Here I sit after taken in this tense and long awaited boxing event last night of Money vs. Canelo. I won't be long winded right now, because I'm tired and speechless. The outcome was almost just as I predicted, albiet with judging issues, but I'm most disappointed with Canelo's output and strategy, which I'm sure is much to blame on his inept camp. Mayweather won by Majority decision 117-111, 116-112, and 114-114. They are currently investigating the drawed judge which is hilarious, yet appropriate.
I knew speed and stamina would be an issue, and Mayweather even looked at times in the middle of the fight as if he might have stopped Canelo while T-ing off on him against the ropes. He walked Canelo down as I feared, and took his best shots with ease as I feared. It all played out as I thought it might, but Canelo, I still maintain has tools that he doesn't quite know how to use yet. The issue is that as I stated, things get even harder for Mayweather as he continues on his quest. He seems to be more and more hopeful that he can retire undefeated. I've said long ago that his arrogance is a smoke screen. He will never call an opponent anything more than a strong competitor- that's his style. However, with a white-washing victory like that, angry fans will be even more demanding than ever for his next opponent. And if he wants to keep his money and legacy, he will have to chose someone to fight next, who the FANS all agree is legitimately dangerous. It's one thing to win, but with high PPV prices, people will be more reluctant than ever to pay to see a one sided beating again. He will have alot of pressure on him to probably move up to 160 and perhaps face Ward.
Everyone is looking at Danny Garcia as his immediate next opponent. The problem is that Danny isn't ready yet, just like Canelo, and he is even smaller. However, he did look very impressive in his win over Matthyse and actually stole the show. I just know that a fight with Floyd will be too big of a step too soon. I don't think anyone will tolerate or risk putting Mayweather in the ring right now again with any young star. It will have to be someone seasoned and dangerous. I personally think the winner of the Marquez vs. Bradley fight should fight him, but that' just me. We'll see.
