Chi You Men symbol?

Postby Leon » Sun Jan 02, 2005 6:49 pm

What is the symbol of the Chi You Men, actually? Are there any theories regarding this?

Doesn't look like a dragon, is it the Chi You monster?? The symbol doesnt look entirely Chinese, to me it looks somewhat Japanese.

Sorry lol. Erm, I think it may just be that it symbolises Lan Di as the dragon, because he has the Dragon Mirror and because of his personality. Apart from that, I have no clue.

Looks like a warthog to me, and if you remember correctly that was one of the keys in Zhu's office in Shenmue II. Which means it's one of the 12 heavenly beasts (technically, it's a pig, but all the same). Other than that, I don't really have an explanation. Perhaps the meaning will be revealed in Shenmue III.

I believe it's "Chi You," the legendary monster. What else would they chose
as the symbol of the "Chi You Men?" :?

I've never really noticed that before. But it doesn't look like a dragon, so it must be Chi You.

I just found a Chinese online game titled "蚩尤再現 (Chi You Reappearance/Reproduction)."

And, there's an artist called "Chi You" who uses the Chi You image (?):

To me it looks like a demonic warrior (Chi You? "Monster" is too subjective, but then we don't exactly know the full extent of the Chi You legend). Notice how the head resembles a warrior's helmet, and the weapons behind it (two swords' blades and 3 spears).

Edit: Kiyuu beat me left and right. Nice. :D
Edit: Something odd about this post. I made it after Kiyuu's, but before her edit, and yet this one acts as if hers was made after mine.

^Yes, it's strange. It looks mine is the last post, the one by wS (right?) is not counted.

Anyway, I found a little image that is more similar to the symbol of the "Chi You Men."

That it does bare a close resemblance to Shenmue's Chi You Men symbol. Where does this image originate from? Or was it just found through an image search?
