Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition, I actually have one of these already but for £3 I picked it up as a double. It comes with everything; the art book, mouse mat, making of DVD, soundtrack on CD, and the trading cards, one of which was an unused redeemable prize in-game.

Bought this for £3, it's 100% working (in my experience Nintendo hardware is pretty bulletproof) and I'm sure the game is probably worth more than that alone.

Re: Studying Abroad in London

Becks is bloody everywhere, I find. It's hard to get away from the geez. He's either on some chatshow or at some event that makes it's way onto the news, or is sticking his groin in my face with all those underwear adverts. He also seems to have a "collaboration range" with about 100 different clothing manufacturer's. Oh, and he also has some scent they were recently advertising on TV. I literally can't escape him. It's starting to make me a bit mad, and I sometimes have a "Becks breakdown" in which I start hallucinating everyone to all have David Beckham's face.

I used to know a lot of people who liked the same games as me, but they got all boring and spent more time getting drunk and high. Even when I'm working I generally find people who play sports games and shooters. Thankfully my partner, my roommate and my girlfriend all play the same kinds of games as me.

Makes sense people wanting to make sure their taxes are spent properly since they work hard for that money. It seems more understandable people being concerned about their healthcare system as that is what looks after them should they get old and ill or just get a disease like cancer.

Then again we can just forget all that shit and get angry about Kojima making another Metal Gear game.

Re: Random Thoughts! v2.0

But like the Gulf War, it's not the final word. Now, allow me shock and awe you. The problem with gay marriage is that it's being forced on communities that want to define marriage themselves, as has always been the right of free people: to make their society the way they want. Even people who support gay marriage attempt to organize displays of democratic force to impress the world, thereby undermining their cause, if it turns out a majority of people still oppose it. Then they get a sympathetic judge to overrule the majority. Well, obviously that just breeds more resentment, and rightly so. That has been the history of this stupid, false, and divisive battle since the beginning, at least in the United States. And now our unwise leaders want to make it worse by trying to force such decisions from the top, and enforce one way of life throughout all the states and territories. Only naive people could want this - people who think you can force what you think is right on people who believe it to be wrong. Look at the long-term destruction and hatred caused by the last U.S. Civil War. That's still not over. Was it worth it? Well, keeping the Union together was worth it, and the South needlessly rebelled, as Lincoln would not have freed the slaves because of all the reasons I just mentioned. Imagine a different world that realized that not every group of people would ever agree on everything, nonetheless respected the right of groups to run things the way they want, and all sides respect territories in which anyone could live who they'd like, among the kind of people they prefer. That is sanity. That could have been a very different history where slaves could have been freed without bloodshed, the South wouldn't have been devastated, and millions of their happy descendants would be alive today. The alternative was and is forcing billions of people who fundamentally disagree with each other to obey the precepts of only one group. That is wrong and it's impossible. Nobody ought to face an inquisition to justify their beliefs in logical terms, when it is obvious that no moral beliefs are rational. Almost every value any person holds dear is completely irrational. That doesn't make them wrong, anymore than not being able to logically explain why revenge is wrong would necessarily make certain kinds of murder legal in modern Western nations. In fact, I'd wager most people think revenge is right in most circumstances. But if you try to explain something as simple as why you love your mother, you'll probably miserably fail in the attempt, or utter some obvious facts or common sentiments that do not logically explain why you do what you do. So, stop pretending that it's rational to support this or that social movement, and anyone who can't explain their opposition is an irrational moron. People shouldn't have to explain what they feel, and if they're wrong, you shouldn't force them to change, as if you know better what's right. Oh, you can think you've won by getting a mere law changed on paper, but no one has any power over the hearts of individuals, but individuals themselves. And if you're seriously naive enough to think that humanity or the world can be perfected, you've entirely missed the point of reality. If nature hasn't taught you the truth already, let me enlighten you: this life, this universe, is the place where nobody gets what they want. This is the place where we survive what we don't want. The whole of nature is fundamentally ordered to this test. So stop being a pussy, and leave your fellow bastards alone. Life is too fragile and short, and experience too effective a teacher, to indulge in the fantasy that just one more law, one more social protest, will magically transform this infinite space into your own personal paradise - a sparkling new world where the countless billions who are just like you will suddenly and inextricably harmonize with all your hopes and aspirations like a flashmob. Get real. Talk about the Himalayan summit of self-centeredness. Only hardcore intense spoiled brats think this way, which is why you usually only find such wankery among the richest nations.

