this is pretty interesting, in the notebook information for Shenmue 1, there is an entry on here that you never see... "Master Chen gave me a letter of introduction for Tao Li Shao-san, a martial arts master who lives in hong kong." i find this neat, since you can never open your notebook again in shenmue 1 after master chen gives you the letter.

Does he give you the letter after the fight with Chai, then? I thought it was before. Because I know I've read that text, but I can't remember if it was in Shenmue I or Shenmue II that I read it. But pretty neat if you're right. I notice he doesn't include Chen's bit of bs about Tao Li Shao being an "elder" master. Elder my ass! She's 26!!

I don't think you can open your note book after the fight with Chai anyway though... As for the elder master bit, this is presumably relative to her training. While she is not very old, she is already a master in her martial art, neh?

Hey yeah! That notebook entry is actually shown in the Prima Guide, so the writers must have hacked the game too! :P

He gives you the letter after you beat chai. because when you are talking to gui zhang, mistuh chen says "Do not worry about my son, at the moment i do not know where Zhu Yuan Da is.. instead i'll introduce you to.. etc." then gives you the letter and you walk off. have the nozomi memory and bam, its over. i've still never got the elder part either.. but i assume they mean elder as in she is a elder as far as martial arts are concerned.

Just open up the file that contains the notebook info in a hex editor or a wordpad. it has it all written out.

Maybe there was a tiny playable bit on the boat in an early version...

Very interesting. IS there anyone around here who would know how to see if that info is included on the actual Shenmue 1 game disk (disk 3 that is)?
