Have you thought about changing the name for this? I mean "Gaiden", that's kinda like "Revelations", "Legends", etc. - generic videogame cliche titles that don't really say much and are used over and over again. It's a bad title in my opinion. Might be something to consider if this ever gets off the ground again..

Fair point. Im pretty good at certain things, but one thing i've always sucked at is names and titles. I think its an area that i probably need to focus more on and develop.

I like the Gaiden name. it's easy to remember and rolls off the tongue.....and yeah i guess it is cliche. if you have any suggestions, im all ears, but im fairly certain that the project and all other visual novels will most likely fall under the gaiden name.

Really hoping for a delay. Shenmue 3 should defiantly not launch with all those massive titles. Add Fifa, assassins creed, COD, etc to the list aswell. While its not directly competing in terms of genre, Shenmue 3 could easily get lost with so many games. Red dead 2 will have all the attention.

Release Shenmue 3 next year in a quiet month so its the main focus in gaming and can have the maximum impact for sales, exposure and what not.

Im still waging on an announcement at E3 with an instant release after showing off a Shenmue 3 trailer.

Last night's stream was AWESOME!!! I only stopped by for 5 minutes but ended up staying till the end due to Peter's determination to conquer Space harrier. It was EPIC!!!

Had to get an extra strong coffee this morning for work though, as i was running on 3 hours sleep lol. Oh well. it was well worth it. The entertainment was phenomenal.

I've always believed Shenmue 3 would be shown at this years E3 with an instant release of Shenmue HD. It just makes sense in terms of impact and sales for Shenmue HD.

There's no way this game is coming out in December.

Personally, I don't like the new character model. it reminds me of Overwatch, which i love, but i guess i wanted something similar to the Yakuza models for Shenmue 3.

Go easy fellas, its the first model they've shown us. Im sure the final product will look much better, especially when they hear the mixed feedback. It worked for king of fighters xiv and they're basically a budget company.

To darksniper's point, I myself have always thought that Shenmue 3 would have similar models to Yakuza as that appeared to be the direction and natural progression for the series. Shenmue Online's cut scenes basically had the same detail as Yakuza models. While it was a cut scene back then, creating a model of that caliber in 2017 shouldn't be too hard i hope.

They seem very similar in my opinion.

Regardless, we should all remember, this is a budget game, so we can't expect AAA models. We knew this going into the kickstarter.

Im not fond of the new model, but im going to wait until they reveal the game properly to make a proper judgment.

Oddly enough, i actually enjoyed Ryo's initial model lol. Well at least from this angle anyway.

Would be lovely if Sega jumped in to help with development, but we all know that isn't going to happen.

All we can do is wait. Its in all of our nature to rip apart and speculate on every bit of Shenmue info that is released, and to be honest, we're all probably overthinking everything.

Yu Suzuki is the man who has made some of the best character models during his time. Im sure it will be ok in the end.

Let's wait for a proper reveal ppl. Remember, if this was a fully published game by Sega, Sony or whoever, we wouldnt even be seeing these premodels or prebackgrounds. We would just see the finished product. Its only because we're Kickstarter backers why we have access to all of this.

This forum is for an open discussion on Shenmue 3. All opinions are valid. Positive, negative, etc. You can agree with someones opinion or disagree with their opinion. Its all good. But for the love of Lan Di, do not go down that road where you start mildly attacking each other. That's when it turns toxic.

This guy has done so much for the community,from interviews, podcasts, lets plays, updates etc and now his show is apparently no longer being promoted on 500k due to him having a different opinion. (He doesn't like the new model either or current practices, but thinks everyone should wait until a full reveal is shown)

He's now left the Shenmue500K community due to this nonsense.

Why on earth is it so hard for people to accept another perspective or take criticism?? Are we not fully grown men/women? Or are we school children throwing temper tantrums at everything that doesn't conform to our own view or the group view?

I sincerely hope for the future of this community that there's more to this story. If you can't take criticism from your own fanbase, then good luck to when Shenmue is back in the mainstream.

Ryo is getting there. Just need to fix the hair and the face slightly. Shenhua looks like a npc. We're getting there though and we're still a long way from release. Lets see how it plays out in motion.

The environments are amazing and i think at this point, we have a thousand different logos lol.

Absolutely love it. The environments are spectacular. I cant wait to explore them. Music is phenomenal as always and the fighting animations look super solid and smooth. So happy and hyped right now. Shenmue is back!!!!

That said, the character models need major work. Facial animations are missing. Shenhua doesnt look right and her outfit is seriously lacking in detail, colour and texture.

Ryo looks alot younger than he actually is, but he looks miles better than Shenhua. The logo also needs to be addressed since they told us they were going with the old style last month.

Its all good though, a very nice first trailer and im sure everything is going to be worked on from here on out.

I welcome all the feedback on neogaf and youtube. It lets suzuki and co know what they need to work on going forward. Chances are they know what needs to be done and are at it already.

Constructive criticism is always a good thing, so all the "negative" feedback will be good and lead to a better game in the long run when it finally ships.

Those saying this game should stay dead can fuk themselves though.

I hope they give Shenhua her original outfit and hat back. The current version doesn't look great. The hat is too big and the outfit is very generic and bland, with one shade of color.

The general negative shenmue teaser response is typical internet hysteria. I left a detailed post on gaf about the current situation, which basically explained everything in detail from every possible perspective. Alot of ppl understood it when it was broken down for them. However ive learned over the last two days the following.