That brick wall was supposed to enlighten you, but don't worry since it fails at doing it. Kiba uses the deceitful Aristotle's logic all the time so it's not worth shitting your panites over. In this case, he also completely ignores the fact that he is against something that he himself does all the time to others (as a part of those 'communities' he advocates so strongly for that his nipples go all wild).

Re: Shenmue in CryEngine

Dorian vs SC

SC: Dorian's saying you're more a designer than an artist, and textures are more on the artistic side of things.

Dorian: Yeah, SC's talking from the viewpoint of a designer, but you don't actually know whether or not he's good with textures. Your opinion's based more on his philospohy than his skills.

Re: Shenmue in CryEngine

When I talked about the modelling in Shenmue, I was all along talking about it from the art perspective, which you idiotically shifted to a pathetically shallow discussion about technicals. It's people like you that make generic PC games that are buried under the sands of time because that's how "far" shallow people can get their "vision".

Pretty damn ignorant that man. First off, not every game is designed with the intention of being an artistic masterpiece. In a lot of cases, time and budget restrictions mean that the main focus is - and should be - the gameplay. Everything else follows.

And besides this, "people like [SC]" are there for the technicals. That's their job. Pointing the finger at these guys doesn't make sense, because what you deem as the qualities of a shallow game is actually the fault of either the lead designer, or the guys who do the textures. The 3D modellers are brought in to do just that - create 3D models.

You've blatantly got rather limited knowledge on the whole process of making a video game, and you're just a boring version of KiBa who injects little to no comedic element into any post.

But you ignore the fact that you act like a prima ballerina assoluta of every possible aspect of a video game period . Look at your posts since you have returned here. The MGS topic, the Final Fantasy topic for example. When someone debates with you, you belittle them with what i can only call an attempt at trying to appear as more intellectual than that person, going as far to post quotes from philosophers which vaguely relate to some point you are trying to make, but because they are so vague, they can easily be flipped around to go against what you are saying. Try and be a bit more user friendly around here, because to be honest, your getting on like a 13 year old emo kid who has listened to way too much Radiohead.

Re: Shenmue in CryEngine

Is English your second language? He was saying these things:

- The models in Shenmue are relatively basic shapes.
- The textures used in Shenmue are what give the models life.

This is true in every video game. A wooden textures table is going to look better than just a straight-up brown table. He didn't talk about every aspect of Shenmue at all, and you don't need to be Yu Suzuki to know this shit anyway.

EDIT: And I'm not basing any of my knowledge on the post of another's. Not only is that absurd, but it also explains your inverted idea of what knowledge is.

Re: Things that pissed you off

The girl i used to date on and off got back with her ex, that was the cause of the on and offness in our relationship to begin with. She said numerous times it was over with him, until she kicked me to the curb 2 months ago and proceeded to get back with him. Bitch!

The thought of her lovng him and making an effort for him while i was just a meaningless rebound after nearly a year of deception is eating my soul. My mistake was falling for this girl, if only she wasn't so hot. I feel like trashing my room but unfortunately I can't release that way because I'm not a stupid moron.

Dont worry about that bitch, keep your head up and move on. She doesnt deserve you apparently. It all ultimately comes down to women doing what they do best, being bitches. brush that dirt off and move on my friend, its all there is left to do.

Re: What Nationality Are You?

Take it your voting "yes" in 2015 then

Even if I was a one of "those", I'd have hoped Salmond's Fat Lying Face would have still made me think independence was a bad idea. On a logical level, any good points to independence that I did a limited amount of research on and found positive evidence for are now wiped, 'cos of Salmond's Fat Lying Face looking smug while it tells some more lies, I'm now just convinced he wants to enter the history books as "The New King of Scotland"!
I'm reasonably politically aware of the various political "celebs" and co-fatheads that are in the news a lot, even though I tend to selectively read news online. But I still manage to see Mr. Salmond's fat head far too much, and even though I'm cynical and think "what did that actually mean?" anytime I hear a politician speak anyway, Salmond has some sort of sleaze to him that I can't quite justify, I just think he takes the piss even more than those types of people do anyway!

Re: What "makes" Shenmue for you?

