Just for fun I thought I'd google that phrase.

Would you believe it's seldom used in a positive tone?

Re: Sega - "actively pursuing" a Shenmue remaster.

There shouldn't really be any confusion over the "not not working on it" quote.

He's explaining that while it isn't a game that's currently planned for release, to describe the situation as one they're not working on would be inaccurate.

- ie, remasters not being in development is a problem they're trying to solve, "so don't go thinking it isn't."

Re: Sega - "actively pursuing" a Shenmue remaster.

Because until they actually resolve those complicated license issues, there's no game - and that will be the only proof they ever really tried.

Only around 20% of the music already produced for the series has been used so far, and Ryuji Iuchi is on board producing more.

Re: Shenmue III @Gamescom '17 Discussion - That's All, Folks

Well catching up on this thread for the first time in over a week has been quite the trip. :)

Just two subjects I want to comment on:

I really love the idea of pinball machines for mini-games. I don't care how faithful they are to the region or period - I suspect there'll be some compromise there for the sake of prioritising fun. But it's a great opportunity to shoehorn in a little fan service, throwing in references to duck racing, etc, on the table and perhaps even incorporating QTEs for bonuses. Bags of potential here to kill many birds with one stone, if they choose to go that route.

Regarding phone calls, I imagine the backers who chose this reward on Kickstarter will still receive exclusive conversations with the characters, while most players will only have those crucial to understanding the plot so far.

Re: Pick where Deep Silver sends Yu Suzuki & Shenmue 3 in 20

Talk around here of 2019 makes me glad that most backers will have been fully grown adults. Imagine paying for a cool-sounding video game when you were 16 and not being able to play it till you were 20-21.

Re: Gameblog interview with Yu Suzuki @Gamescom

Y'know what, I think I may have misunderstood what ShenmueLegacy meant by "open sourced for feedback."

What was actually meant was probably "crowd sourcing feedback," rather than what originally came to mind which was allowing fans to poke through the game code...

I can't imagine anything the devs want less than 200 bedroom coders telling them why their algorithms are poorly designed. They get it bad enough from self-assured photoshoppers.

Re: Random Shenmue III Thoughts

I'd speculate that, following the Deep Silver deal, those few additional $29/$60 donations aren't really needed for boosting development, so you'll probably accomplish more for the game by purchasing through conventional channels on release, thereby contributing to official sales figures that will help determine the future of the series.

But Peter, I have Photoshop and can squidge in one dimension a flat screenshot of a 3D model they're still working on. Surely you concede I can do a better job at making Shenmue 3?

Re: New Ryo & Shenhua models from press release

Meh, I had a response typed out but it's a worthless exercise. Have all the opinions you want, I'm just glad I've heard it in more than multiple occasions that Suzuki-san won't be deterred in his vision and level of quality of Shenmue 3 he wants, and that no one will make him change his mind. He won't be reading message boards or social media to see what every Joe nobody wants in this game or that they think is "good" or "bad" in their treasured opinion. ´

Source? :) edit, just a quick google search.

YS: I think we have to make the game so that they can. I'd like to have someone who has never played them to try it and listen to their feedback. I think we will need to fix up any parts that have strong drawbacks.

http://www.phantomriverstone.com/2017/08/translation-interview-with-yu-suzuki.html

...and thats the right way do it imo.

You're quoting Suzuki on an entirely different subject. The question in that interview - as can be clearly surmised from the answer - is about new players being able to jump in without any experience of the first two games. Testing the game's accessibility on newcomers has no relevance to what Peter said in the context of this discussion.

Re: Yu Suzuki talks about Shenmue 3 and memories

I would take that quote with a considerable pinch of salt, considering it was likely given at the same time as many other interviews in which he was prompting fans to ask Sega for Shenmue 1 & 2.

We must remember that not all journalists at Gamescom had their own Switch waiting in the wings to translate recordings of Yu's exact words.

Re: Yu Suzuki talks about Shenmue 3 and memories

In other interviews at Gamescom he raised the matter of minigames/distractions in Shenmue 1 & 2 feeling disconnected from the rest of the game, so in Shenmue 3 he wants to tie everything together to give such elements more relevance and make them feel part of the same, interconnected world. This may be what he was referring to in this one too.

Re: Kickstarter Update #74 - Gamescom Travelogue

It's a standard means to cover themselves if the company making the capsule toys goes bust, etc. Nothing's guaranteed with any Kickstarter project, as there's always the possibility of unforeseen circumstances cropping up, but they'll do everything you would expect within their power to fulfil the rewards.

Re: Why isn't Sega funding Shenmue III?

Oh. I have just realised that the creator of this thread is Shenmue_Legend. The same person who is pestering millionaires and billionaires on twitter to give money to the project for nothing in return.

Whatever gives you that impression?

I mean, they're worth way over a billion dollars so the amount required to get Shenmue III fully funded should basically be nothing compared to what they're worth, right?

So what about Shenmue III then Sega? Just $50M. I mean that's nothing compared to what you're worth and compared to the good that it'll do.

My idea currently is that we contact some celebrities such as Bill Gates and ask them for a donation. I mean, even $50M would be nothing to someone like Bill Gates!

@BillGates Hi Bill please donate $50M to Shenmue III.

Clearly two very different people.

Besides, he denies it in this thread , and obviously wouldn't lie to us, so I think you owe our falsely accused friend an apology...

Why would/should he face backlash for parroting the established release date? At present time, the game is due in 2018. If that changes, it doesn't make him a liar.

Considering that most people's objections to Shenmue_Legend's tweets is that they're embarrassing for the fan base (and potentially the game/developers by association), I'm not sure how this was supposed to help, sutoji.

It's a poorly programmed bot. Its designer picked up on Shenmue as a hot keyword and it just trawls for others to compose random tweets that might get it noticed and followed, presumably by people with a terrible grasp of English.

Re: Random Shenmue III Thoughts

Is it? I guess if there's already a discussion thread on the go by the time the news is posted then that would make sense, and there'd be a link within the news post to that thread. But I can't see that being the case if it's the first and only thread on the subject.

Anyway, I was mainly pointing to it for anyone who hadn't read the interview and would therefore want to know the context behind darksniper's comment.

Thank you for what you've done for the site Yama, both in the last few years and today. From what I gather you came along at the time time for the Dojo, and you've continued to make good choices during this handover. The community here owes you a lot.

Congratulations Peter, the future is bright for the Internet's longest running Shenmue fan site and I'm sure you'll have everyone's support in doing what needs to be done. :)
