Street fighter and Metal Gear franchises began in the 80's, and one could say: try playings street fighter without a stick or dpad, or a game without a controller full stop, etc, etc. I get what you mean, because the 90's was something of a golden era for gaming, but it's not by any means factually the greatest era in gaming.

Personally I'm loving where we're we are at now. I don't miss the 90's. I've played the best action game I've yet to experiece with Bayonetta, had some great mature storytelling with Deadly Premonition, Catherine, Nier, Yak 3, Lost Odyssey, Red Dead and many more, the handholds have been amazing, the indie scene is thriving, and so on and so on.

Yes the gaming scene has grown and it's now no longer 'hardcore only' territory and some don't like that, and yes we have seen a boatload of gimmickry and shovelware on the wii console which took a long time to reach it's potential, imo. But I've loved this gen, it keeps getting better.

You cannot play video games without electricity. Therefore a Tesla coil is more fun than Dragon Quest.

I love a little bit about every Gen. This gen, to me, was all about the Nintendo DS. That console alone made this generation worth it. The Wii, 360, and PS3 I could live without, but the DS? Psch not likely... as least I wouldn't want to :P

Since we're so far off topic, i'm thinking people who played text based PC games will argue that that was the best generation cause you read alot and were forced to use your imagination frequently rather than see detail sprites on screen all the time.

Currently, I'm quite mad about the early 80s. From 80 to 83 is where it was at, where seemingly every new game was a huge step forward in creativity and gameplay, whether they were arcade games or computer games.

So anyways:

Mortal Kombat (2011)

Beat the story and still working on the challenge tower. But it's great. Never thought i'd get into MK, it was one of those games I prefered to watch rather than play back in the day. But damn, it's very playable and very fun. It's a lent copy, so I plan on buying the Komplete Edition in the future so I can get all the DLC on the disc (at least I think its on the disc).

The story itself is adequate. I mean, they did the best they could with all the crazy goofy characters they have. Overall, really recommended if you enjoy fighting games.