1) ALOT of people do not understand nuance
information.

2) a good majority will comform to the group think of the discussion and jump on the trending bandwagon (no facial animations. Its the end of the world.....)

3) There is so much over sensitivity with ppl these days. They get triggered and outraged about anything.

4) ignorant trolls who want to shout the game down no matter what (yakuza is better so shenmue should just die. I hope it fails etc etc etc).

If someone is not sure and seeks and answer. No problem. But when you get the answer over and over again and you continue to be a dick, then there's an issue.

The biggest shock for me was neogaf. The biggest gaming forum on the net which should understand all the nuances in gaming development and such. Nope not a chance.

Since his reveal, it seems Ys net are really pushing Mr Muscles in Shenmue 3. He was solely featured in a kickstarter update video and we now see him battling Ryo twice on two separate occasions in the latest Shenmue 3 trailer.

A new entry in the Shenmue Gaiden series will be coming out on the 28th of December 2017. I wanted to get it out on the 25th, but family commitments and working in the health service over Christmas didn't allow it to be.

The new entry is much bigger and better.

Hey Shenmue community,

Today, i bring you the latest instalment from the Shenmue Gaiden series. This chapter was suppose to be released during the Christmas holiday. However, personal commitments along with my job didn't allow me to finish the project on time. :(

I decided to still release the game however as the alternative would be to wait until Christmas 2018. Fortunately, this is the year of Shenmue, so hopefully, this is the first game of many to come out in 2018

If you enjoyed the first Shenmue Gaiden Christmas game, chances are you're going love this one. I really wanted this game to over deliver in terms of value. Therefore, it has a ton of fighting, tons of character interactions, tons of cameo/random appearances, toy capsules, tomato stores and much more.

Play time is around 2 hours and 30 minutes . There's alot of story and text in this game. I recommend everyone take breaks in between days, especially if you're not use to reading so much text. (I took several breaks personally lol). Alternatively, use the save function and come back to it later.

Keep in mind, this game is very light-hearted and fun game and is not suppose to be taken seriously at all. You'll probably realise this once you see the cameos and how events play out. Sit back, enjoy and have a great time.

The festive season is finally upon us and you've been invited to spend the next four days in Dobuita at Hazuki residence. This enjoyment doesn't last long however as Christmas is thrown into complete chaos. Scrooge is back and is now in possession of two important Shenmue items. He also has an army of fighters at his disposal. It's up to you and Santa to recruit a team of capable individuals to confront Scrooge and save Christmas once and for all

A new threat lurks in the shadows and is said to be the strongest fighter of them all.

There is a 3rd threat in the game other than Scrooge and his henchman. This threat promises to destroy Christmas once and for all.

Like the last game, YOU are the player. Once you arrive in Dobuita, the game will ask you to enter your name. From that point on, all NPCS and character will refer to you by your actual name.

I strongly recommend you enter your proper name here or whatever nickname you like to be called in real life. By doing so, the game will feel much more personal as you interact with the characters and progress through the story.

Dynamic Choices

The previous Shenmue Gaiden entry had choices in its dialog. However, the responses were very similar regardless of what you chose. This new entry has around 80% choice variation in its responses. That means you can play through the game entirely as a nice guy or bad guy or somewhere in between. This should hopefully spice things up and make replay ability more enjoyable.

How To Install The Game

1) First install the Arlrdbd font. Download here http://www.fontsupply.com/fonts/A/Arlrdbd.html
Unzip font

Windows XP Font Install:
Drag arlrdbd.ttf into C:\Windows\Fonts - The font will automatically install.

- Windows 7/Vista/Windows 10 Font Install:
Right click arlrdbd.ttf and then click "Install".

Bugs / Glitches
Due to a limited amount of time, i was unable to address all the bugs and glitches in the game. I'll fix them with a patch down the road. In the mean time, you may run into the following issues.

Sound Issues - At certain points of the game, the sound will lower or get higher. If this happens, raise the volume on your speaker or adjust the sound in the options menu (right click). Tends to happen on the 4th day.

Menus - Some menu buttons are not functioning as they should. Will be updated at a later date.

Adjust how you see fit.

SCREEN RESOLUTION (VERY IMPORTANT)
This game was created with a screen resolution of 1920 width and 1080 height. The game should look like the following screen shot. If it looks stretch or out of place, you may have to adjust you monitor's screen resolution. You can do this by right clicking on the desktop and pressing screen resolution. (Set resolution to 1920 * 1080).

Do not skip transitions or click at a fast pace due to impatience. The game has a deliberate pace. At some points you may think the game is hanging or taking long to load. If this happens, an event is about to occur. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Also play in full screen.

Other issues

I need to clean up some of the portraits, adjust the voice clips to sound more consistent and not super loud.

I also left some save files in the game. Dont load them if you have not already finished the game
If you come across any other issues, please let me know

i'll be applying various patches over the coming weeks to address the sound issues. I also want to try and shorten some segments as some parts of the game can drag on. More voice clips will also be added.

Bit of a silly topic, but i wanted to see if any of you were thinking the samething.

I plan on booking a week off work when Shenmue HD drops to fully enjoy the experience without any distractions. I also plan on booking a week off LIFE when Shenmue 3 gets released, but thats another story lol.
