I'm working on an essay on Shenmue franchise and religion

The Shenmue franchise is rife with spirituality and religion.
One thing not too many Shenmue fans know is that Shenmue is actually based off of a genre - Shenmo.

It's a genre of Gods and Demons. It's a Chiense genre that traditional mixes spirituality, religion, martial arts, and ethical lessons into a beautiful package. My favorite book of all time, Journey to the West, is one such example, and the book is famous for its Buddhist allegory. I would make the argument that Shenmue is a Taoist allegory, and still blends the religion and martial arts of the genre's tradition.
Something to consider. I'll post the article whenever I get the chance.
