Dangan Ronpa 3 (Anime) and Dangan Ronpa V3 (Game.)

Postby Ash » Thu Aug 25, 2016 4:32 pm

Not sure if this should go in General Gaming or Off Topic?

Dangan Ronpa 3 is an anime split into two sides, Future and Despair, and is intended to end the Hope's Peak story. The next Dangan Ronpa game, V3, will be a reboot, though Monokuma will still be in.

The Future side airs on Monday, Despair side airs on Thursday. Funimation are providing both subbed and dubbed versions on their website.

The Future side takes place after Dangan Ronpa 2 - the heads of the Future Foundation are forced into one final killing game, the final battle between Hope and Despair. There are no trials in this game, instead, there are phases where everyone except for the attacker/killer are put to sleep; leaving the killer to free to eliminate one of the participants. In addition to this, each of the participants has a "forbidden" action; if the participant violates their forbidden action, they are killed by poison administered via a bracelet the participants are wearing.

The Despair side covers events leading up to Dangan Ronpa 1 and 2.

As the end to the Hope's Peak story, you really need to have played Dangan Ronpa 1, 2 and Ultimate Despair Girls, as well as read Dangan Ronpa 0. The games are out in English, but Dangan Ronpa 0 has never been officially translated, though there are fan-translations around.

Each side has twelve episodes, right now, seven of each side have been aired.

I loved Danganronpa 1 and 2 and I even enjoyed the spin off, but does this mean we won't see 3 in game form? Is it just an anime?

Dangan Ronpa 3 is an anime. There's a new Dangan Ronpa game called V3 that's due to come out at the start of next year.

The anime is finished now. General impressions are that the anime started off quite strong, but declined towards the end - quick overview below for those who can't/won't watch the anime, and are interested in how the Hope's Peak story ended:

Three former Hope's Peak students, the former Ultimate Student Council President, (Munakata) Boxer (Juzo) and Housekeeper (Chisa) become suspicious that Hope's Peak is corrupt (which it was, well before Junko became a student), and decide to investigate. Munakata goes to help Hope's Peak with building a new facility overseas, Juzo becomes head of security, and Chisa becomes the teacher for the DR2 cast.

Hope's Peak paid Hajime's fees for the reserve course, on condition that he agree to become the subject for the Kamakura project. Hajime agreed to attend the reserve course, but initially has doubts about agreeing to the project.

Chiaki is a real person; she starts out as being rather less friendly and approachable as the AI Chiaki. Chisa helps Chiaki come out of her shell by getting Chiaki to play games with the other DR2 students, and is named class rep, as she is the hope of the DR2 class.

Hajime spends a lot of time staring at the main Hope's Peak campus, wishing he had a talent. While doing this, Chiaki literally walks into him, while playing a game. Hajime recognises the game Chiaki was playing, and the two end up becoming friends. They spend so long playing together at one point, Chisa comes looking for Chiaki, and ends up meeting Hajime.

The DR2 class has another student that didn't participate in the DR killing game, Mitarai, the Ultimate Anime creator, who is pouring everything he has into making an anime that will bring hope to the world. To achieve this, Mitarai uses the power of suggestion in his anime. To allow Mitarai to continue his work, the Ultimate Impostor takes Mitarai's position in the class.

Chiaki, Chisa, and the former headmaster of Hope's Peak, Tengan, all try to convince Hajime that not having a talent doesn't really mean that much.

Natsumi, Fuyuhiko's sister transfers into the reserve course to be near Fuyuhiko. She also feels useless because of her lack of talent, and she bonds with Hajime over it. When Natsumi is killed, Hajime tries to go into the main Hope's Peak campus to investigate Natsumi's murder, but is beaten up and spat on by Juzo, whom mocks Hajime for being talentless. Chisa intervenes, and when Hajime leaves, Juzo admits the reason he was so harsh to Hajime was because he thought Hajime would end up dead if Hajime poked around too much.

