My favorite design for Dante is the one from Devil May Cry 2.
It might not have been that great a game (especially when put up alongside the rest of the series, which is all excellent), but the design for Dante is just badass as hell. Feels a little sleeker than the others, since his usual long coat is slimmed down to just the tails hanging off the back. And the gloves, belt buckle, and vest give the whole thing kind of a "wild west" vibe. The tall collar ain't too shabby, either.
Much as I generally like his other designs, I wish they'd return to this kind of thing at some point in the future (hopefully with his cocky, trash-talking personality still intact; that was one of the main things missing from DMC2).
This was also the one that appeared in SMT: Nocturne.

I have DMC & DMC 3 and wondering if I should get DMC 2.
Def getting DMC 4 on 360

It's iffy. It's nowhere near as fun and cool as the rest of the series. It just doesn't have the personality to stand up next to them. Dante was turned into more of the "strong, silent type" in this one, which eliminates a lot of what made him cool to begin with.
And as much as I love Dante's design in it, the design work for the rest of the game is pretty lacking. The enemies feel really unoriginal and boring, and there's little to make the environments stand out.
Not to mention the fact that the story is practically absent for the majority of the game; there's next to no plot whatsoever (and that really tends to piss people off, regardless of good gameplay; just ask Dark Void).

Now, I reviewed it a few years ago, and I still stand by my opinion on it; it's not actually a terrible game, as most people will try to make you think. It can be fun to play (the gameplay is still more fun than most other games on the same genre), and the animation work for Dante is excellent (smoothest in the series). It's just that putting it alongside the rest of the series, which are all towering examples of excellence in their genre, makes DMC2 look bad.

It's like having a lineup of women made up of Christina Hendricks, Monica Bellucci, and Olga Kurylenko. Then throw in someone like, I dunno... Ashley Judd right next to those three.
She's got a good level of hotness to her, sure.
But in company like that?
She's probably a bit outmatched.

(if it wasn't obvious, Ashley Judd would be DMC2 in this equation. And just for fun... Monica Bellucci would be DMC1, Olga Kurylenko would be DMC3, and Christina Hendricks DMC4. Just because)

^^Sweet.
Might not be Joe Musashi, but I've still always loved the designs and artwork for the PS2 Shinobi. Good call.

If War & Kratos got in a fight who would win? Well let's just say this Kratos would have to leave and move with his Aunt in Bel Air.

Funny that you seemed to hate the look so much a while back. Said it was like Warcraft.
Glad you've come around to it though. Joe Mad is the shit.

I also once hated Wind Wakers look and thought he looked like an Elf from Rudolph. Time can change perspectives
