Shenmue Dojo

When I was in Japan recently I got a legitimate copy of Shenmue for the first time on proper GDI discs, however my Dreamcast will not run it. I sort of expected this, I play most of my games including the original Shenmue on self-boot discs, but the Utopia boot disk isn't working, it shows the Shenmue disc but then just goes to black forever. I have played Japanese self-boot games (Zero Gunner 2) so I don't know what the problem is here...
