Cheat Codes for NDC, CodeBreaker or Action Replay

These codes will work for nullDC Cheater or Action Replay, on the NTSC version of Shenmue I (all discs) . They won't work on PAL discs, but I'm working on getting some more PAL users. Some codes work only in certain areas, and others seem to work randomly some times and not at others.

If you have any codes you've found yourself, please post them here and I'll add them to the list. You might be able to find codes that do other things by editing some of the existing codes, so good luck on your search! Most codes can be changed by editing the last string of numbers. For example, from 00000001 to 00000002 might cause the code to do something else.

Skip all Dialog: 01223E83 000010BC - Makes all dialog pass by in a flash without needing to press any buttons.

* Codes marked with an asterix are still unpredictable, and could use some more research to find better codes, and to nail down exactly what the listed codes do, more predictably.

Most Wanted Codes!

Camera boundary vanishing (stop objects vanishing when they go slightly off camera. True widescreen!)
Ryo model swap
Fuku model swap (swap fuku's model OR fighting style to let us fight with anyone)
Train anywhere (A switch to set the "train here yes/no" dialogue as active)
Hidden raffle prizes (?)
Fast movement (move faster. Or perhaps fight faster?)
Hack NPC spawns (make any NPC spawn in Dobuita, for example)
Jump to location (jump to any specified area when you exit one)
Retro Hazuki residence outside (like it is in the memories custcene, with the falling cherry blossoms)
Passport online menus (fool passport into thinking you're connected to the internet)
Hidden phone numbers (make any call connect to hidden numbers or conversations?)
Endless 70 man battle (enemies re-spawn? Might be impossible)
Switch battle ID numbers (to start any battle you want, possibly?)
Spar with Fuku again and again (should be pretty easy to find)
Stop mandatory bedtime (a code which prevents the auto bed-time and lets you stay up all night)

You can get null DC cheater by searching for it online. This program is in German, however, so you might need to tinker around with it until you get what all the buttons do. You'll also need to rename the cheater .exe file to match the name of you nullDC version .exe. So for example, my nullDC executable is named "nulldc," so I had to rename the cheater to "nulldcCheater." Remember to also click "trainer is aus" to turn it on once you've added the codes. Any further questions, just post here.

Alternatively, all of these will work on CodeBreaker or Action Replay.

Ive requested the other Shenmue outlets to only credit Esppiral with his Esppiral handle and not Esppiral's true identity.

Re: Dead or Alive 5 Shenmue Edition.

playing this is as close to Shenmue 3 we're gonna get lol. Hopefully I'm wrong and a company is thinking about picking up the series.

good job Esppiral, you livened up the Shenmue Community!

#satisfiedforlife

edit to avoid double posting: if your using autohotkey to remap the keyboard controls, here's a control configuration for the numpad so you can fight as if your in Shenmue. You must have numlock on.

Numpad4::u ; #punch + kick
numpad9::o ;#special kick
numpad8::i ;#tag switch
numpad0::n ;#taunt
numpad1::k ;#punch x button for punch
numpad2::l ;#kick a button for kick
numpad6::j ;#guard ;#accidentally had it as h X|
numpad3::m ;#throw b button for throw
numpadenter::enter ;#enter
numpad5::w ;#double tap and it'll be like pushing y to evade attacks! not as effective but it works!

ok that's it I think.

More glitches! Anyone ever noticed that NPC on the roof of the Centre Pawnshop?
If anyone has any thoughts on this I'd appreciate any kind of post. It's getting rather lonely and one sided here... :oops:

Re: A new converter for Shenmue geometry including textures

Bit useless, but I obviously found some use in it.. It's a simple batch script to automate the decompressing, unpacking and converting of various file types. I found it helpful when I wanted to extract multiple models using this method but not have to process each file manually.

1. Extract the archive somewhere.
2. Copy all of your files you wish to decompress, unpack & convert to the root folder of the newly-created "Shenmue_Model_Extractor" folder.
3. Run the 'RUNME.bat' batch script and follow the prompt(s) as necessary.

Download link

NOTE: If any updates for the above tools are published then you can simply replace the executables and the script should still work, as long as the parameters do not change.

