One of the best games of all time, as mentioned in my epic Games of the Decade list, which is still incomplete.

alright, 30 hours into Infinite Space now. As I play, the game gets even better and better.

The best way to describe it is Skies of Arcadia Ship battles, a Front Mission flow and type of story, with the setting of Outlaw Star or Battleship Yamato.

The Skies connection is pretty obvious once you actually get into a battle, the systems aren't exactly the same but VERY similar. Skies has more actual commands but in Infinite Space the depth is in preparing for battle. Fighters, Battleships, Cruisers, modules, weapon sets, etc etc. Theres so much you can do to customize the ships battle capabilities. Once you actually find your groove and decide how you specifically can win its very satisfying. Personally I have a crazy defense, I fly in with my 4 ships The Delphinus, Little Jack, Tornado II and Egg Carrier and just wait for my enemy to wail on me, while they do that i throw in quick slaps and volleys and since they can even scratch me i outlast everything. After a while I changed it up and learned the beauty of Fighters, I can launch fighters, jump out of range and let them clean up.

So you might ask, Front Mission? Really? REAAAALLLY? Yea, the flow is almost identical. So is the actual storyline. The political intrigue and fragile alliances along with the branching paths and even the character art during conversations. I think I'm going to finish up my FMDS playthrough because of it lol. In terms of the flow basically heres how Infinite Space works, you fly from planet to planet on starlanes, each planet has a CTA, which is where you can edit your fleet or crew, a system menu, where you save and an elevator. the elevator takes you to the surface where you can visit a bar and chat up your crewmates as well as locals. Some planets also have guilds and shops but not every planet has more then a tavern. And just like in Front Mission this all happens via a menu. Again like Front mission battles happen either randomly while traveling between towns or when you arrive at a specific story related point.

If you don't get how its like Yamato or Outlaw star you're not very observant lol

^^I actually have very similar thoughts on it. I kept thinking the battles were a little like Skies (though it's been so long since I played SOA that I couldn't say for sure), the "adventure" parts definitely reminded me of Front Mission (especially since most places you go look similar, and all have bars you can enter and talk to people in), and I mentioned the Outlaw Star thing before.
I'm only 7 or 8 hours in, though. Sounds like customization really opens up later on.
And yeah, I'd recommend going back and finishing Front Mission if you haven't. Man, I love that game. One of my favorite tactical RPGs, right alongside Final Fantasy Tactics. And FM3 on PS1 was pretty awesome, too.

I seem to be focusing more on Otogi at the moment, only playing Infinite Space when I'm in bed, getting ready to go to sleep.
I actually never finished Otogi before. I rented it a LONG time ago and got a good way through it, but eventually had to return the game. I'd played through enough to know I loved it, though. And even though I've owned it for a long time as well, I've just never gotten back to beating it until now. I'm hoping to beat it, then go on to playing through Otogi 2 as well (another one that I'd gotten a few hours into before, but stopped for whatever reason).
Excellent games. Among the Xbox's best.

I beat all the FMs up till 5 which is odd because I have FM:online somwhere around here

Otogi can be hard, you just have to get in the groove of doing things quickly (since the magic meter depletes) and replaying levels over a few times to level up a bit. You really just have to be sort of patient and spend some time with it, though the fact that it's a "stylish" action game in the vein of Ninja Gaiden or DMC would probably compel you to speed through.
It's more annoying later in the game when enemies shoot curse spells at you, which will deplete up to two orbs of health before wearing off. 2 or 3 shots with that, and you have to start over. Gets a little irritating sometimes, but it's so well-made I just want to keep playing.

The worst is the explosive spiders in 2 you can slap em away with Tsuna but it takes some precise timing.

Fuck me Earthworm Jim is hard. Not so much the difficulty, also fucking disastrous level design..

I'm stuck on Final Fantasy Tactics...the game is really hard. I've started playing Drakengard 2 and Wet instead.

Wet is a fun game, very short though.

I actually agree with this. There's a lot of love out there for EWJ, but it seems like that love comes down more to the animation, art design, and personality. The actual gameplay is pretty imprecise, and like you said, the level design is sometimes pretty bad.

Tackling Mentor. The bosses and chapters aren't really all that hard. What makes it difficult are the hordes of ninjas spamming rockets and exploding projectiles at you every second.

Is this version anything like NG on the ps3? I really have no idea if this is suposed to be NG Sigma2 or if it did in fact come on the ps3...

Sigma 2 differs from the 360 version. The gore was really toned down, instead of blood it's purple mist.Less enemies are on the screen at once and the spamming was reduced. In some ways,Sigma 2 is alot easier than the 360 version.

I actually started this up again yesterday, and had a good time with it, better than the last time I played.

There's no doubt that it's a unique, and I'll say even a fantastic game, but its gameplay is sometimes quite unnatural and the style imposes itself on the rest, leaving a lack of substance. Like it's weird just for the sake of being weird.

Feels like it should deserve a little more attention in terms of having a more functional and unobtrusive gameplay (regarding a hypothetical remake or New Play Control! thing).