Between Juzo's attack and wanting to become talented like Chiaki, Hajime agrees to the Kamakura project (it's also revealed that his parents agreed to it as well.) During the process, Hope's Peak decide that Hajime's personality doesn't match their vision for the ultimate hope, and they willfully delete Hajime's personality, along with his memories.

Exam time comes, Nagito asks for the exams to be postponed as everyone is down after Natsumi's death. Chisa is forced to decline Nagito's request, as the exams are covered by the press. Nagito decides to slip the examiners some laxative to stop the exams, and if that fails, to blow up the hall where the exams are taking place as a last resort. Nagito goes to get some laxative from the Ultimate Pharmacist, Seiko, but forgets the name of the drug he needs, and ends up picking up a performance enhancing drug instead. At the same time, the Ultimate Confectioner, Ruruka, who has long had a rather poisonous friendship with Seiko appears with her boyfriend, Izayoi, the Ultimate Blacksmith, to get a drug from Seiko that she can put in her sweets to pass her exam. Ruruka ends up taking the laxative instead. On exam day, Ruruka accidentally poisons the judges, ends up in a fight with Seiko, and Nagito's bomb goes off. As a result, Ruruka, Seiko and Izayoi are all expelled. Jin Kirigiri decides that Nagito's luck is too important to lose, so Nagito ends up indefinitely suspended, and Chisa is demoted to teach the reserve course.

Chisa spends six months teaching the reserve course, during that time, Chisa hears about the Kamakura project, and Chiaki steps up as class rep and holds the DR 2 class together in Chisa absence. When Chisa returns to the DR2 class, Chisa gets a pass from Juzo to break into a restricted area to find out more information.

The DR1 class students are scouted; there's a note that Junko was recruited by the board of Hope's Peak, rather than the talent scout.

Mitarai passes out from exhaustion from working too hard on his anime. The Imposter confesses to Mikan that he has been impersonating Mitarai, and takes Mikan to Mitarai to check on him after his collapse.

Junko manages to break into the room where Kamakura is kept - it turns out they both have Ultimate Analytic abilities, which causes both of them to become bored with the world, as there is little they can't predict. Junko manages to interest Kamakura by telling him that despair is the one thing that can't be predicted.

Junko meets Mitarai by chance, and immediately realises that "their meeting was fated". She talks Mitarai into showing her his anime, and after Junko sees it, and Mitarai admits that his anime basically involves brainwashing, Junko uses her analytical talent on the anime to see how Mitarai incorporated the brainwashing. Junko sets Mitarai up in a new location to work on his anime. Mikan goes to search for Mitarai, ends up captured, and is shown the protype film Junko made using Mitarai's techniques to brainwash people into despair rather than hope, converting Mikan to Ultimate Despair.

Junko kidnaps the student council, and forces them to kill each other. Izuru is also present, and although he just observes to start with, he is shot at and lightly injured during the game, to his surprise. Junko films the mutual killing and emails it out to the reserve course students, whom start rioting against the main campus.

Nagito shows up after more than a year of being suspended, and joins the class as they go to search for Mikan, whom hasn't returned since being brainwashed. Nagito pairs off with Chiaki, and Nagito leads her down to the room where Junko is hiding, and attempts to shoot Junko. Izuru appears from behind Nagito, causing Nagito to turn on Izuru and attempt to shoot Izuru, only for the gun to jam. Izuru takes the gun from Nagito and shoots Nagito instead, but fails to kill Nagito.

Mitarai escapes during all of this, and runs straight into Chisa, who immediately goes to save Nagito and Chiaki. Chisa finds the secret room, and distracts Junko by throwing a fire extinguisher at her. Chiaki and Nagito escape, but Chisa is captured. Chiaki and Nagito make it back to their classroom (where Mikan has shown up), and Chiaki immediately rallies the other students to save Chisa, despite Nagito trying to persuade them not to go to Chisa's aid, as the students are up against something they can't defeat.

