As much as i don't like pointing out one player and one moment, that Messi penalty was the turning point, after that miss Barca simply did not look the same.

Also, Valdes is a complete moron, he made a real hash of it for Madrid's two goals at the weekend and he ran out into no mans land for the Ramires goal last night, not to mention he should have done better last week at Stamford Bridge aswell.

Usually his mistakes are overlooked because Barca can outscore their opponents, like against Real Madrid at the Bernabaeu earlier this season where he had passed the ball to a Real Madrid player gifting them a goal within the first 23 seconds.

Barca however have not been at their best and have looked vulnerable at the back recently, it's at times like this when you need your keeper to put in a performance to save you, Valdes does the opposite

What can I say? Gutted. Phisically sick. They're still young but it might just be the end of an era, one which I adored and that will forever remain in my memory. The team's still young, but apart from the previous board's inspired promotion of Pep, the club has a history for having long bouts of depression. I hope they won't go on a spending and selling spree in the summer. And with Mourinho signing on for more years, wonder if Guardiola just hasn't had enough already. He looks exhausted since the World Club Cup.

As for Chelsea, well done, what a season. They might finish out of CL places in the EPL so this is a one chance. Villas-Boas must be clinically depressed right now.

Thing is though Villa-Boas was trying to build a new team, Di Matteo's just stuck to the older players, so while Villa-Boas was looking to build a team for long term success, Di Matteo's solution is only short term, and you have to wonder, if he does stay on how will the the older players react to him trying to build a new team eventually? Not very well i'd imagine and he will have the same problems AVB had and we'll have the media circus all over again.

If there's one positive from last night for Barca it's that Pep is pretty much guarenteed to stay now, i really cannot see him bowing out on such a low note, he'll want to come back next year and win it all to leave on a high note if anything.

There's no doubt that the better team in the tie overall went out but that's just how it is sometimes, if you ask me they need to get rid of Valdes and bring in a real world class keeper, the guy's too much of a liability.

Also i thought the Sport newspaper in Spain summed up the whole thing pretty well:

"Football punishes Barca with the most injust exit" - "It is difficult to explain how the club could throw away a match in which they were so infinitely better than their opponents. The Chelsea team at Camp Nou was like that of the first leg at Stamford Bridge, stingy, cowardly, miserable."

Didn't get to look at the replay but Pepe is known to commit fouls in the area constantly (even outside of the area).Something is wrong with him.Time and time again he has put Madrid in very difficult situations.

Looks like there was a handball by Pepe on that last free kick.

That's how I meant it. :P Still couldn't make out the foul on the penalty with the aerial view that was shown. But it was indeed handball by Pepe on the freekick before half time.

It wouldn't surprise me if both Mourinho and Guardiola leave at the end of the season.
