Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

Makes sense people wanting to make sure their taxes are spent properly since they work hard for that money. It seems more understandable people being concerned about their healthcare system as that is what looks after them should they get old and ill or just get a disease like cancer.

Then again we can just forget all that shit and get angry about Kojima making another Metal Gear game.

I've talked to Dorian quite a bit and I've discovered the guy has issues. His not accepted in society because sadly he comes from a place that doesn't accept him. He won't admit this bothers him but it clearly does when you hear how he talks about these people. Instead of admitting this he tries to stay proud and has a negative outlook on life feeling that it is the world and the people on it that are the problem and not him.

Re: What TV Series Are You Watching

You magnificent bastard! I've been looking for that cartoon for ages, but couldn't remember what it was called. Seriously, that exact one. I've been referencing the big butt-->big boobs gag as an example of how cartoons were originally for adults, but I could never cite exactly where it was from.
Thank you good sir.

You're welcome! I love quality animation.

I really do love Flip a lot more than Mickey (of course, the top still might be The Sorcerer's Apprentice for me). And it's good that nothing was sacrificed stylistically in Iwerks' independent work (since I love Disney too), but I have to say, in terms of early animation, Ub Iwerks was obviously a huge contributing genius for Disney, so his independent cartoons are just as good as the Disney work he did.

If you watch the "Spooks" Flip episode, the skeleton style is just like Iwerks' Disney short "Skeleton Dance."

Somehow, I just think a frog is inherently funnier than a mouse, especially the streamlined design (more than the original Flip the Frog design from "Fiddlesticks" - he goes through a simplification much like Mickey Mouse did). I guess it's because a Frog seems more squash-and-stretchable than a mouse.

Here is the "Spooks" episode. I love this one. I think probably everyone has seen Disney's "Skeleton Dance."

It's been engineered by the ontological priesthood, like everything else that constitutes the so-called human civilization. The mob is just fighting wars for them while being given the illusion of freedom. Our freedom's a joke, we're just taking a piss . Every time somebody takes pride in 'inventions' of humanity, I can't help to think of the sacrifices that every 'invention' requires, of how many people have to get fucked over for it, how the sands of time bury the truth while liars write their passages for the cattle to chew on. But hey, that's just me. You're free to 'make the world a better place'. It's very American-like.

I think it's funny when people on the internet say how bad their countries are, typing it out via their laptop, smartphone, or other technological device in a spot that some's likely to have died in to protect said country.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the planet, flies feast on the face of a four year old's corpse. But yeah, our countries are beyond repair. We're too far gone. We'll be fucking savages soon.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

You guys are either retarded or former bully victims. Kids with gay parents = constant and easy target. Bullyin the likes of poor kids is situation specific, bullyin Muslims isn't likely to have as much effect due to the chances of there being much more than one at the school, kids with difficulties are usually in 'special' classes and generally don't interact with everyone else as they have different schedules.

Kids with gay parents though... How many does anyone here know? Chances are, they'd be the only one at their school who has, as it'll take a good few generations before there's a large enough number of them.

I don't care what anyone says, it's flat out unfair on the child. You can argue the fuck all you want about gay people having rights n shit, fair enough, I don't have a problem with that, but kids? You can't honestly condemn one to an absolute certainty of constant bullying throughout their childhood. Peeps say every kid gets bullied anyway, and that's bullshit. Only bully victims say that.

I usually joke about and say that anyone who opposes my opinion is automatically wrong, but in this case it's true, and if you think otherwise, then you really need to re-evaluate your bedroom level knowledge of society and social hierarchy.

Seriously, some of the self-righteous bullshit on the internet about how socially inept idiots reckon the world should be is flat out ridiculous, and is really startin to grind my fucking gears.

Actually when I was teaching I had a fair number or children being raised by gay couples. For the most part I haven't seen much bullying, but homosexuality is mostly accepted here. Even so, saying gay people shouldn't have kids, because those kids will be bullied is like saying women who get raped were asking for it by being women. No matter how many people try to accept it, its not right. Also depending on the household, it could be the best thing to ever happen to a child that was born from a druggie and a rapist, or through incest. Allowing responsible adults raise a child should never be an issue and in my experience hasn't been.

Beyond that, I have been bullied for being a short, bisexual, nerd, Carib with light skin. I got bullied because I was smaller, and because I was "gay", and because of my hobbies, and snooty white kids hated me for being an "injun" while dumb black kids called me a "honky". Even so I don't think I'd ever change it, I wasn't a victim, I took what happened and let it make me stronger. The biggest thing I got out of it is that I stopped caring about what I thought the world should be, and started caring about what I think it is. Understanding hardship allows a person to speak from experience, granted its important to stay objective and fix the problem, it is not an automatic detractor from a person's input, they may still be able to see the situation rationally and be able to do good.

If I let social norms dictate how I live my life, I'd have let that Spaniard prick beat me to death in Condado. I resist the things I see as wrong not only for my own sake but for those around me.

at the end of the day, you can say I'm wrong, but I've dealt with these issues first hand, and seen good come of it, I've got experience.

Of course he does. The same way people knew desegregating the army was going to break down cohesion in the unit/be the harbinger of our destruction. The same way people knew allowing gays to enlist openly in her majesty's royal army and years later in the US army was going to break down cohesion in the unit/be the harbinger of our destruction. The same way people knew allowing gays to marry, have the same rights as everyone else and even adopt children was going to be a disaster when it went down in Britain. There really isn't any need for any of us to debate further. Trying to convince Mittens otherwise may as well be as successful as trying to convince Dorian to adopt a chipper attitude towards life. :P

Re: Shenmue in CryEngine

When I talked about the modelling in Shenmue, I was all along talking about it from the art perspective, which you idiotically shifted to a pathetically shallow discussion about technicals. It's people like you that make generic PC games that are buried under the sands of time because that's how "far" shallow people can get their "vision".

Pretty damn ignorant that man. First off, not every game is designed with the intention of being an artistic masterpiece. In a lot of cases, time and budget restrictions mean that the main focus is - and should be - the gameplay. Everything else follows.

And besides this, "people like [SC]" are there for the technicals. That's their job. Pointing the finger at these guys doesn't make sense, because what you deem as the qualities of a shallow game is actually the fault of either the lead designer, or the guys who do the textures. The 3D modellers are brought in to do just that - create 3D models.

You've blatantly got rather limited knowledge on the whole process of making a video game, and you're just a boring version of KiBa who injects little to no comedic element into any post.

My views can seem like total shit to you and it won't bother me since the way you tried to refute my claims is entirely biased because you totally ignore the fact that south acts like a prima ballerina assoluta of every possible aspect of video game designing.

But you ignore the fact that you act like a prima ballerina assoluta of every possible aspect of a video game period . Look at your posts since you have returned here. The MGS topic, the Final Fantasy topic for example. When someone debates with you, you belittle them with what i can only call an attempt at trying to appear as more intellectual than that person, going as far to post quotes from philosophers which vaguely relate to some point you are trying to make, but because they are so vague, they can easily be flipped around to go against what you are saying. Try and be a bit more user friendly around here, because to be honest, your getting on like a 13 year old emo kid who has listened to way too much Radiohead.

Re: RPG's( NOT Falcom,Square,Bethesda,Bioware)

How does that answer about tilt shift angles?

Because it was basically impossible before then. The Last Remnant has a ton of the same kinds of shots from LO. for exmple theres a point where the antagonist grabs the protagonist by the neck and tosses him. During the toss the camera is zoomed out but when the protagonist crashes and chaos starts to take over the battlefield the game is in a 3/4 dutch even when gameplay starts because the protagonist is still f'ed up.

So the reason you see it a lot in mistwalker games is twofold, first they introduced the idea when it comes to modern RPGs so its a bit more obvious because for the past decade cutscenes haven't been able to have such a dynamic camera, and second I think they just plain like it, since its in LO and TLS.

Re: RPG's( NOT Falcom,Square,Bethesda,Bioware)

Well Lost Odyssey was the first RPG to use the Unreal Engine 3.

To back up, the engine is great and bad all at once. It allows for a lot of really great effects like multilayered particles and textures and a bunch of other effects and even a ton of AI related options. The biggest problem though is that performance isn't the focus, because of this UE3 (and any game made using a UE) will have framerate and buffering issues.

Using UE was kind of a mixed bag, on the one hand the game was going to take a hit in its speed, and was prone to errors and bugs. The pros did outweigh the cons though, making the game would be faster and cheaper and the cinematics would be woven into the game more efficiently.

RPGs always had their cinematic moments, but this was different. instead of setting down the controller and watching a cutscene play out that had visuals that drastically differed from the main game, Mistwalker could create animations that flowed directly into gameplay, and experiment more with the angles and filters in a real time environment.

To put it bluntly, Lost Odyssey used an engine that was never meant for its playstyle and despite it's rough edges was able to prove that companies that made RPGs could build large AAA engines. Square-Enix tried this approach and after releasing The Last Remnant began work on what was then called the white engine. Tri-Ace created the Undiscovery Engine.

Sadly it seems like most studios are missing the point. Packing the disk full with more CG, placing the camera too close or too far to action, and spending too much time on refining the engine then actually using it to create games. Lost Odyssey still introduced a great idea to gaming that could one day help RPGs return to a golden age.
