Also just an apology for the weird way I acted earlier. I have been doped on morphine and drugs for days and it's finally wearing off.

just continuing with this thread, an under-acknowledged advantage of textual lore is that it extends the 'vocabulary' of the game itself. For example in Lost Odyssey, the memory sequences are written in such an expressive, sentimental way that you actually get to understand the real kaim which the game largely presents as your typical stoic, japanese lead through traditional story beats and jrpg mechanics.

Or in the Elder Scrolls when a book describes a city for example, the written lore paints a picture of size, poverty and busyness which the game engine is just unable to portray. These more fanciful descriptions then bleed into the game itself where we can imagine the size, the poverty, the busyness as occuring just around the corner so to speak. In other words, the written lore descriptions of grandeur almost become the real 'versions' where the actual in-game depictions then become a facsimile of the lore: wherein we learn to suspend our disbelief.

^ Good analysis.

Just wanted to bump this to discuss the 1.5
patch, which adds more kill cams and generally improves a lot on the PS3 version, and, of course, the PC version. Anyone with the PC version get the official improved texture pack?

Been watching so many gritty middle ages films and now watching Game of Thrones and now want a gritty middle ages RPG.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012- ... -announced

The wraps have just come off The Elder Scrolls Online - a PC and Mac MMO due out in 2013.

According to Game Informer's reveal, it's set 1000 years before the events of Skyrim, with daedric prince Molag Bal attempting to incorporate Tamriel into his demonic realm.

It's Zenimax Online Studios' very first project, with Matt Firor at the helm. He's a former Mythic Entertainment producer whose credits include Dark Age of Camelot.

There's not much else to go on as of yet, other than that you can expect traditional Elder Scrolls-style exploration alongside typical MMO social features. There'll be PvP as well, which pits three factions against each other for control of the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said Firor.

"The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made - and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.

This could end the main series for some time as it takes a hell of a lot of resources to keep a MMO going.

^^Reminds me of the Teletubbies mod in Left 4 Dead, how it was actually kind of creepier than the original content of the game.

Different developer though. From looking at the screenshots though, it looks like it was an idea that had been floating aroun since Oblivon's release rather than off the back of Skyrim. And from what I've read, it seems painfully familiar to any other standard MMO. Who can say, it may turn out great, and while an MMO off the Elder Scrolls series should be a given, I'm not fussed on MMO's in general to care to much into this right now. Especially when I'm still playing Skyrim.

i have a question about the new DLC for skyrim called dawnguard. it will be in spoiler tags

in dawnguard you can choose to join either the vampire lord group gang thing or join the dawnguard and stop the vampire lord group gang things evil plot. the evil plot is to end the sun. so if you join the vampires and end the sun will there be no sun for the remainder of the game?????
