That doesn't make our accomplishments any less amazing.

True but we should not get ahead of ourselves. Get cocky and progress slows and you get sloppy.

"There came a time when our weapons grew faster than our wisdom,"-Kirk Private Little War Star Trek.

I believe this also applies to a lot of technology as well not used for war. People can get very lazy, sloppy, over confident very easy. Can't be too satisfied with what we have done and that is starting to happen. To me that is when progress suffers.

One person my see the flaws and some may see and practice it but many do not and most repeat history. Some learn from history most do not. A person is smart but people can be dumb panicky savage and arrogant.

I think the ability to understand logic is pretty amazing. We're not just sentient beings, we're rational beings. Is there anything that can distinguish one as being greater than rational -- in the comparison to simply conscious/sentient? Supposing that extra-terrestrial beings exist, I don't think they would be able to necessarily claim superiority. We would have different cultural/aesthetic tendencies, but if both races were rational, the laws of logic wouldn't allow authority -- at least not ethically.

^the interesting thing about intelligent beings is their capability to pretty much rationalise anything depending on the situation and what suits their ideals best. ethnic cleansing, genocide based on ideology, apartheid, given the right situation you can provide arguments that seem somewhat logical to support any opinion out there.
