Once again over the past 12 month, SEGA talks about Shenmue.

Can we (seriously) consider Jurgen Post statement about old SEGA IPs and particularly Shenmue, a significative sign of SEGA interest to release Shenmue 1&2 remasters?

Keep calm Pete, keep calm.

So he mentions Shenmue specifically without any prompt out of their huge library of old IPs, says Shenmue is top of every list, they have some great IPs coming out next year, new versions of old games, and they will be announced at the end if the year......

PSX.

The language is almost a carbon copy of what Adam and Gio used when talking about building the list back in November 2013.

Jürgen

Well, we all know that Sega does know how much of a demand there is for Shenmue and they acknowledge it from time to time. They are also really good at raising false hopes. Many years ago they _promised_ something like 25 Dreamcast ports within 15 months or so. And only 4 ever made it...

I agree that it wouldn't be the first time SEGA raises false hopes, but as said by Peter, Mr Post mentioned specifically Shenmue without being asked about it. I think it's reasonable to consider this "a good" sign about HD remasters.
Also, it's not like the statement comes out of the blue, something Shenmue related IS expected from SEGA since Shenmue 3 announcement. If they miss or ignore this opportunity to relaunch the franchise, then we can consider the remasters... dead.

Anyway, hope is the last thing to die.

Well I guess I'm kinda biased on such a name, wich is very common here in Germany.
He is listed as Jürgen on some pages but I won't doubt the most official profile of him. I guess he is Dutch.

Notice that Jurgen is president of "SEGA Europe"! First Sega Europe were inviting questions to be answered on its YouTube show Sega Central. The question about Shenmue HD's ports were answered and now, they quote Shenmue and make promises for the end of this year....

I'm once again hyped!

We all know what we hope it means.

Here's what I hope it doesn't mean:

"We have different initiatives around the older Sega IPs. The Megadrive Collection is one of those, for the people who want to play retro games. But then we have games like Shenmue [3... *whispering* being made by another company, but still a Sega IP and getting lots of attention so I'll namecheck it here], which was pretty much at the top of every list of titles that people wanted to see revived. We have more though and we’re constantly looking at them."

Regarding the Shenmue remasters…honestly, it’s not a question of if, but when.

Sega would literally be retarded not to remaster them somewhere down the line.
(ie a digital / 1080p barebones port, at the very least).

The real question, is: will we get them before Shenmue III comes out? ...I suspect yes.

You DO realize that Sega IS literally mentally challenged right?

Financially, not mentally. I wish people would stop assuming they're dumb because they're not just shoving things people want out the door. SEGA came out of a horrible financial position a few years ago, and they did that by being super cautious with what they release. Remember the "focusing only on core titles" press release from way back?

They've been brave a few times since then (Valkyria Chronicles remaster/PC release/new sequel), but still have to hedge their bets when there's only a limited amount of money to go round; most of which has to be put into new titles like their PC releases, which are now SEGA's bread and butter.

Why do they take so long with re-releases? It says right in the interview they want to focus on quality instead of putting out straight no-frills ports. Shenmue's brand has already proved its worth, and don't think SEGA didn't see flashing dollar signs when the Kickstarter ended at a record breaking level.

Also, given that the Ask SEGA video we were all talking about a few months ago directly states they're seeing how they can make it happen, Shenmue HD is a question of when and not if.

Sounds good. I was also thinking "towards the end of the year - PSX". But please keep in mind what expert-on-everything Zoltor had to say about this matter:

Zoltor wrote:
Oh, we'll get a Shenmue HD, but it wont be from Sega, that's for damn sure, the fan project will continue after the Shenmue 3 release.

Sega doesn't change their minds, they're morons with principle, if they don't want to do something, that's it, and there's nothing you can do, to get them to do such.

The guy sounds pretty smart and like he knows what he's talking about, so... :l

Well it would make sense business wise for them to be announced and released during that period when promotion for shenmue 3 will most likely be at its strongest.
