Franchises that need a small hiatus **READ FIRST**

** First of all this isn't a hate topic. Meaning just because you don't like it does not mean it needs hiatus. This means a series that has been stagnated or is just too much in the last few years. With that said let's start.

Sonic

Now Sonic Colors & Sonic Generations are great games. The best 3D sonics for sure. Here is the thing they did 2 great retail releases and Sonic Generations is the perfect stamp esp the ending to let Sonic take a few year break. I'm not talking games like Sega racing. Just the main series. (oh and can the Sonic Riders as they are shovelware) I think 2012 was the first time in years we did not have a retail release. Maybe SEGA is taking a small break?

Final Fantasy

It's fair to say ever since FFXIII it has divided fans. Some like it some hate it. XII-2 divided fans more. The series to put it nicely has taken an interesting spin. Maybe not the good kind of interesting. Square while it maybe getting the sales yet other smaller developers are innovating the genre of the JRPG. Note Xenoblade & The Last Story. Now with Square announcing a 3rd XIII game one that has cause another internet uproar. It's safe to say Square does not really know what to do with the series anymore. Many want Vs XIII and it's been rumored it has been delayed til next gen as Final Fantasy XV. Some think it's vaporware. However this is the game most want yet Square seems unwilling to deliver. If they can't deliver what fans want then maybe the series needs to take a long break.

Man, I only wish there were a XII-2.

As for the topic, I don't think anything necessarily needs a break. Breaks don't really help anything. It's just a matter of whether the output itself is quality or not.
With Sonic for example, they were releasing new games in the series consistently all the way up to the time of Colors' and Generations' releases, and many fans consider them among the best in the series. Would those games have been as good if the outpuit before them hadn't been as consistent?
Hard to say yes, hard to say no, but I don't really think a break would have been helpful in the matter.

Assassins Creed could do with a break after III for me. Staleness is setting in IMO.

Another series I need to try. Maybe by demo.

OL would the topic be better if I said reboot? and edit the first post to different franchises?

I think they'd just rather have that thing shot like a rabid dog with rabies never to be resurrected again. Make it like the DmC reboot never happened.

I see it's been uncensored. It's not Call of Poo automatically anymore.

Could that guy that's been playing the same game of Civ2 for the past more-than-a-decade count in this? ;-)

Call of Duty. I remember the original blowing me away (quite literally at times, obviously) It was just leaps and bounds ahead Medal of Honour, and gave what felt like a VERY authentic experience. Now, whenever I play one round at my mates, it's all just so... "yeah, and?" They need to take a break, absorb all the feedback, take a look at what makes them so good, and what people dislike about them, then just hit everyone with an instalment that cries "try slaggin us off NOW!" whilst simultaneously droppin a nuke on everythin you ever thought about the franchise.

...but it'll never happen...

Halo

Even though I like its multiplayer. It seems like they could take more time in between games. Theirs been 4 games on 360 alone with a 5th coming out in November. I will buy it but honestly whatever happened to the days where grulling long development time lead us to Halo 2, arguably the best entry in the series.

Assasins Creed

Again a game I will buy, but did we really need two sequels to AC2? Just makes AC3 less special of an impact.

Pokemon

nuff said.

Call of Duty

Should just move to calling it CoD 2012, 2013, 2014

World of Warcraft

The game from 2005 that keeps getting expansion packs instead of a proper sequel. Now you can beat a dead horse up to level 9001.

[-X

Each title consistently great with a release schedule of every 3-4 years. Why does it need a hiatus?

I know, just felt like making a shit joke. ;-) To take a hiatus from actual human civilization, Eve or WoW would be a better bet!
