I could post Snatcher tracks all day, especially since the various versions of the game have such different tunes.

Was just looking through my PS3 games, trying to look for ones that might have also been released on PC. On kind of a kick lately, getting games from that era and seeing how well they run on my system.
Well one game I ran across that wasn't released on PC was Asura's Wrath, and just seeing it made me start thinking about how goddamn much I always loved it back in the day. Only about five years ago now, but it strangely feels older, probably because of how quickly it built up nostalgia for me.
Being a game all about an angry god punching things, it very easily could have been just a flat, goofy actioner, but I always remember the soundtrack really giving it such a great emotional backbone.
This is basically just the theme, but man... every time I hear it, it's friggin magic.

Gimme a damn remaster already. The graphical work was insane in that game. Would be amazing to see it running on all cylinders on current tech.

This main theme is so inappropriate for a medieval fantasy setting, but it sure stood out from the crowd and it is so easy to the ears. Later I've come to learn this rock duo are one of the best selling artists in Japan (or the world) and one of them even went as far as to win a Grammy Award! A Japanese artist... Mind blown.

Anyway, gotta love the English word salad and the energy alone...

Later the definitive version of the game changed its main theme to a more conventional one, but haunting...

Hard to pick a fave for me in this case.

Junya Nakano. 1993. Konami.

Before he would compose for Threads of Fate & FFX, he composed crazy hardcore 90s electronic beats for Konami arcade games. Very reminiscent of the legendary Namco Sound Team.

Playing this game at the moment, and damn, whatta sense of atmosphere. There is, admittedly, not a lot of variation in the music, and the majority of it is much more ambient than melodic. But that first series of notes -- roughly that first 25 seconds -- tends to be heard a lot (every time you load back in; and as easy as it is to die, that might happen a lot). Good little "theme," so to speak, and it matches the game wonderfully.

Absolutely beautiful piece of music and an equally worthy game to go along with it.

Second one sounds closer to something Falcom does in their more recent Ys games.

Norio Hanzawa is another underrated composer that I follow; Gunstar Heroes, Guardian Heroes, Dynamite Headdy and Mischief Makers are probably his most known works and most Genesis/Mega Drive fans would recognise his work right away.

He is also the composer of various Konami games (such as The Simpsons Arcade, Castlevania and Contra) before that development team left to form Treasure. Listened to his work various times over the years just felt he's worth highlighting since his musical style is unique and heard in so many games and yet not a name that well known despite being in such highly acclaimed games.

His music evokes such a uniquely 90s style and sometimes get so weird. His synth work veers off into sounding quite strange (Stretch Panic/Freak Out OST, for example; Mischief Makers, Astro Boy GBA, Advance Guardian Heroes and Dynamite Headdy other prime examples). I really like his Sin & Punishment 2 OST as well. Shame his work is so often ignored despite it enhancing the games overall so much.

Doing a replay of SH2 for the first time since the PS2 era and being reminded of Akira Yamaoka's OST.
Masterpiece. Probably still his best work yet.
