It's been great to see Deathstroke's popularity soar in recent years thanks to projects like Arrow and Arkham Origins, but DC's master assassin hasn't had a comic worthy of his reputation in some time. That appears to finally be changing thanks to DC Rebirth. Leave it to the writer who dramatically overhauled Black Panther in the late '90s to do the same for Slade Wilson now.

Yeah, that review makes it sound a little more spot-on to what I like to see in Deathstroke. Been hearing good things about the entire DC Rebirth line, actually. I was never a fan of some of the stuff I'd heard was done with the New 52, so I'm glad they decided to do this whole Rebirth thing. Seems to have brought most of the characters closer to their original incarnations.

DC Films' Geoff Johns and Jon Berg on Lightening the Tone of Their Upcoming Movies
“We accelerated the story [of Justice League] to get to the hope and optimism a little faster."
by Jim Vejvoda

DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and veteran Warner Bros. executive Jon Berg, who came aboard to co-run DC Films in May, have a clear mission: To make the DC Extended Universe lighter and more hopeful going forward.

“Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong,” Johns told the Wall Street Journal. “It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop.”

And although the now-filming Justice League was, according to the paper, always meant to be "less depressing than Batman v Superman," Johns and Berg, along with Justice League director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio, nevertheless made changes to the screenplay after the negative backlash towards the gloomy BvS.

“We accelerated the story to get to the hope and optimism a little faster,” said Berg.

Johns will apply the same approach he took to spearheading DC Comics' successful "Rebirth" relaunch to his work on the DCEU. “We’re trying to take a really hard look at everything to make sure we stay true to the characters and tell stories that celebrate them."

Along with with star-director Ben Affleck, Johns is co-scripting a solo Batman movie, which WSJ says could hit theaters as soon as 2018. Johns also informed the paper that Magic Mike and True Blood's Joe Manganiello will play the film's villain, Deathstroke.

Aw, cool. I hadn't noticed that they actually altered the costume. The segmented armor looks good.
The welding goggles make him look like a Hollywood housewife circa 1962 though.

Jesus. I was already looking forward to it, but damn. Cyborg looks awesome as fuck, and he was the character I kind of cared the least about before (never really followed Teen Titans). Yeah, Aquaman is gonna be a serious highlight, and I've been saying that since the moment Momoa was cast. And fuck me, it's really nice to once again see a Barry Allen who isn't a mopey emo grump. The recent season of the Flash tv show has been absolute shit, so it'll be nice to see a sort of mini-revamp with this flick.
November feels so far away.

Same here. Great casting decision.