EDIT: Here's a MAXScript script that will loop through all of the objects you currently have selected and if they have a material with a diffuse map assigned it will copy that diffuse map over to the opacity map and set the Mono Channel Output to Alpha and the Alpha Source to the Image Alpha accordingly. This was useful when previewing the extracted foliage meshes along with their extracted materials, now simply selecting them directly after extraction and importing into 3ds Max, you can get a relatively good representation in a couple of seconds. The script also supports Multi Materials, just in case the unpacker/extractor end up utilising them. Otherwise, I'm sure the functionality will be useful to someone, somewhere! :rotflmao:

MaterialArray = #()
MaterialCount = 0

for obj in selection where (mtl = obj.material) != undefined do (
if (classOf mtl == multiMaterial) then (
for m in mtl.materialList do (
append MaterialArray m
)
) else (
append MaterialArray mtl
)
)

for mtl in MaterialArray do (
if(hasProperty mtl "diffuse") then (
print(mtl.name)
mtl.opacityMap = COPY mtl.diffuseMap
mtl.opacityMap.monoOutput = 1
mtl.opacityMap.alphaSource = 0
MaterialCount = MaterialCount + 1
)
)

print("Processed " + MaterialArray.count As String + " materials.")

Excite QTA (Quick Time App) - Android Devices

http://mooncalfstudios.com/hazukilegacy/screen3.jpg

Hey everyone. To celebrate the 3rd of the month (which as you know is our ‪#‎SaveShenmue‬ tweetathon day) I'm releasing this free app for Android. It works just like Excite QTE 2 from the original Shenmue, but it runs on all Android devices (I hope! lol) and has a built in online scoreboard. Follow the link to check it out, or you can search the Google Play store for "Excite QTA":

Mod Idea: Shenmue Character Selector

Hi everyone,

I kind of ran out of mod ideas.

But I had this one in mind.

I started writing a program that will allow you to choose which character model you would like to switch Ryo with, and at which level.

Lately, I have been getting sick of hex editing over and over again just to tackle simple hacks like character swaps.

So here is what it does:
1. You point it to a cdi file that is vanilla.
I will be basing it on the Xiaopang release.
2. You select which map you want to edit Ryo in.
The hex edit is done per map.
3. You select which character you want to use instead
At first, this will be limited to a couple of known working characters.
4. Press Go!

This will then jump into the cdi at hex level and make some edits to the ykb_X variables and there you have it!

If I finish this, would you guys use it?

Re: BlueMue's Shenmue videos

Here's another silly mod. I had the basic idea to this floating around for a couple of weeks now and since James mentioned in his interview that I do mods I thought it was good timing to get this done. Enjoy! :mrgreen:

https://youtu.be/FTuHM284DLE

Getting Shenhua in Ryo's place is something new that I've been trying earlier. It's some sort of duplicate model that comes with a couple of bugs. It's the only compatible model to use as the players character so far. I tried other things with partial success but it's really nothing I'd call "showable".

Totally missed that one. "Father! Mother! Random old guy!" I laughed my ass off.

Re: BlueMue's Shenmue videos

Here's the follow up to the mirror action in the previous video.

https://youtu.be/En8n_npgIEU

I had to dig around a bit in order to find out how to remove the clipping for Liu Barber's. The collision data for this place isn't stored in the mapinfo.bin. It's stored in a file packed inside the map's PKS. Also I had to use nullDC to get this video done. While the mentioned specially hacked Liu Barber's did load on the Dreamcast, the other two did not. Even on Demul they failed to load.

Shenmue - 'Suka High (fan film)

Hi everybody,

I don't know if anyone remembers me. I was a member for the boards back in the day under the name Rising Tiger (or something like that). I wrote some of the fan-fiction that's actually on the Shenmue Dojo main site too.

Anyways, I thought I'd post the teaser trailer to a little project that I'm looking to wrap up soon. It's a fan-film based on Shenmue called 'Suka High.

Shenmue - 'Suka High - Teaser Trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-x6omdV18c

I'm looking at one more shooting session tomorrow afternoon/evening. Hopefully, I'll have it finished before the end of May.

Shenmue was and still is my favorite game of all time. I've been wanting to do a project like this for the longest time now, and I'm so happy that I've finally gotten the people and the time to actually do it with. Once the short film is finished, I'll be sure to post it on here. I'd love to hear what you guys think.

