Ihad no interest till I saw this. Is this Yakuza Hong Kong?

I'm floored by the visuals and yes Shenmue comes to mind just because of setting and detail. (Yes I know Yakuza)

Hmmmmmm, its the Shenmue v Yakuza situation, but with this "True Crime" game. Its more or less Yakuza with more GTA elements included in the gameplay (stealing cars, shooting etc) as compared to Yakuzas arcade style button smashing fight scenes. From what i have read, there are Need for Speed racing elements, and also the combat systen is that from Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Looks good and all, but hate to judge....... another Shenmue clone thats missing the true elements that make Shenmue what it is. Basically it looks like GTA Hong Kong.

 Shenmue Clone? Sorry but there is no such thing. If you want to get technical Shenmue is a clone of every point and click adventure 1998 and backwards. You have to be a major success before others clone you. I only made the comparison in setting and graphical detail. Everything else in both Yakuza & Sleeping Dogs isa totally different game. As much a difference as Sonic racing is to Forza.

It was originally it's own game until their publisher slapped the True Crime tag on there, then it got dropped, and picked up by Square Enix, who've been making some surprisingly excellent moves in the industry recently.

Been keepin my eye on this game for a while, and whilst it's bound to get a little repetitive and the mini-games will become stale very fast, I reckon it'll be a great title.

Well, Square-Enix have Eidos (European division) making the vast majority of the good decisions. :)

Anyway, yeah, I'm surprised somebody like Orange isn't looking forward to this, seems really up his alley, since he really liked Dead to Rights: Retribution and all (with its mixture of gunplay and beat 'em up, which this seems to have in spades). I've got it on pre-order anyway, hope it's good as it looks.

That's soon to change. Just look at the new Hitman and Tomb Raider (which, btw, is strikingly similar to one of my old game designs, which has pissed me right off) They're also developing a new Championship Manager game that might actually rival Football Manager for a change. Funny though that their best(-looking) games are all acquisitions.

Check out Aberdeen in Sleeping Dogs. Looks very reminiscent of the beginning of Shenmue II. Pretty sweet. I'm not into GTA-type games, but I'm definitely going to pick this up and play through the main story.
