News from Japan

Postby Master Kyodai » Sun May 13, 2012 11:01 am

My second day in Japan this trip but already so much to see. Been to Design Festa (Kinda hobby art and design convention) in Tokyo today. Was really impressed by the transparent fishes, frogs and other dead critters by Iori Tomita that were shown there. Of course i had to buy a small fish.

You have to watch his website to imagine how they look like...

Big disappointment - SEGA joypolis in Odaiba is closed until mid July!

You prolly all know e-cigarettes, these electronic cigarettes. Old in Japan. But now i have seen the first e-crackpipe. Of course its just like a normal e-cigarette working with the normal flavored filters, but the look is rather like a crack pipe. Bit weird...

Also today i saw like REALLY the smallest RC car ever, it was smaller than a matchbox, but a fully working RC car, even with lights. Dont have photo though but maybe imma buy one. Kawaii!

Tokyo Sky tree is finally finished! But not sure if I'll go to the observatorium on top, tickets are pretty expensive.

Sorry to hear about the SEGA park being closed for your visit.

I think this is more worthy than the junk forum.

No idea why its in junk. Odd. Either way, all fixed :D

Thanks for the update MK. With going to Oz i really want to try and get up to Japan, but i am far too afraid of the language barrier combinee with such a bizarre way of life that i dont know if i will.

For the eclipse we did have the glasses but unfortunately it was too cloudy in hakone so we couldn't see anything. Stayed in a Ryokan (Hotel) in Hakone that was like 380 years old and the interior of our room (appartment?) was totally looking like inside the hazuki residence. Also went to the smoking mountains in Hakone and ate some black eggs (Cooked in the sulfur springs). Gonna transfer the pictures like tomorrow or so. Oh yeah and typing this on my 11,000 yen dualcore laptop i got from Akihabara, yay for playing fallout 3 on a laptop? XD They now sell legal (how long???) artificial marihuana (labeled incense "Not for sale in the US") in akiba, i wonder how long it takes until it will be forbidden? We smoked some - pretty strong stuff. Actually much like real marihuana, i was surprised as normally japan is very strict with drugs.

Aw Kyodai, you're smoking synthetic? That shit made waves here and is mostly illegal now, my old college roommate figured out how to extract the JWH himself and made a small fortune selling it before it was legally available in stores. Don't like it for some reason, feels unnatural and it's too strong.

Can you or any of your travel companions speak japanese? I managed fine in Spain and Italy not knowing anything more than elementary Spanish, but would be nervous about an overseas trip to Japan or China without knowing the language, especially if I'm traveling solo.
