Got it for my fish. It doesn't look like that yet, since I ran out of money, but i'll get that way soon.

^ Looks similar to my parents tank.

Unfortunately their pond has suffered this winter. Somehow a fungus has got into it and wiped out all the fish. My dad's put a lot of hard work into that pond and three of his Koi were from his old pond over 10 years ago. They even survived moving house which meant putting them in buckets and driving them over 70 miles. One was shocked and we had to take it in turns pumping air into the bucket, survived though after an hours pumping.

That's terrible. So all his fish are gone?

All of them. The biggest one was the size of my forearm and hand together. Shame but now he can at least empty it and and a clean start.

I had tropical frogs at one point. I had crabs in my restaurant's tank but they don't live long. I'm sure it was because of them that my neons died. I like neons but they are way too fragile.

Bought a small Stirling Engine kit similar to this

Image

to hook up to a small electric generator (which I will make myself)

then I'll place my little device on the surface of a geothermal pool to see if I can perpetually generate my own clean electricity, and calculate how big a full-sized model needs to be to power my home if it works.

I thought you'd buy a brand new soap box.

Pretty sure the one you have is wearing out already.

^^ Probably needs to be massive otherwise they would be selling like hot cakes and every one would know what it is. How much do you think it will generate?

I don't know. Just experimenting for fun. At the moment, I'd be satisfied if I could light a small light bulb. The real trouble is finding an appropriate heat source. Of course, even body heat or a match can run a small Stirling, but then you need fuel to burn: namely, food or wood, respectively. It'll be awesome if a natural hot spring could light a bulb.

And, yes, this ridiculous weekend project is entirely because I was inspired by Jules Verne and Myst to build a self-sufficient island sanctuary.