Chisa is shown the brainwashing video. Unlike Mikan, she resists, and her brain is physically tampered with to make her succumb. When the students enter Junko's hideout, Mikan detains Chiaki, and then pushes Chiaki through a secret door where Ultimate Despair Chisa is waiting for her. Chisa pretends that she is still normal, and leads Chiaki to a lift, which she pushes Chiaki through. Meanwhile, Mikan leads the students to an underground courtroom. Chiaki is made to go through a long, painful execution, which is shown to the students in the courtroom, brainwashing them into becoming Ultimate Despair. Izuru comes up to Chiaki in her last moments; Chiaki apologies for not helping Hajime, and tries to stand despite horrific injuries, which confuses Izuru. After Chiaki dies, Izuru picks up her hair pin, and realises that he's crying.

The Reserve Course students get into the main campus and start killing the students there. Chisa helps the DR2 class fake their death by blowing up their classroom so they can go out into the world and spread despair. Chisa herself remains in the classroom to be found by Munakata, whom has no idea that Chisa is brainwashed.

Izuru decides to leave Junko after memory wiping the DR2 class so they have no memory of meeting him. Izuru still has Chiaki's hair pin, and wants to see whether Chiaki's hope is stronger than Junko's despair.

The Future Foundation is formed after the tragedy, founded by Tengan. Munakata recruits Seiko. Ruruka and Izayoi are also recruited, as are the former Ultimate Farmer, former Ultimate Therapist, and talent scout. Juzo, Chisa and Mitarai also end up in the Future Foundation, with Chisa heading up the division responsible for intel on despair.

Makoto is called to trial after saving the DR2 class. Tengan decides to take the opportunity to take a leaf out of Junko's book, and get Mitarai to create a video that can brainwash people; although Tengan wants to brainwash people into hope, rather than despair. To achieve this, Tengan sets up the final killing game, with the intent of it being broadcast to the Future Foundation, including Mitarai, pushing Mitarai to brainwash the world. Chisa finds out about this plan, and sabotages it, inviting Mitarai at the last moment to the trial, so he too is forced to participate in the final killing game.

Most of the participants are killed during the final killing game, including Chisa, Juzo and Tengan - of all the new DR3 characters, only Munakata and Mitarai survive. It is revealed half way through the game that the Ultimate Therapist was actually killed by Monaca prior to the game, and replaced with an identical robot which Monaca is now controlling. Komaru and Toko track Monaca down, only to find that she's given up on both hope and despair after seeing how obsessed Nagito is, and ends up going into space.

Izuru is still part of Hajime; Hajime now has one red eye, and occasionally calls things boring. Hajime also has Izuru's talents, and used them to wake up the comatose DR 2 students. The students are now all on good terms with each other (including Nagito.) Fuyuhiko is missing an eye, and Nagito now has a robotic hand, but aside from that, the students appear exactly as they did in DR2.

When the game finally ends, Mitarai snaps and decides to brainwash the world as Tengan wanted. Makoto tries to stop Mitarai, but is stopped by a special task force. Nagito saves Makoto, and the other DR2 students fight their way to Mitarai, where Hajime and the Imposter convince Mitarai to stop his brainwashing plan and instead to go with the rest of the DR2 class, as they are all on a journey to atone for their actions as Ultimate Despair.

The DR2 cast send a broadcast out to the Future Foundation as Ultimate Despair and claim responsibility for the final killing game, realising that if it was discovered that the head of the Future Foundation himself was the one that created the final killing game, the Future Foundation would collapse.

Hajime, Mitarai, and the rest of the DR2 students leave by ship, where they start celebrating. Hajime has a vision of AI Chiaki, whom explains the reason she looks like Chiaki, even though they are different people, is because when the New World Programme scanned their memories, it found Chiaki was the one person all the DR2 cast missed. AI Chiaki fades away.

Makoto ends up as the new headmaster of Hope's Peak. Kyouko also seems to be working at Hope's Peak. Munakata goes off by himself. It's not shown whether Togami, Hina and Hiro also started working at Hope's Peak.

Also, there's been some DRV3 news - the game takes place in a prison for the "gifted", and the playable character this time is a female called Kaede Akamatsu.

I know this is an old thread, but was wondering - have you completed Danganronpa V3 yet? I'm quite far into the game and am really enjoying it.
