Being a gamer in the PAL territory...

Postby ShadowTech » Sun Jul 13, 2003 12:33 am

I live in Canada, so therefor I play US branded NTSC games. All games released on a specific day in the US are released in Canada on the same day.

From what I have heard, PAL region games can take up to a couple months to get PAL release, compared to their NTSC counterparts. I have also heard some complaints about the PAL frame rate being a slower 50, than the NTSC 60 (in certain games where they count, like FPS/racing titles).

Is there anyone out there in the PAL region that has went as far as to bought a NTSC console (whatever one) and NTSC TV (or all the converters)?

Damnit, F'ing crappy PAL! I never went as far as buying a converter or anything, its only a month's difference. Though I did get a Jap import of Shenmue-I--I just couldn't wait any longer.

its because we have a superior television system, better quality, games developers cannot be bothered to convert systems when porting a game, so as a result we get slowdown and boreders because it doesnt run on our system properly, luckily, dreamcast brought with it the 60hz option, tho i had a 60hz switch fitted on my saturn anyway, and now all the major consoles can run 60hz...

and if you have a decent tv it allowe you to switch between modes anyway, liek smart on mine removes those borders...

Well, they are actually not. The video format (either NTSC or PAL..sometimes SECAM, but not for games) is different depending where you play your games.

Luckily my cheap 28" tv just happened to be NTSC/60hz mode compatible.

Which is just brilliant.

But yes, most modern games can switch frequencies now.

I have a NTSC compatible tv and I imported games from the US to play on my PS such as Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Chonicles, FF7 Japanese version, FF7 International Japanese version.

Yes, PAL is actualy a higher standard then NTSC. The United States was one of the first places in the world to adopt color televison, however while others countrys were slower to get color when they did they went ahead and got a higher standard. The ntsc res of 640x480 is the same in the US today as it was decades ago and because of evil, greed cable providers that won't change any day soon.