*Also, if this is in the wrong forum, then I'm sorry. Please move it to the most appropriate forum.

Rigged 2D Characters for Your Projects

I'm using Spriter Pro to create many (many!) rigged 2D Shenmue characters and animations for those characters. I figured I'd share every character as I go, because I know there might be a few people who want to use similar things in their projects, or perhaps simply play around with posing Shenmue characters.

I'm doing this for my own fangame called The Hazuki Legacy, so you can expect many more. So far the only character I've rigged with bones is Ryo Hazuki, and it's more of a test run than anything else (I'd like to do them in higher resolution and with smoother edges). He currently has only 2 animations, but I'll re-upload it each time I add an animation to his project file, or when I replace his body parts with higher res images.

Each of the following files are saved in .scml format, which is an extension used for Spriter Pro projets. If you don't have Spriter and you'd like me to export an animation to Unity or even a sprite sheet image, please let me know:

Ryo Hazuki
Current animations: walk, run.

Re: @Yu_Suzuki_Jp Twitter Account is back to life~ [UPDATES]

Hello everyone !

First, a huge thanks to Yu Suzuki who allowed me to share this. Now that I've got his approval, here are more details about the latest tweet.

As you all know, Yu Suzuki has restarted his twitter account.

He has met with Baji Quan Master : Wu Lianzhi and they both shared a good time. However they were not alone. Indeed, from time to time, Master Wu Lianzhi is teaching Baji Quan in Japan and they met during that event, along with many other people (check pictures below).

http://s11.postimg.org/xh96hjkdv/DSC00257.jpg

On that day, Yu Suzuki also received a 色紙 (a square piece of fancy paper, used for poems) from Master Wu Lianzhi. Here's what you can read on the paper : « 遊戯の父» which, literally means : « father of games ». Not necessarily video games, it's a general meaning in chinese.

Known for many games, Yu Suzuki has managed to share his knowledge of Baji Quan (Hakkyokuken) through Virtua Fighter and Shenmue.

Thanks again to Yu Suzuki !

Re: @Yu_Suzuki_Jp Twitter Account is back to life~ UPDATES H

I've got approval from Yu Suzuki to create an official french twitter account.

Even if you don't know french, just feel free to follow/RT/fav it, that'd be great.

I will be working on it on my free time.

Thanks !

Re: Shenmue 3 Kickstarter announced at E3 2015!

Just managed to get my first proper look at the kickstarter page - I have a tear in my eye. Now just need to convince my other half that it will be a good idea to pledge some money.

My conversation with my wife went something like:

Me: "I know money is tight, but there's a Kickstarter for Shenmue 3. I've waited almost 15 years for this, and..."
Her: "It's Shenmue 3, I understand."
Me: "Uh, I'm leaning toward the $300 or $500. Probably $500, because..."
Her: "It's Shenmue 3. I understand. Really."

I couldn't convince her of the $10,000 dinner with Yu Suzuki, but, you know, can't win 'em all! \:D/

Shenmue 3 Wallpapers

Hey guys!

FOR FULL SIZE / QUALITY IMAGES FOR DESKTOP WALLPAPER
DOWNLOAD FROM: https://www.flickr.com/photos/134152289@N03/

Wanted to use some of the new art / images from the Kickstarter to use as a desktop background but unfortuantely the images are rather small and low quality when blown up as background. So I've taken the nice image of Ryo and Shenhua walking in Guilin and took out most of the noise and crap that would show up when blown up and added lens flare and a couple of nice soft filters to make it look a bit water coloured. Even though it's a 600x382 image, it looks really nice as my 1920x1080 display.

Re: Is anyone else concerned that...

i think this game is going to be more comparable in size to shenmue 1 than 2. it will have that intimate feel again but just in a rural location. i love how every iteration has a different feel based on the environment. i'll trust suzuki with this.

Re: Is anyone else concerned that...

...there won't be a big city in the game?

It's starting to look like Shenmue 3 encompasses a handful of old fashioned villages. Personally, the #1 thing I loved about Shenmue was exploring super detailed urban environments.

Regardless of this I'm still super stoked for Shenmue III, but is anyone else going to be disappointed if it's all nature and old timey huts? I wanna chug some cola and play Hang On :lol:

No, Shenmue II CD4 was basically a Shenmue III demo.
You were still exploring an environment but with Shenhua by your side. I remember losing my shit when I saw her running in the rain and well... Seeing Shenmue.

Also, old villages in Guillin must be filled with mystical tales and masters.

Feature Story
- Ryo Hazuki is coming back -

Shenmue III has set off
The fundraising campaign has started on Kickstarter

E3 2015 is being held in Los Angeles from June 17th till 19th (Japan time). Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) press conference was held in June 16th, a day before E3 starts, and a game creator Yu Suzuki announced the new “Shenmue 3.” He also revealed his campaign using the crowd-funding site “Kickstarter” to raise funds for this game.
It’s been 14 years since the release of Shenmue 2. What will this eagerly-awaited Shenmue 3 be like? Why did he chose Kickstarter?--- I have asked the executive produce Mr.Suzuki. (Interviewer: Famitsu chief editor Katsuhiko Hayashi)

Finally setting off the official sequel “Shenmue 3”

---The impact of the name of “Shenmue 3” is so great and it surprised me when I first heard it. Well, it’s been 14 years since Shenmue 2 was released. Why make Shenmue 3 now? Would you give us the accounts on how it started?
Suzuki: I have been always looking for the way to launch Shenmue 3, so it is not like we just started this project. Although it’s been more than a decade since Shenmue 2, there are many enthusiastic fans still existing and when I attend autograph sessions abroad, they always come ask me “When is Shenmue 3 coming?” For example in France, 80% of people who come to my autograph sessions are the Shenmue fans. The rest of 10% are Virtua Fighter fans and the other 10% are Hang-on fans or so. There are fans who still manage fan communities. Every year around March and April, the rumor “They say that they are making Shenmue 3” comes out and it reaches me.. haha.

---The eagerly waiting voices turn to rumors.
Suzuki: Yes that’s right. But slowly the fan’s voices have changed to something wistful. They say “It can be just a novel, so please give us the sequel story at least” or “Just manga is fine. We want to see a new “Shenmue”.” Those voices made me think that I should push the project forward somehow for the fans, no matter if I couldn’t make a full-spec game.

--- And for the means to make it happen, you chose Kickstarter. Why?
Suzuki: About three years ago, one of the fans who has experience using Kickstarter suggested me using it for the Shenmue project. That is when I first learned about Kickstarter, and started researching it. If it comes to really making the game, I have to make sure it satisfies my fans. So I couldn’t go like “OK I’m doing this with Kickstarter!” I seeked other ways,--- for instance finding a partner, but I couldn’t find one that meets my requirements. After careful consideration, we decided that Kickstarter is the best way to set off, and we were able to announce it finally in 2015.

---So you were just saying that you wanted to make the sequel, but really you have been working on it already for a long time.
Suzuki: Yes. Strong feedback after the Shenmue lecture at GDC 2014 also pushed me into coming this far. Sega agreeably licenced it to me and SCE also supported us by saying “We will support you if you are making Shenmue.” I knew that announcing the Kickstarter project at SCE’s conference is a very remarkable thing and am so happy that many people still support Shenmue this much.

---The title “Shenmue 3” is very direct and has no twist.
Suzuki: I couldn’t think of any other name. Shenmue 1, 2 and 3. It is not a spin-off. It comes to PS4 and PC.

---Its an eagerly awaited official sequel and fans will be definitely delighted. What is the goal of the Kickstarter funding?
Suzuki: 2 million yen at the very beginning.

---It must be easy to raise 2 million if it is for Shenmue.
Suzuki: However, 2 million is the very least amount of money you need for a game to come to exist. If it’s just 2 million, it will be more likely a very story-driven based game. If we can raise more, it will be more realistic for me to be able to do what I want to do. I want to try something new.

--- Just like you.. Your stance of “making something new” has never changed.
Suzuki: Yes. I will do my best to make a new Shenmue.

