Randomly stumbled upon this one and thought it looked pretty cool. The game looks weird as all hell. Creepy naked cyborgs getting arms ripped off and fistfighting each other. Wouldn't mind playing it, actually.
Either way, that boxart is pretty eye-catching.

First of all have to say -- only 10 hours in and I love Tales of Symphonia. I was so against this series for whatever stupid reason but I'm glad I decided to play it. Love the box art too.

I'd also say this is one of those instances where the American art is better (at least I think so) than the Japanese box art

Japanese Art:

Totally random bump, but this art caught my eye when I saw it.

This is the sort of wispy, 80s/early-90s art style that I'd love to see in a series like Ys again, for example. I still haven't played through Celcetta, partly because I didn't like the stark-lined, "modern anime" direction they've taken the series in from a visual design standpoint, and Ys SEVEN was much the same.
But yeah, I wish a watercolored style like this would make a comeback. There's just something so attractive and nostalgic about it, and nobody seems to draw quite like this anymore.

Same artist who did the Phantasy Star Mega Drive covers, Hitoshi Yoneda.

Yes! And a very under rated game.

I've been looking for information on what Hitoshi Yoneda has done illustrations for (who did the artwork for some Phantasy Star games, Sorcerian, Xanadu, and more), or even on collections of his work, but God is it really frustrating. The internet is of no help to me.. maybe if I spoke Japanese but who knows?

I have these two PC88 games, Sorcerian Additional Scenario Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and they come with some pretty cool artwork. I know that Hitoshi Yoneda worked for Falcom and did the artwork for the first Sorcerian, but I'm not sure if this art was done by him or not... although it certainly looks like it was. I can't be sure though.

Anyway, I took some pics.

The artwork is super cool, and I think he's the artist, but I'm not sure and could be wrong, so I'd like to be certain.

Also, I thought this was kind of interesting, all though not Boxart for a video game, this was instead done for a board game.

If only the game matched the awesomeness of the box art...

^^My experience with Double Dragon has always been a little limited; always liked them, but never owned any. But yeah, I always thought that boxart was fantastic. It's just so... exemplary of what I think of when early beat-em-ups come to mind.

I've recently become very fond of the art of Jun Suemi. I'd seen his art on various boxes over the years, but never realized they were all the work of the same guy. The guy seems completely at home whether he's working on gothic fantasy or hard sci-fi subject matter.

He also did the character art for Front Mission 2, and a large number of other works outside of videogames.
Truly a great fantasy artist.
