of the things I am working on.

So here is a video I had recorded and finally released.

Shenmue I & II 16:9 & Black Bars Auto Fixer - Updated

Hello everyone,

Thanks to the great work of dojo members Esppiral , Sappharad and others, we are now able to play Shenmue and Shenmue II in a proper widescreen format and with almost no clipping. Moreover, we are also able to remove the annoying black bars from Shenmue II's cutscenes.

So I made two utilities that can save you time when applying the widescreen/no clipping fixes and also to remove the black bars from "all" the cutscenes in Shenmue II automatically.

The first utility supports the EU version of Shenmue I and Shenmue II

http://i.imgur.com/lHtzAmc.png

The second utility supports What's Shenmue, and the JP version of Shenmue I and Shenmue II

So I made a utility that can save you time when applying the widescreen/no clipping fixes to Shenmue I (game and passport discs) and Shenmue II, and the utility will also remove the black bars from "all" the cutscenes automatically.

The two utilities will work with any version of Demul, and they may also requires the latest version of Cheat Engine to be installed, so it's already included with the utility.

Here's a nice video tutorial on how to use the tool by BlueMue

And another video tutorial by Ziming

Download the utility for EU Shenmue I&II from this link

Download the utility for What's Shenmue and JAP Shenmue I&II from this link

Check the latest Demul build from this link

Please share your comments, suggestions and feedback...
Enjoy.

Shenmue Beta Video - now subtitled

Although this 30-minute VHS video of Shenmue beta footage was released by SEGA back in 1999, as far as I know English subtitles have not been available.

Happily this is no longer the case as I have now completed adding in English subtitles. Even if you have watched it before you may like to enjoy it again!

Re: Help Me to Help You

Actually, on further investigation it seems like the IDs are useful without needing to offset the address at all. I searched for Ryo's ID (converted to hex, then to value) and it came up like 19 times. I did the same for Cathy Wilkins and it came up once. So yeah, this could be interesting. Thanks. :)

[Fangame] Shenmue: The Hazuki Legacy [In Progress]

http://i.imgur.com/ahS6DcI.jpg

The project started out as an idea to blend River City Ransom and Shenmue together. After a while though, the story got too serious to adequately portray in 8-bit graphics, so it evolved into this: a 2D adventure / RPG with QTE, and what I hope will eventually be a fitting homage to Shenmue.

To start with I'm releasing a short(ish) concept game before July of this year, which will act as a demo as well as being a self-contained story, and part of the overall story of the final game. This will be a glimpse into one of the two protagonists, 7th Fleet Officer Cathy Wilkins, as she struggles to uncover a conspiracy involving the Yakuza, the US Navy, and a powerful martial artist smuggling a mythical herb into the city. After the events of the demo she'll be joined by the second protagonist, Fukuhara, whose quest to attain martial arts mastery thrusts him into the same perilous situation as Cathy.

The demo will feature most of the following. The main game will feature the entire list:
⋅  A point & click style adventure system. Pointing and clicking optional (you can use a gamepad or keyboard instead).
⋅  QTE combat system.
⋅  Utilize the Shenmue journal by clicking clues and 'using' them on the environment or people, to investigate.
⋅  Day / Night cycle, and the passing of weeks.
⋅  Magic weather.
⋅  Fully voiced by fans of the series (text optional).
⋅  Collect toy capsules featuring games such as Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Skies of Arcadia.
⋅  Play Darts 777, QTE Champ, and possibly more at the arcade.
⋅  Explore parts of Yokosuka that you never saw in Shenmue 1.
⋅  As Fukuhara, quest to seek out and prove yourself to the four masters of Yokosuka.
⋅  As Fukuhara, you'll eventually be in charge of managing the dojo and helping a master to train students (including Goro).
⋅  Puzzles.
⋅  Meet old and new characters alike.
⋅  Featuring music from both games, unused tracks, and tracks from Shenmue Online.
⋅  To be released on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and HTML5. Eventually, possibly Dreamcast, too.
⋅  Free! Of course.
