First magazine to cover Shenmue & when did you hear about it

For me it was in an issue of GamesMaster! I remember just looking at the images and been blown away over the amount of detail in the game and the stuff you could do! At the time, there was nothing like it, so it really felt incredible and exciting.

It was April '98 on italian video game magazine called "Mega Console". No screens, only concept arts and a half-page-article with some info. After that I bought a Dreamcast at launch.

Funny how the first mention of Shenmue in ODM UK features Niao-Sun who is still yet to feature in a game.

First I heard about Shenmue was probably DC-UK. I occasionally read ODM but I preferred DC-UK's art style.

I bought my DC in August 2000 3 months before Shenmue's UK release.

I used to buy DC-UK and ODM. Good times! They were quite expensive here in Sweden but very nice magazines, both of them. I still bring them out from time to time for a trip down memory lane. Always great fun.

Same goes for Official PS2 Mag, PSM2 etc etc. I have hundreds of old gaming magazines piled up all over the apartment. I just can't stand the thought of getting rid of them, despite the fact I ran out of available space a long time ago. It's probably just my nostalgia running wild but I love having those old magazines around.

My first contact with Shenmue was in February 2000, that's when I bought Polish console magazine named Neo Plus with preview of Japanese version of Shenmue. I still have that magazine.

Cool that you kept the first magazine you read about Shenmue in, I didn't even buy the one I read! Still remember the supermarket I read it in, though...
