Eh I just hope at least sony lives up to keeping PS3 till 2016. This gen is still way pricey for conumers and developers to jump ship to a new gen again. The 5 year cycle needs to stop. ESP in this struggling economy.

Im couldnt agree more, Blue. However, if Wii is coming out sooner it might make the other manufacturers get nervous and bump up their dates.

They talk about this 10 year cycle but I bet that we see a new console before then. Part of them ten years will be two where they still have games coming out for the PS3 when the PS4 is new.

if they make it that far. I'm not sure they'll let nintendo dominate a whole two years. maybe 1 but they're throwing everything out of whack anyway.

I think it would be a disaster if Sony/MS release one too soon. As mentioned developers and consumers can't afford it right now. Maybe this new N system will be the DC for nintendo(not in sales failure to bankruptcy but just a bit to early for the next gen). Just seems they are rushing it. This came out of the blue. Nintendo usually is more careful to give hints at big events. Not just blurt it out.

nah they've kinda been hinting at it. plus it really is time, its been almost 6 years.

The 360 and ps3 are forcing developers into a corner, in a few different ways.

First and foremost they're royally fucking up the pc market. More and more developers need to water down their games or developing them for consoles then porting them however they do so with gameplay styles that are made specifically for mouse/keyboard setups.

second, games are getting closer and closer to the size limitations on blu ray, and alredy way past the limitations of dvd this whole digital wave really seems like a stupid idea. we need new media formats and oversized hdd aren't going to help unless we're maybe talking about an ssd, but that would mean a return to cart based media (wow i just said that aloud.)

in terms of costs I like nintendos approach, it really shows why they're the tops. They're building all of their handhelds/consoles in a way that makes them easy to develop for. By making it basicallt the same setup as the gamecube anyone who has tools or ideas based on the gamecubes setup can move the project to wii (and now 3ds and cafe) without too much of an issue. Moving a game from ps2>ps3, saturn>dc, or xbox>360 meant totally restarting.

super paper mario got moved from gcn to wii without a hitch by intelligent (while they were making 2 other games) and the sequel got moved from wii to 3ds. This was all intentional, it lowers costs and makes developing long term tools easier and less of a risk. It also makes backwards compatibility really easy.

Truthfully ninteno is where technology should have been this gen. Sony and MS tied to be like pc and thats pat of why they both have a shitty build quality and both have waaay higher failure rates then they did with their other consoles. pcs have always been stronger then consoles, this whole load of bullshit, games being ported to pc, is bad for everyone involved. Thats also why companies are spending a whole lot more on development and seeing less back, they're trying to make the sears tower with sticks and string, they're making their games very pretty but not providing enopugh of a foundation for them to un they way they should. hence in gears 2 it takes 20 seconds for the first layer of textures to load, and 10 secs more to load the last layer on every cutscene.

lol sorry if it seems a bit ranty I'm just alittle peeved at the way this industry is going.

I just don't want to be left to far behind. Wii is the last modern console I have left. Can't even afford a 10$ game much less a 400$ console. :???:

This is probably bullshit, got this from IGN.

More leaks about Project Cafe:

- Nintendo are planning a full reveal of the console, controller and 1st/2nd party games at E3.

- The console is confirmed to be backwards compatible with all Wii/Gamecube titles, and all your VC games will be transferred over once you link your credit card to the system.

- Many 3rd party developers have development kits who are supposedly hard at work to have something to show (and play) at E3.

- 3rd Parties were involved with the development of the console, with requests for what specifications they'd like to see. As of now (which could change) the system runs of a custom built IBM triple-core CPU and has 2gb RAM. The graphics chip is a custom built Radeon R700 chip.

- There is an internal SSD. Size is unknown at this point.

- It will run natively at 1080p.

- The new controller slightly resembles a Gamecube controller with a large LCD screen in the middle of it. The controller is light for its size and looks like a tablet with Gamecube-like prongs to the side. It has dual analogue sticks, face buttons, d-pad and shoulder buttons. No triggers were on the device.

- The screen on the controller is indeed a 6" LCD high resolution (reported 640 x 960 pixels) display. However, Nintendo said in order to keep battery life manageable, the controller doesn't have any hardware to produce graphics itself. The image is simply a video stream directly from the console.

- The controller uses rechargeable lithium ion batteries. Size of the battery is unknown.

- The Wiimote can be used and a new model of Wiimote will be released with the console. This new controller will have overhauled internals allowing for much more precise movement tracking than even the Wiimote Plus had.

- The Project Cafe system development kit is not representative of the final console design. The console is smaller and resembles the Japanese/European SNES models.

- Nintendo have told developers that their online system will be 'the best online experience' that's available on consoles. The whole idea of the machine is to be connected to the internet 24/7. It's being targeted as an online/social console. Friend codes are gone, but no word on whether the online service will be subscription based.

- The Pokemon RPG is the title Nintendo will be showing off their online experience with.

- As reported by other sources, Nintendo is targeting this console to the hardcore gamers once again.

- Nintendo is planning on some sophisticated inter-game communication between the 3DS and the console. Nintendo didn't explain what they're planning on.

To be shown at E3:

Nintendo:
- Pikmin 3 (playable, launch title)
- Pokemon RPG (video, launch or near launch title)
- Super Mario Bros title (playable)
- Star Fox (playable)
- Smash Bros 4 (playable)