Yeah, what Kiba said :nice!:

I definitely think that there hasn't been another game world as delicately crafted as Shenmue's was. When people rag on Shenmue they always mention how stiff and flat Ryo is and so on. But I really don't think there's another open game world crafted with a such a sensitive eye. As Kiba mentions, it's the only game whose open world actually feels believable and familiar somehow despite being set in a different decade and country from most of us. The rude school girl's smoking cigarette's, the neighbourhood bullies, the kids playing football, the creepy guy smoking cigarettes in the park while watching the kids play ( :P ), and the fact Ryo only gets an allowance (unless he gets a job) and has a curfue. It's familiar to us all. Shenmue's Yokosuka felt like a genuine place, in equal measures charming and mundane, and not at all "gamey" (indeed, Shenmue just generally speaking isn't very "gamey"). But what Shenmue's real stroke of genius is, is the way it played the mundane off of the mystical. You just know know there's something mystical and extraordinary just below the surface, Ryo has cryptic dreams while scratching at the surface of a deep and possibly magical conspiracy involving Jade mirrors. But unlike other adventure games, that doesn't mean Ryo can just forget about reality, oh no, if he wants to fly to Hong Kong to catch his father's killer, then he's just gonna have to get a 9 to 5 and deal with the monotony of hard work. But the mundane and the monotony doesn't take away from the mystique of the game, it only serves to make mystical feel more real, more real than in other game I've ever played. And the moments the game does occasionally let you catch a real glimpse of the secret world of triads, magic and martial arts, are some of the most rewarding moments to be found in any video game as far as I am concerned.

But Shenmue was an immensely ambitious game, it's a world away from the instant gratification of modern gaming. Not only did Shenmue create a truly believable, familiar and sometimes mundane word. But it absolutely refused to treat the gamers like a child. It's clear even in the name "Shenmue". None of us knew what the hell it even meant until the very end of the second game! Same with Shenhua, she's on the box of the first game, she's in the opening cutscene, she's in Ryo's dreams, so we know she's the main heroine, but she's not really in the first game at all. Yu Suzuki makes us practically complete two huge games and play for who knows how many hours, before he finally introduces us to our mysterious leading lady. And then....the TV metaphorically cuts off and here we are a decade later still knowing so little about her. But what other game has weaved such an ambitious, rich and delicate yarn to string us along with? I was shocked when it I realised that Ryo really wasn't going to catch Lan Di and resolve things neatly by the end of the first game, and that instead he had to travel to an entirely new country and world away from what we knew in Doubita.

There's so much that makes these games special. No game has even depicted the far east with such a fine eye, riffing off of both the reality, and those special mystical qualities that have always made that part of world so intriguing for many, and the game achieves a near perfect balance.

It's for all these reasons I think Shenmue can appeal to people who might not typically be gamers.

Oh man, sorry, I've evidently gone into gushing mode

Re: Gaming thoughts of the day

...on the other hand I loved the arkham city demo but if gameplay is mostly just going rooftop to rooftop and beating people up I think I will get it later on :-k

There's more to Arkham City than that. I'm not sure what's in the demo, but there's the standard brawling, building-climbing, gliding (which becomes more multi-functional as the game goes on), exploration, puzzles, and of course stealth. There's a lot of variety in it. And it lasted me pretty well in excess of 30 hours to complete, if I remember correctly.
Plus, the story is downright excellent. I don't know what Sleeping Dog's story is like, but no matter how it is, it's still restricted to the usual "crime drama" trappings of so many other games. Arkham City, however, is able to go to completely crazy places and pull insane left-field twists that could only work in a Batman story.
So take from that what you will, but my main point is that as good as Sleeping Dogs might possibly be (only played the demo, so I don't actually know myself), Arkham City will easily give you the more unique and very likely enduring videogame experience.

Re: Unpopular Opinions

lol, wtf? This is the Stephen Hawking incident all over again...

In perhaps the most amusing effort to discredit US President Barack Obama's plan for nationalized health care - if not the most ridiculous - US financial newspaper Investor's Business Daily has said that if Stephen Hawking were British, he would be dead.

"The controlling of medical costs in countries such as Britain through rationing, and the health consequences thereof, are legendary," read a recent editorial from the paper. "The stories of people dying on a waiting list or being denied altogether read like a horror script...

"People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the UK, where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless."

The paper has since been notified that Hawking is both British and still among the living. And it has edited the editorial, acknowledging that the original version incorrectly represented the whereabouts of perhaps the world's most famous scientific mind. But it has not acknowledged that its mention of Hawking misrepresented the NHS as well.

"I wouldn’t be here today if it were not for the NHS," Hawking told The Guardian. "I have received a large amount of high-quality treatment without which I would not have survived."

The best you can say about Investor's Business Daily is that unlike US radio talk host Rush Limbaugh, it has not compared Obama's health care logo to a swastika.