--- We will talk about this “New Shenmue” later. What are the pledge rewards for donating to Kickstarter?
Suzuki: I would like to adopt everyone’s opinion into the game to the extent that I can. For example if there are two designs of one character, then I will ask everyone to vote for each of them. I will provide the participation privilege for that kind of voting. Also while Shenmue 3 is under development, I will prepare a trial-demo so they can take a sneak peak of it.

--- So you are creating Shenmue 3 with your fans?
Suzuki: I think every one of the people who invested in this project has a leading role in it and I hope each one of them enjoy it. Please visit Kickstarter’s Shenmue page to learn more about the pledge rewards.

F: Next, I would like to ask about the key content of Shenmue 3. What kind of story developments can be expected in Shenmue 3?
YS: At the end of Shenmue 2 Ryo visits Guilin, said to be the most beautiful region in China. The area is famous for landscape paintings, and it has a river called the Li river. Shen Hua’s house is located on a tributary of the river. The story of Shenmue 2 ends at the point where Ryo reaches Shen Hua’s house, and the story of Shemue 3 continues right from there.
F: So, Ryo and Shen Hua will make an appearance, continuing from the previous part.
YS: For people who have played the Shenmue series, those familiar characters will appear as they were.
F: Will the setting be Guilin?
YS: Yes. For example, visiting a town(s) in the Guilin area, or going back to the mountains. Also infiltrating the Guilin chapter of an underground organization, the Chi You Men.
F: It could be said that Shenmue is the originator of open world gameplay, and has influenced many games since, but for Shenmue 3 what direction do you plan to take the open world model?
YS: When I created Shenmue 1, I was aiming to create exactly what is now called an “open world”. Being able to stop freely at any location you wish, advancing if you wish to move the story forward, or just standing still if you prefer. Back then, we called the system “FREE”, but in time it came to be referred to as open world. In Shenmue 2, with advances and technology and techniques, the open world was expanded even further.
F: In Shenmue 2, it was possible to walk through many towns over a wide area of Hong Kong, wasn’t it.
YS: Actually, at that time, I had decided that for Shenmue 3 I would delve in more deeply.
F: More deeply?
YS: Yes. People might expect that the open world would be made even broader, but in contrast to that, I will focus on depth. For example, for the case of 100 characters, splitting the development budget among them would limit the elements that could be incorporated into each character.
F: That’s true, it would make it harder to create each with detail.
YS: However, if we reduce the number to 10 characters, a lot of possibilities are opened up. The amount of conversation could be increased 10 times, or detailed A.I. provided for each character. As a result, conversations could be much richer. As an example, in Shenmue 3 the person that Ryo will speak with most is Shen Hua, so I want to portray her with depth. I envisage an approach where, by settings parameters for Shen Hua, on-going conversations with her will influence events such as changing her attitude, or changing the way that quests relating to her unfold.
F: I see. I think a lot of support for Shenmue comes not from just the realistic towns, but from the realism of the people inhabiting it. From what you have described, this realism will be further increased, and the world will feel even more “human”.
YS: Yes. In Shenmue this time I will be focusing particularly on digging down further on such internal aspects.
F: This is your vision for the new Shenmue, isn’t it.
YS: Of course, that’s not to say it will not be open world. Stretch goals will allow the town(s) to be expanded. However, what I would like to try first is to develop something that everyone has not anticipated; a deep Shenmue world.

