Obvious reasons? What would those be?

It would have to be remarkable to top Akira or GITS 1/2 though.

If you go into it looking to compare it to movies like those, then you might be disappointed. While both of those are very heady, intellectual kinds of stories, Bebop is all about just plain good storytelling and emotional impact. So it'd be kind of like comparing a Silent Hill game with Shenmue. Both have completely different goals, so it doesn't make much sense to compare them.
I have no doubt you'll like it when you finally get around to watching it, just take note that it's nothing like GITS or Akira.

They left so much content out of the Akira movie it was not even funny. I mean the most obvious thing was the fact that Akira was basically absent for almost the entire movie.

Considering the mangas are the size of phonebooks and the movie is like barely two hours long, that seriously does not come as a surprise.

Even at a time where trilogies and 3 hours time spans were basically unheard of.

Kenny is writing a script at the moment for a film after the failed Dojo movie based on how to get away with doing no work at the office and just surf the internet all day.

It gets annoying when movie makers completely twist the original story and turn it into something it should not be. They did it with Deathnote also.

Very interesting read:
Cowboy Bebop Anime Writer Expresses Frustrations With Industry

As for above, you should take things at face value. Obviously the manga were the authentic experience. To make movies though you have to concede in some ways to reach other things. I really liked Akira's movie, and having read a few mangas, didn't like them as much.
Ôsamu Tezuka was perhaps more efficient in that his mangas were very easily translated into movies.

If Akira was to be more faithful to the manga it should have been an anime. But that wouldn't be as powerful as the movie was, when it came out.

Dai Sato should just leave Japan and come write for Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network. then everyone will be happy. We get cool shit and Japan can have emptyheaded doe eyed girls(in their anime) :nice!:
