Sure there are greedy ass companies that exploit the hell out of artists but if you don't buy a product, that can inadvertently hurt the artist. Especiallly a small time artist or really ambitious one that is talented and is trying to get their big break. Bigger well-established artists can survive alright. Unless they specifically put their work out for free (xkcd, brad sucks, ect) its not free. I pirate sometimes too, and other pirate cause they cannot have access to the material in their area or what have you, but its stupid to think people are doing this thinking its some sort of right or Robin Hood kind of deal.

Amen brother, amazing post :P.

Kenny is writing a script at the moment for a film after the failed Dojo movie based on how to get away with doing no work at the office and just surf the internet all day.

Unfortunately, it isn't just black and white like that. Where the problem occurs is with shows, events and movies. If I missed a PPV event, I would have to wait until about half a year to a a year later to see it pop up in store for a ridiculous price. I like Anime. I have to wait a super long time to see 10 episodes of a 300 episode epic pop up in the store priced at $40- $60! That's ridiculous and the companies know that. This is the reason pirating and other illegal things will continue. That's why I started using them in the first place. I'm actually more of a DVD person and preferred to buy things until it all started getting out of hand like this.

Many gaming second hand shops also sell anime dirt cheap on DVD. Like 5$ a pop. Alo I got all of GiTS on amazon new for 5-7$ each volume.
The fact you live in NYC,there has to be TONNES of second hand shops or specialty places. It's finding them but with google and google maps and stuff should be much easier.

One way I found many shops not even in my state but still have a site and have good prices it collectors channels on Youtube have links or shoutouts to good stores, even sometimes doing a video on the store they get thier stuff from.
Yeah a little work goes into looking for them but better than ISP shutting you down and possible big fines or worse.

So many other ways to get access to DVDs, anime, whatever why even bother torrenting? There's always Netflix/Hulu/LoveFilm..