F: I can’t wait to see this new Shenmue. Speaking of Shenmue, apart from its open world, its QTEs and minigames made it special, didn’t they.
YS: QTEs were originally included so that even people who were poor at battles could enjoy them. I’m happy that various games have included QTEs since then.
F: QTEs also had their origin in Shenmue, didn’t they.
YS: This time, I would like to show new QTEs; ones which can played by anyone, and which have carefully-crafted event sequences. In addition, I’d like to change the nature of free battles. (I will think of a different name, as I don’t want to call them free battles). I’d like to make a battle that is won by making the correct decision, rather than by correct timing of pushing buttons.
F: I believe Shenmue was made with the concept of being a game that can be enjoyed by any player, and this new system feels to be in keeping with that.
YS: Also this time I am planning a “technique scrolls” system. Ah.... maybe I have said too much (laughs).
F: Not at all, we’d like to hear more! (laughs)
YS: For example, with the free battle it is tough to practice and input the various commands required, so simply by obtaining a technique scroll you can apply the technique to help you win a battle. In the case of a QTE, the new technique could be unleashed during the QTE. I would like to make it so that a technique can be used to your advantage in battle just by obtaining a technique scroll. Furthermore, I’d like to make that technique scroll connect with various elements within the game.
F: Could you explain a bit more with respect to “connecting with elements”?
YS: Shenmue has had a number of ways you could play around, such as mini-games and gambling spots, but I have always been thinking about how to connect these together in some way. Of course, they are connected in the sense that you can take a part-time job to earn money, then increase that amount by gambling, then buy weapons... but not that kind of connection, something much closer. If the stretch goals can be reached and more detailed elements incorporated into the open world, this will allow technique scrolls to serve as the pivot for connecting together the various side games. That’s the kind of direction I would like to take it.
F: I see. So various elements of the open world will be connected together in a more natural way. Apart from that, are there any other elements that you are keen to include in Shenmue 3?
YS: One particular part of Shenmue that fans seem to have fallen in love with is the forklift part-time job, which is extremely popular. So I really want to include it in Shenmue 3 too, but how can you operate a forklift deep in the mountains of Guilin (laughs). I haven’t stopped thinking about how to find some way to include a forklift (laughs).

F: Please tell us about the development set-up for Shenmue 3.
YS: This time, the main development company is Neilo. The representative for Neilo, Takeshi Hirai, worked as the chief programmer for Shenmue and has a good understanding of Shenmue.
F: Since Shenmue is an open world game, I had thought that working with an overseas development company that is experienced in open world games would have been an option.
YS: Yes, that may have been an option. However, the main distinguishing characteristic of Shenmue is its culture. I believe that users overseas also have taken interest in the culture and customs of Asia. People have said they appreciate it when Ryo says “Thank you” for the smallest thing, for example. Someone who has worked all along on creating Shenmue understands that kind of culture and values.
F: So this time, development will be using Unreal Engine 4, won’t it.
YS: I have been looking at various engines for Shenmue 3 for the past 3 years, but the colors of Unreal Engine 4 are closest to those I envisage for the world of Shenmue. Although that’s a pretty broad statement, given that it’s a technical topic. The feeling of slight dampness in the air, the skin colors, the feel of materials etc were closest to my ideal.
F: Apart from the Neilo staff, are there others participating who have worked with Shenmue before?
YS: Yes, of course. I wanted to build up the team with past members as I believe that gives the fans some reassurance. Among others are scenario writer Masahiro Yoshimoto, and Kenji Miyawaki who is in charge of the character designs.
F: Given that this project is coming to life 14 years after the previous release of Shenmue, everyone must be very surprised.
YS: Mr Yoshimoto has been active in the world of television, and reacted with surprise saying “With television, producing something new with a theme that is 14 years old is unheard of”. But Mr Yoshimoto told me that he made many discoveries through his experience with Shenmue. Later on, I plan to release a video with comments from Mr Yoshimoto and the rest of the staff, so please watch out for it.
F: We are looking forward to seeing it. The fans are sure to be happy.
YS: I have gathered together quite a few of the original key members who gave Shenmue that special feel. I’m sure this will bring a feeling of both reassurance and nostalgia.
F: By the way, it may be a bit impatient to ask, but do you already have in mind how things will progress after Shenmue 3?
YS: Of course, I have that in mind. But first and foremost, I’d like to put primary focus on Shenmue 3.
F: When is the planned release date for Shenmue 3?
YS: I’d like to release it by the end of 2017.
F: That’s quite some way off, but we can’t wait. From speaking with you today, I can really appreciate the challenges that you are taking on of producing a new Shenmue. Finally, do you have a message for all the fans who have waited all this time for Shenmue 3?
YS: The fans have told me over the course of 14 years how they wanted part 3 to be made, and I have always told myself that I had to find some way to make it. And now, through the crowd-funding of Kickstarter, at last I have been able to make a start on the Shenmue 3 project. In order to bring about a Shenmue 3 that incorporates a perfect blend of both a Shenmue that everyone desires, as well as a Shenmue with the new challenges I want to take on, everyone’s effort is needed. Thank you so much for your support.

Picture captions:
1) This image shows the figures of Ryo and Shen Hua walking on a mountain path. Note that Ryo has changed clothes from the leather jacket he wears in the first and second parts of the series.
2) Using a telescope, Ryo observes buildings below a cliff. According to Yu Suzuki, before Ryo lies the enemy’s camp, which Ryo is searching for a way to infiltrate.
3) Shen Hua and Ryo, drawn by Kenji Miyawaki who is in charge of character design for the series. Shen Hua, the main heroine, did not appear much in the first and second parts of the series. In Shenmue 3, she will surely take a principle role.
4) Niao Sun, one of the leaders of the underground organisation opposing Ryo, the Chi You Men. Although her existence has previously been revealed, she has not made an in-game appearance until now.

Re: In Hindsight, Were We Too Harsh On Sega?

I have no regrets for being so vocal about wanting part 3. If we would have remained silent we would never see what has happened this week. It is a nice token that they allowed Yu to take his baby and expend the story further, but like I said, if we didn't fight as hard as we have over the years right up to the end I don;t think we would have the success with the kickstarter that we see. Shenmue is always in the news every few months it seemed, like rumors or speculation, so people continuously got to hear about it and that elevated it to a mythical status. Even people that never played the games got to know about it because how vocal and passionate we were.

Re: Why I Think Shenmue 2x is better

Okay, realism is a nonissue to pick apart here. If you are so much of a stickler that one of your complaints is that the people would be more likely to speak English than Japanese, then you probably should just not play Shenmue II past the Dou Niu fight, because realism lies out the window once you get to know Shenhua and step inside that cave.

I don't have a problem with it. Realism in game to me in fact means only that its world must have internal consistency, and Shenmue got that. As example, if I was playing Shemue 1 & 2 in English all this time and the game takes place now in Thailand, I would expect the people there to speak in English and not in Thai; Unless in Shenmue's world the US colonized most of the Asian countries but not all of them. Anyway, my comment on my previous post only meant to compliment the English cast of Shenmue 2.

I never have an issue with people liking one over the other, it is simply the fact that a lot of people cannot seem to intelligently defend their opinion outside of just being a Japanophile, does that make sense? They jump on the bandwagon and all they can say is "ITS TURRBLE LOL". I articulated this point a few posts back, but feel compelled to bring it back up again.

I openly admit there are some not so good voices in the NPCs, but as you said, the main characters are fine.

The feeling you get with the atmosphere I got when playing the English one. I have never played the Japanese version admittedly, but since hardly anybody here is fluent in the language, how do we know we are not romanticizing the voices in the original? There may be just the same amount of goofiness, if not more. I seem to remember Kiyuu saying that one of the main characters' voices left something to be desired, if I recall correctly.

Nozomi's Amulet Scene in English:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OemGh5ja3aU

On the intonation and overall level of energy, Nozomi in the Japanese version appears to be more talkative and assertive in general, while in the English one she seems bashful and not very confident. You could even say they are different people. It may seem all subtle but it's there. You can tell specially by the number of "sounds" Nozomi makes on each scene (fewer in the English one) and the enthusiasm in her voice.

Look, I'm not saying one is better than the other, and I applaud the English VO actress effort as she must have had a hard time matching her speech with the "weird" body language of the character (which was intended to behave very Japanese like). So it's just preference.

Overall I got a slightly different experience playing each version. PS. Chai in the English version is perfect IMO. He's the exact counterpart to the Japanese one, same as Ryo.

Good points. I think Nozomi's English voice is perfect, she seems to me like a shy girl, and her voice matches that. Ya know, she likes a guy who won't respond to her? I think it matches perfectly.

Re: Update; Interview with Tak Hirai, lead Shenmue programme

This is not Ryo's movement, this is the stock example character in UE4. If you download UE4, you can play around with it.

Great interview, I wonder what will they do with the battle system. I'm hoping something similar to the original VF-esque combat.

Re: We should clear up the misunderstanding about Sony's fun

- Yu Suzuki says the majority of investment will be from Kickstarter.

It takes a bit of imagination to infer this sentence from your source.

Adam Boyes has conveyed in two or three occasions that Sony is backing the project substantially.

We're getting behind it in a major way

^ I imagine through promotion and other types of support, not necessarily funding.
