What if Sega and EA merged....

Postby Forklift#5 » Tue Jun 03, 2003 2:38 pm

...possibly....a new console? Think about it, It'd be a good move, first off the sports games would be the BEST by far, considering Sega and EA make the sports titles always fighting for the top spot every year, all EA's titles would also be (let's call it the DC2) DC2.
Exclusives List:
-Shenmue (of coarse)
-Sonic
-SSX
-Medal of Honor
-NFL and Madden
-MVP Baseball and World Series Baseball
-NBA Live and NBA
-all The Sims console incarnations
-NBA Street
-All Bond Games
-All LotR Games

Given the fact that the market is already saturated with 3 consoles and the likelihood of this happening in the next generation of system wars, EA and Sega probably feel it is best that they focus on software and not waste the $$$ necessary to launch a new platform in an already straining video game market. Given the beatings Sega has taken, I'm sure they have learned their lesson and will NOT be releasing any more home game systems.

I will only like an EA merger if it means that Shenmue III gets confirmed release date... otherwise it's all pointless to me.

If they merged that would be something.

10 good effects of a merge

1. Shenmue III for sure.
2. Great games for sure.
3. No more worries about money limitations.
4. Canned franchises could be restarted.
5. They would have a cool name like EA|SEGA
6. The best sports games.
7. In-house teams at SEGA would have more financial freedom.
8. Would become the worlds largest game developer and publisher.
9. Would kill the competition.
10. Shenmue III would be release before we knew it.

I would be pissed if they merged, because EA's sports games are pure shit(we all know it)...except of course NHL 2003, it's a good game, but Madden keeps the title of shit gameplay, kiddie graphics too. I mean, the sports genre would die of they did this, besides EA wouldn't make a console, I mean they are already the richest company in the US, why mess up a good thing?

This merger would be terrible. Sega is one of the most creative and original game developers today, and EA is, without a doubt, the LEAST creative developer. They release sequel after sequel of the same boring games. The Sims is the only exception to this, and they've released more expansion packs for that than I thought possible.

Sega, merge with Namco already!

There's no guarantee that EA would greenlight Shenmue III at all if a merger went through. EA expects their games to sell in large quantities and are intent on publishing "sure bets", so who knows how tolerant they would be on releasing more riskier titles that sell under 200,000 copies.

I'll stand by my original statement saying that the only way we'd see Shenmue III from a resulting merger would be if MICROSOFT bought Sega. Microsoft has a vested interest in ensuring that the series comes to a conclusion since it is THEY who approved and published Shenmue II for the XBOX. They already know what to expect in terms of sales as well, and they can take the risk because they want to appeal to the broadest range of gamers to ensure that they are happy with the XBOX platform which will be VERY important when the XBOX 2 is released!

If Sega merged with EA I would probably be let go, it would be too confusing. Sega would have to figure out what to do with the development teams. It would be a total mess. So it wouldnt be a good idea.
