Nice topic...Any of those available to buy?

I just started Claymore (Berserk style manga; dark fantasy action adventure) and shall be starting Banana Fish (action packed old style manga about gangs and drugs) very soon.

The Japanese manga I listed above are all scanlated to read online. Korean Manhwa is different as it's released digitally from the start with no paper release. I know most people who read comics would prefer to actually hold it in their hands to read. Unfortunately with everything going digital these day and rampant piracy you'll never able to purchase them as books.

Yeah Claymore is a great fantasy themed manga as you said its dark fantasy Berserk. It does suffer from drawn out battles that last several issues, which is normal for most manga and anime. I'm only pointing this out because the manga is released on a monthly basis.

Try a manga called Gantz as I believe darkhorse comics has them available to buy. You have read Battle Royal? It's similar in that characters are forced into the situation to survive. In this case you have a random group of people brought together to kill alien like beings. Players of this game can either be on their own or team up to obtain their objective Each mission is about hunting down aliens that award points depending on difficulty. They are only given so much time to accomplish this goal, or they all risk getting their heads blown up. If a character accumulates a 100 points he or she has the option to leave the game or upgrade to a powerful weapon to continue on.

I haven't read a manga in forever. All I'd be able to recommend are pretty much classics by now; Blade of the Immortal, GTO, Lone Wolf and Cub, Love Hina. Stuff like that.

My recommendation to you. Vagabond.

Shinmen Takezo is destined to become the legendary sword-saint, Miyamoto Musashi--perhaps the most renowned samurai of all time. For now, Takezo is a cold-hearted kiler, who will take on anyone in mortal combat to make a name for himself. This is the journey of a wild young brute who strives to reach enlightenment by way of the sword--fighting on the edge of death.

^^I should have named that too, actually. Read quite a few of them. :D
The original book is better though. There are too many things in Vagabond where they change the original story in order to make it more action-centric.
For example, the head of the Yoshioka sword school was, in the book, kind of like a privileged rich kid. He's only the head of the school because of who his dad was, rather than because of his skill with the sword. So Musashi kicks his ass mercilessly when they finally fight. Whereas in the manga, Yoshioka is made out to be a badass and beats Musashi with practically no effort on their first meeting.
Vagabond is still great, particularly because of the artwork; that stuff is masterful in practically every way.
But I really do recommend the original book if anyone likes the manga.

My latest recommendation is a horror/comedy manga. I think a anime adaptation is in the works.

Blood Lad
http://www.mangareader.net/blood-lad

Staz is the vampire boss of a section of the demon world, but he has little interest in human blood. He's more infatuated with Japanese culture. When he learns that Yanagi Fuyumi, a Japanese teenage girl, accidentally wanders into the demon city, he jumps to the occasion. However, while Staz deals with an intruder on his turf, the oblivious Fuyumi is killed by a monster and becomes a wandering ghost. The disappointed Staz vows to her that he will find a way to bring Fuyumi back to life.

I second this, though I thought it was relatively well-known. One of the things I like about JBA is the tension in the fights. In some other mainstream titles, main characters are in no real danger as they would simply level-up or get a new attack in the face of conflict. Worst-case scenario, the character would be close to death before the leveling up happens. In JBA, main character or not, if you eff up, you die. For example,

In the third series arc Stardust Crusaders (probably the most iconic and popular of all the arcs), one of the main characters is killed midway through the story. Due to overwhelming fan demand, the mangaka made it so the character never truly died, but was merely put out of commission. Only for the character to be killed again towards the end of the story.

Even if you're resurrected from the dead, you're not safe.

^totally agree, nobody is safe in jba even the magnificent Joestars, another thing a like about it is the art style and character designs, they all have a feminine aspect which is cool in my opinion :)

3 more Korean Manhwa recommendations. Unlike Japanese Manga Korean manga is available free to read online. So I'm going to link to existing translated chapters. Enjoy!

I've been reading this book

Basically a compilation of different authors from Ax Magazine.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/AX-1-Collection ... 297&sr=1-1

I strongly recommend it to anyone who'd like to read something in a non-serialized manner, and a lot richer artistic perspectives, without the usual constraints of the genre.

Well, I would mostly recommend Berserk and Gantz because of their mature themes and amazing story and characters but for the sick sick people out there that enjoy all the Saw and Postal movies, I would recommend MPD Psycho. I just found out about this manga and I read about the first couple chapters and will just leave it at that because I do not want to read the rest of it.
However, one manga that I will probably get into since I have been getting into the show is Hunter X Hunter (1999 Version). It is a damn good show that I was looking for with so much adventure and great characters. It reminds me of the time when I first encountered One Piece, original Japanese version, not 4Kids Dub, and am glad that I found another adventure show that is done really well.
