With the recent swirlings around the mgs film potentially being back off the ground. I was thinking what Asian actors would you cast to play the roles of a real life adaptation of the first chapter? I think given the right cast etc that the first game would transition pretty decently to the big screen. I would personally expand Ryo's friendships more to get the audience to understand why they're friends and might start it the week before Iwao's death.

I can only see Michelle Yeoh as Ine-san, don't know many asian actors for a movie like this.

Sorry but if we're casting legends of Hong Kong cinema then the role has to go to a young Chow Yun Fat surely?

I don't know a lot of japanese actors, but I think the guy from the death note japanese movie can play Ryo.

First of all, I think it would be a mistake to cast all Japanese actors. This thing needs international appeal, and I can't think of any Japanese actors that can really draw a serious crowd.
With that in mind, my casting would go like this:

Ryo Hazuki - Fred Savage

For the main character, of course you need to cast the greatest actor who ever lived, Fred Savage. You could probably even recreate the carrots scene by splicing together old footage from The Wonder Years and having him dub over it. His voice is exactly the same as it was back then, so it all works out.

Iwao Hazuki - Danny Glover

Because you need a black guy.

Lan Di - Ninja from Die Antwoord

If we're gonna get Neil Blomkamp to direct this thing -- and let's face it, he's the only choice there can possibly be, what with all the robots that have to be added -- then you need to get an actor that literally only Neil Blomkamp thinks is worthwhile.

Guizhang - Kevin Hart

Because sometimes you need two black guys.

Ine-san - Amy Schumer

It always seemed to me like the developers wanted Ine-san to be like super funny, and she always had this smug attitude about herself like she thought she was hilarious.
But she wasn't. Like, not even a little bit.

Megumi - Leonardo DiCaprio

One of the most adventurous actors in Hollywood. I think he'd welcome the chance to really stretch his abilities by playing a little special needs Japanese girl. We could win this thing some goddamn Oscars.

Hmm, it would be quite tricky getting the casting right for this. The obvious choices to me right now are Keanu Reeves as Ryo, Zhang Ziyi as Xiuying and Michelle Yeoh as Ine-san. The rest are not so obvious so I would have to do further research for them. I'd like for it to happen one day. I mean, the locations in the games are already there since they're real so it would be great if done right. But please keep it far away from Hollywood, they would seriously butcher it.

Haha, no, nothing is obvious, please; you say to keep it away from Hollywood, but you use 2 Hollywood actors and one that has done a decent amount of films in Hollywood lol.

IMO, if we're using bigger names and not strictly Hollywod people, I'd probably go:

Ryo: Tatsuya Fujiwara
Iwao: Hitoshi Ozawa
Ine-San: Would really like a Japanese actress here, but indeed, Michelle Yeoh would be perfect. If she was younger, she'd be Xiuying.
Gui Zhang: Yeah, Yun-Fat Chow 20 years younger would be perfect. Makeup should be able to do wonders, so he's the guy.
Master Chen: No clue.
Chai: Yayan Ruhian (just cut his hair lol)

Great choices! I only chose Keanu Reeves because I would like to have it be English spoken. I grew up playing the English versions of the Shenmue games. I still highly prefer it over the Japanese one.
