Yeah, just saw this.

Actually, I saw this coming from the very day they took BC "away". There were inside leaks that all PS3s can emulate PS2 via software measures but Sony purposefully blocked it to sell PS2 games via PSN in the future. Everything turned out true today.

Oh, I almost forgot - the are reports that EU gets Classic PS2 titles as well, but it's not clear whether it's about these particular titles or other PS2 games.

We’ve just spoken to Sony and can confirm that European PS3 owners can also look forward to PS2 games coming to their console – exciting news for anyone doubting the validity of our earlier post this morning.

“The Only On PlayStation Network programme is for the SCEA region only,” said a SCEE spokesperson to TheSixthAxis.

“However, we will be bringing the majority of the content to the SCEE audience, including Classic PS2 titles.” Note the capital letter, which might suggest that’s the official line.

It sounds like it doesn’t end there, either.

“We have numerous exciting offers that we will be introducing to PSN users throughout our region in the lead up to Christmas and look forward to sharing these with you.”

Exciting stuff, if Sony can get the right PS2 titles out there for us…

Unless there is much difference to the PS2 versions I'll stick to the orginals.

There is no difference. These are PS2 games emulated on PS3.

If the library gets big enough, many will love this as it will be very convenient to have everything on one console's HDD.

I'll certainly be using the JP and PAL ones. If I see something like Altered Beast, Bezerk, Namco X Capcom etc, its a cheap and easy way of getting the game, just need to pump some points into one of my 3 accounts.

Oh God, Berserk will be bought so damned hard if it gets released on JP PSN. It might mean we in Europe get some PS2 games we missed out on too if those get US PSN release, like Eternal Poison, Suikoden III, Front Mission 4, Skygunner, Growlanser Generations, Tsugunai: Atonement and tons more that I'm interested in.

Win, win all around. Open the floodgates, Sony.

I'm still pissed they haven't gotten around to releasing suikoden 2. With a psp release incoming why not just throw it out there, get the whole series playable "only on psn"

Because Konami are completely incompetent? They're competing with Capcom for me as worst run Japanese company this gen.

Wonder if next week will have a few more, although its a shame they don't allow people to play hardcopies of these games.

Maximo and Ring of Red alone are worth far more than 90% of current-gen games. :nice!:
