Sonic 25th reveals - Sonic Mania and 'Project Sonic 2017'

New video with the full Green Hill Zone and Studiopolis in good quality popped up.

Some new things I learned from this: The 1 Up jingle is a remix of the one from Sonic 3 and they also brought the hidden giant rings back from there too. I like this, they are by far my favorite method of entering the special stage.

I think they are just wireframes because it's a demo. Later in the video the player passes by another ring while he has more than 50 rings with him and the ring is still just a wireframe.

It looks really good and fun, but a little bit overdesigned.

A little too much visual clutter, and bifurcations on the stages.

Sega announced a collectors edition. Great they have something physical.
No game disc, no soundtrack and US only is really dumb however.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Really nice items, and I'm not bothered about a soundtrack CD, but a collector's edition without a physical game disc seems very odd, and only releasing it in America is a big disappointment to other fans who now have to pay rather staggering shipping fees if they want it badly enough.

Quiet you, we missed out on the Sonic Gens CE. I was rendered Collector's Edition-less, forced to make do with a regular copy of the game. #FirstWorldProblems

This Sonic 2 style commercial...

The live stream from last night shed a little more light on how the game will be constructed. Apparently it will feature more remakes of classic zones than new ones. I personally don't mind that too much, when they'll give us zones from 1,2,3 and CD but more new stuff would've been nice.

^^I haven't properly looked up much on it yet, but to me that almost sounds even better than getting a bunch of new stuff. The whole point of doing a game like this is to tap into that nostalgia nerve many of us have for the old games, so if they take the old level materials from earlier games and remake the levels with them, provide new areas with old graphical elements and whatnot (that's what it sounds like you're saying), I'll just about be in heaven with it.
New stuff is cool, of course, but if I can get more Mystic Cave Zone, Hill Top Zone, or Mushroom Hill Zone, I'm fucking sold, even if it is digital-only.

TBH there is something tempting about that Sonic Mania CE. I dont know if its just the genesis and sonic statue, the actual gold ring that comes with it, but something is telling me I want it. But... no fucking physical copy? just a damn download key? WEAK SAUCE!

Doing CE's for non physical games... IDK. I saw some other stuff like this recently. Disgaea 2 CE box to go along with the upcoming steam version of the game, only thing is this CE doesnt even come with the game at all! $80 and they cant even throw in a copy of the game much less even a download key? WEAK SAUCE!

But yeah, still something appealing to me about that Sonic CE, probably just nostalgia. GameStop release date says its coming out May 30, guess I have until then to decide.

The ring isn't actually gold, if that helps. Says so in small print at the end of the retro trailer.
