Is anyone else a stalker in SHenmue?

I find myself time and time again stalking the npcs such as Ichiro, Nayouki and Noriko. I just find the aspect of the way they do things at a certain time. For example, Nayouki and Ichiro reguarly have dinner at around 6-7 PM at Funny Bear Burgers. Yuji usually hangs out at Sakuragaoka Park. Does anyone else do this?

When Shenmue 1 was launched, Famitsu did an entire feature on how stalk a woman to see her pants with precise time, location and viewing angles notes.

NPC stalking is testament to both Shenmue's unparallelled degree of soulful world building and its shortcomings as a final product, i.e one of the only ways to experience the depth of the world and its lifelike non story characters (that they took the trouble to make like actual people instead of walking furniture like most other games) is to stalk them an observe their daily routines.

if Shenmue was made a few years later, they would have had the budget to put in a lot more polish and substance than there was.

Still, it's one of the best game settings in terms of 'feel', unmatched to this day by Yakuza and GTA.

Yes, upon release back in 1999, mainly to test the limits of NPC daily life routines. I was impressed.

Oh yes I have followed quite a few NPCs in the original game. From waking up till going to bed I would choose a character or two just to see how they interacted with others, not so much actually stalking them though. ^_^

It's been a while, but doesn't the time of the street lamps switching on make you lose the person? I would get upset when they would not let me in their home or even answer their door directly when I knocked. And I always wondered what happens or "would" happen, after Ryo's forced sleeping hours...

And as others have said and quite possibly one of the biggest reasons why I loved the game so much was, for it's time and even still now, it's deep immersion.
