There is, and you have already stated what that is:

Indeed. - However, the point is that for games with heart / choice & consequence / interactive-storytelling/fiction/art (a form of variety), there is not an established/stable/big market to (always) support them, as with other games such as CoD (and other cliché examples of such kind of saturated games you can find) and their consumer-base/market.

The feedback cycle between consumers of the former kind of interactive entertainment and the quantity of such kind of products has yet to grow to a decent/impactful level, but it seems it is getting there. (It would happen even quicker if Shenmue made a successful return.) - And, of course, not all of those need to bring qualities of drama, political issues et cetera into their context; evidently, they can also bring light-hearted, bright, cheerful, hopeful themes, too.

Personally agree with Riku, we do need more funny games. We used to get a ton back in the 90s and 00s thanks in large part to adventure games from the likes of Sierra, LucasArts etc and a mini resurgence on the Nintendo DS. Nowadays everything seems far more geared to "drama" or "dark and gritty". Not that I don't enjoy games like that, it's just variety is the spice of life and I love my spice.

I personally also feel that comedy writing is also much harder than writing these dark/gritty stories that they do so much of now.

^ people can say what they want about modern sega but I loved the diversity in games they had last gen even if they can be hit and miss sometimes (well that's mainly sonic but they did put out 2 good sonic platformers and 2 incredible racing games and of course colonial marines was horrible but that was due to outsourcing it)

Too bad theyre not going to put much effort in to the console business anymore. Up until now there has always been a quality sega game for whatever mood i'm in.

Wii U finally gets the no. 1 spot in Japan for the first time since its release, thanks in large part to Splatoon, which sold over 100,000 more copies than paedobait did.

Splatoon claiming seizing number one on its debut week.

Splatoon sold 145,000 units, and more than doubled the weekly sales of the Wii U. That put Nintendo's console at the top of the hardware chart - a rare sight, even in Japan - though it still sold only 17,000 units in total. Splatoon, while popular, isn't quite the system-seller that Nintendo imagined its first attempt at a shooter might be.

After a very impressive start, CD Projekt's The Witcher 3 fell to third place, with Sega's Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX slotting in at second.

The software top ten, courtesy of Media Create, is below:

1. [Wii U] Splatoon (Nintendo, 05/28/15) - 144,818 (New)
2. [3DS] Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX (Sega, 05/28/15) - 41,442 (New)
3. [PS4] The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Spike Chunsoft, 05/21/15) - 22,454 (89,839)
4. [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (SCE, 03/19/15) - 12,449 (179,625)
5. [Wii U] Mario Kart 8 (Nintendo, 05/29/14) - 11,654 (1,006,719)
6. [PSV] Cross Ange: Rondo of Angels and Dragons tr. (Bandai Namco, 05/28/15) - 11,215 (New)
7. [3DS] Downtown Nekketsu Jidaigeki (Arc System Works, 05/28/15) - 9,444 (New)
8. [3DS] Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition (GungHo Online Entertainment, 04/30/15) - 8,920 (252,479)
9. [3DS] Assassination Classroom: Grand Siege on Kurosensei (Bandai Namco, 03/12/15) - 6,620 (75,242)
10. [PSV] Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence with Power-Up Kit (Koei Tecmo, 05/28/15) - 6,360 (New)
And the hardware chart:

1. Wii U - 17,313 (7,611)
2. PlayStation Vita - 12,517 (11,352)
3. PlayStation 4 - 12,272 (12,096)
4. New 3DS LL - 11,170 (10,134)
5. New 3DS - 4,129 (3,609)
6. PlayStation 3 - 3,069 (2,627)
7. 3DS - 1,418 (687)
8. 3DS LL - 919 (827)
9. PlayStation Vita TV - 529 (423)
10. Xbox One - 522 (308)

Aw, damn, I didn't even know they'd made a new version of that. I wish Aksys or someone would pick it up for localization. It's one of those insta-buy situations for me, if they were to bring it over.

Its kinda funny we even still pay attention to sales numbers in Japan. The highest selling system gets 17,000 shipped and 7,000 sold? Its a joke this market here. Smartphone games have taken over so tremendously.

And PSV TV sold more than the Xbox One at 308. lol... thats the saddest thing ive ever seen.
A small town in Idaho probably sells more Xboxes then all of Japan.

No lie another gaijin friend of mine went into a game store and asked for an Xbox One when it launched here. The person had no idea it was coming out that day or what it was. The person thought he was asking for an Original Xbox at first.

Also a store by me recently just simply stoped selling it and expanded the PS4 section past where the XBO section was.
