In late 2013, the break-through many had been waiting for materialized at last: the appearance of a fan-made Undub for Shenmue 1.

where can I buy high quality repro's of the undub? also will that save work with a pal version of shenmue 2 to continue on?

An online search should turn up one or two, but the actual creators of the undub don't encourage their use:

Yes, since it's based on the pal shenmue.

(For the full shenmue undub experience, I would recommend playing the kogami version which has full audio. This version will be covered in part 2 of the article).

Part 2 is now up, and looks at how the Kogami version of the Undub was put together.
